  1. As a Packers fan, my hope would be that DC Joe Barry is not retained. Technically, it wouldn’t be a “firing” as his contract is up. I’m a bit worried that a couple of good defensive games the past two weeks gets him an extension.
  2. I don’t see a team giving up a 2 for Fields. He hasn’t been consistent enough, and he has only 1year remaining on his rookie contract. A team would be really rolling the dice IMO either trading a high Second for 1 year or giving an extension to an inconsistent unknown.
  3. Link to BleedCubbieBlue Al Yellon makes 5 BOLD predictions for 2024: 1. Adbert gets 40+ saves 2. Cubs ink Cody to 8 yr / $200 million 3. Justin Steele is NL Cy Young winner 4. Morel is adequate at 3rd and hits 40 HRS 5. Cubs win NL Central with 90+ wins What is least likely to happen? I'd go with Steele winning Cy Young.
  4. Yep, it's been a pretty Blue Christmas regarding free agency so far. Usually the beginning of free agency is The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Gonna just have to Believe something good will happen soon.
  5. Think this is a pretty good article ... ...regarding where the Cubs, and free agency as a whole, is right now. A few snippets: -1/3 of MLB teams have done nothing so far in free agency (to include the Yankees, Red, Sox, Jays, Mariners and Cubs) -only 3 of the Top 10 free agents are signed, and 16 of the Top 50; plenty of really good players to fill needs
  6. Jordan Love Redux Love and Rodgers after 14 games in their first season starting: Lifted from this site: Linky Love thru 14 games this year: 304-of-486 passing (62.6 percent), 3,368 yards, 25 touchdowns vs. 11 interceptions, 90.8 rating. Rodgers thru 14 games in 2008: 296-of-466 passing (63.5 percent), 3,470 yards, 23 touchdowns vs. 12 interceptions, 91.8 rating. I'm not suggesting he'll ever be anywhere close to AR as a player, but I think it was too early to "write him off" in the middle of his first season starting. And a lot of Packers and NFL fans did just that.
  7. Jordan Love in 2023 (so far) First 7 games this season 11 TDs, 8 Ints 135 comp / 234 Att - 58% completion 1492 yards passing QB rating over 100 - 2 times Packers record - 2 Wins, 5 Losses Last 7 games this season 14 TDs, 3 Ints 169 comp / 252 Att - 67% completion 1876 yards passing QB rating over 100 - 5 times Packers Record - 4 Wins, 3 Losses I think if we're looking to see if Jordan has shown improvement as the season wears on (and opponents' DCs see his tendencies and weaknesses), the results are pretty clear and convincing. And that's what I was hoping for - improvement.
  8. While it wasn't the same situation given the amount of time in both games, the Packers did this in week 2 against the Saints. They were down 17-3 in the 4th with 7 min left. They scored and went for 2 (converting). Made the score 17-11. They got the ball back after a defensive stop (easier than recovering an onside kick) and scored again to make it 18-17. And that ended up being the final score.
  9. Pretty remarkable. Will be interesting to see how he fairs with a game in Buffalo in December weather and a game in WDC in January.
  10. So Bellinger will be signing with the Dodgers tomorrow or Tuesday.
  11. If the mystery team sees its shadow, how many more days/weeks of this insanity will there be?
  12. What does that analysis of the play have anything to do with Love's "progress" ?? Andy Hermann is basically saying that, but for the CB making a great reaction, Doubs is actually pretty wide open. Love recognizes the coverage at the snap and puts the ball in an area where the WR can make a play.
  13. Maybe not quite the "lucky prayer" you're making it out to be. Pretty good analysis although certainly some degree of luck involved.
  14. Former head ref Terry McCauley said it best - first 59 minutes officiated well, last minute pretty poorly. -hit out of bounds on Mahomes was a joke, shouldn’t have been a 15 yarder. -fumble/down by contact was correct call, but why did the clock not start after the ejection of Pacheco. Clock was running and player was ruled down by contact. Clock should’ve started prior to snap. -MVS was pushed backwards a yard or two and then pushed out of bounds. Ref stopped the clock. Forward progress was stopped and clock should’ve continued. -MVS was absolutely fouled on the deep pass inside the 10. Should’ve been PI on GB. -the push in the end zone is PI but there’s 8-10 players in the area all going for the ball. That will almost never get called. How many refs are even near enough to see what 8-10 players are doing in real time? Tough play, but there is PI by the rule on just about every Hail Mary in the end zone.. Packers played well and Love is looking better and better as the season moves on. Hopefully a sign of things to come.
  15. O'Connell is safe in Minnesota as he seems to be a pretty good HC so far. But after that: Lions - the guy seems like a meathead; was awful to start his tenure but then the team played really well from the middle of last season until the middle of this season; they're trending in the wrong direction. Browns - Stefanski started 11-5 then 8-9. then 7-10. Probably safe but slipping in the latter part of the season shows another coach with a downward trend. Cardinals - Jonathan Gannon is in his first year of a 5-year deal and he inherited a trainwreck. But Bill Bidwell is the owner so anything is possible. Falcons - Arthur Smith has been anything but solid in his previous 2 years as HC with two 7-10 seasons. He has them hovering around the same mark. Their remaining six opponents are a combined 20 under .500 with the best record being the Colts at 6-5. Another losing season and he could be kaput. Packers - I don't see the Packers firing LaFleur after his first season with Love (and without AR), but after the loss to Detroit to end last season's playoff possibility, and then a potentially poor season this year, it could happen. Doubtful, but possible. So are the Bears like a black cat to the remaining teams on their schedule?
  16. Haven't watched Carolina this season, but Bryce Young has literally no decent WR/TE to throw to.
  17. Anyone think Hottovy and the Cubs pitch lab could help out Kolby Allard? Former Top 50 prospect and only 26. Was non-tendered.
  18. Sure. But which coast? You don't specify.
  19. I think a lot of sports fans (including many Packers fans) forget the experience level (or lack thereof) of his WR/TE group. They are ALL first and second year players. They’re learning the playbook, learning coverage looks, learning the speed of the game, and by the way, making plenty of mistakes in the process. I don’t think Love will have a career similar at all to Favre or AR. And it wouldn’t be fair to expect that. But I think it’s certainly reasonable to give him the entire season and compare the first 4-6 games to the last 4-6 games and then view the season as a whole.
  20. Who plays third base the other 80 or so games for all the times Madrigal will be out/on the IL?
  21. Until today, Michigan couldn’t have had a softer schedule. OSU has been tested, and is good on both sides of the ball.
  22. I moved to the Tucson area in 2019. So I adopted them as the “home team”. Basketball has been fun to watch as they’ve been fast, big, an athletic since Tommy Lloyd arrived from Gonzaga. Jed Fisch has really turned a horrible football program around in just three years.. So, , yeah, Packers and AZCats! 😎
  23. My adopted Arizona Wildcats go into Cameron a knock of #2 Duke. Let’s not crown too many programs this early in the season.
  24. Oh Brailyn Marquez, what could have been.
  25. How do you think Benetti felt having to listen to Stone all those years.
