  1. Just curious....I know in HS, the coach would give the "take" sign. Do they do it in the bigs???? I mean, you'd think the coaches AND players would know to work the count and get his pitch count up. Do the players really need to be told this???? And if so, who's to say they'll listen?
  2. DLee has 13 solo shots (of his 25 total).
  3. Ya' think the fish would trade him to a team they may be fighting for a WC? And what could the Cubs offer anyway?
  4. I know most of you wouldn't give Baker this much credit......but could he have a reason for batting CPatt first even though the guy is completely struggling each and every at bat? Could Dusty be forcing Jim Hendry's hand into making a trade for a "real" leadoff hitter? I mean, it's one thing to not be hitting. it's another to not even be making contact. It's almost sad to watch the guy be forced into the leadoff role. I know there are better options, like Walker or Cedeno or JHJ, but maybe, just maybe Baker is gonna push CPatt there until a trade is made.
  5. He's not had a history of pitching well against the Cubs, though. I think he's 1-4 lifetime. I know, I know.....wins aren't a great indicator. But 1-4 lifetime is not good.
  6. A few years ago, a big deal was made that Sammy's hands were to high in his batting stance. And he lowered them more toward his waist and was crushing the ball to all fields. I noticed lasy year and this year as well, his hands are back to being high, up near his chest. Not as high as when he was a young player, but higher thean in the glory days. Take a look. I wonder if that is slowing his bat speed. I also agree that he's not as agressive at the plate since the beaning. He can't reach the outside corner, and gets folled way too often on the off-speed pitch low and away.
  7. If the "Homerun Derby" for some reason just happened to be on at the same time as the NBA's "Slam Dunk Contest", I'd probably watch something on the Home and Garden Network. Both contests are old, boring and unfresh, regardless of the little twists they try to add to it. But if I were forced to watch one, it would [unfortunately] be the Slam Dunk Contest, simply because I wouldn't have to listen to that obnoxious Chris Berman guy. He really sucks, IMO, and he takes his suckiness up a notch for that contest. I mean, as another poster so eloquently stated: "What does hitting the ball over the fence when someone lobs it up there mean anyway?"
  8. Dubois only got 3 weeks as a starter. If every rookie who came to the big leagues was expected to get hot within 3 weeks teams would have rosters full of 50 year olds. If Dusty wanted to be consistent he could have given Dubois the same 5 weeks that Hollandsworth got to start. I don't see why a rookie gets less slack than a mediocre 10 year veteran. Also, who's to say Dubois will even get another chance? All Hollandsworth has to do is put up mediocre numbers to keep Jason on the bench and probably run him out of town. I'm not saying all things are equal. But it doesn't have to be equal. If the Cubs were a second-tier team, or if late August or September roll around and they're clearly out, I say you play Dubois to see what he can do. But the Cubs are right there in it. And you have to go with the hot bat. Call it lucky, a hunch, or anything else. But JD's bat was getting quiet and Baker decided to give Holly another shot. Holly responded. You've got to play Holly if he's hitting. I'd love to see the Cubs develope JD into an everyday player. But I'd rather see the team win first. And right now, they're better with TH in the lineup.
  9. The last 10 games, Burnitz and Holly have been hitting. So it males it less likely to sit one of them in place of Dubois. The outfielder not hitting is CP, and if he comes out, it isn't Dubois that'll get the ABs. The way I see, Holly started and struggles, so BD got his chance. BD did well at first, but started slumping. So Holly gets the chance back and has flourished so far. BD has to be ready for his next shot and capitalize. You gotta play the hot guys when you're in contention.
  10. The only way Sisco comes back to the Cubs is if we trade for him. Ain't happening, he's gonna stick!
