  1. He's walking a lot more recently, which is a very positive sign if ya ask me.
  2. I voted! Micah's currently in third. But, honestly, what objective observer would have thought he would come even close to hitting 20 this year? I'm so impressed by Micah's advances. I hope that its not merely a hot streak, but that it represents a giant leap forward for him as a player.
  3. Boo! Can you imagine the line if that had left the yard? 6 for 6 with a HR and a 2B. Guess we'll have to "settle" for 5 for 6.
  4. A double. Sounds like the singles are line drives though.
  5. So now it's vet vs. inexperienced? You were using the term "kid." Maybe you need to define that. I still say that Z's a kid. He's younger than most rookies!
  6. And the Cubs are 0-4 in games started by Maddux and Wood. But I can see the logic of calling out Guzman and Hill.....
  7. Big Z looks great this month. 3-0 with this offense is def impressive!
  8. how does zambrano count as a kid? I brought up the 5 kids cause I'm ticked that Cubs system continues to suck. He's 24. Def a kid. Your wrote that "the kids have taken the cubs down the toilet in may." Why didn't you start a post saying "maddux, pierre, and walker have taken the cubs down the toilet in may"? Surely, we should be relying on these three much more than Cedeno, Murton, and Marshall to pick up the slack of DLee, Wood, and Prior being gone. It shows your bias against the younger players to single out the play of Murton and Cedeno and blame the team's losing on them.
  9. The only people hitting in May on the entire Cubs team is Jones, Barrett, and to some extent, Ramirez. The rest have not hit. I'm not sure why you choose to point out Cedeno and Murton. You wrote "the kids have taken the cubs down the toilent in may." It is simply not fair to blame the team losing on Murton and Cedeno, when there's many other players who could take as much more blame. And Zambrano counts as a kid, right? He's 3-0 in May with a 1.50 ERA. and a 1.65 b.a. against.
  10. The kids have?? Let's look at the vets OPS: Walker .577 Pierre .530 Perez .506 Hairston .531 Mabry .499 Blanco .050 Maddux in May: 0-3, 22.2 IP, 32 hits, .356ba against, and a 7.48 ERA But I can see why you're singleing out the kids!
  11. Pie is 4 for 4 now. His most recent hit came with Fontenot on 2nd. Fontenot was thrown out at the plate trying to score, however. Felix must have hit it too hard! Ryu must have decent stuff today. He's getting a lot of ground balls. He has 9 groung ball outs to only 2 fly ball outs. He also had 4 k's so far.
  12. I've heard this one too, but it doesn't pass the smell test- The trainer claims it happened during an exhibition game in Arizona (and I think we all know about the integrity of the SF training staff). He claims that AJP took a ball to the nuts. When he went out to see if he was OK, AJP kneed him in the nuts. At home plate, in front of thousands of people. Yet the story went unreported until the day Pierzynski signed with the White Sox (10 months later). One writer claimed it happened when all the beat writers weren't looking, therefore it went unreported. Of course, thousands of witnesses saw and said nothing either. And no member of either team mentioned it to any writers when it happened. Right. And no, I don't want to marry him. I just don't want to see the game woosified to the point where players who play hard are ripped on for it. And that's exactly where we are headed with this. The pitchers in SF had all kinds of problems with AJP. Apparently he wouldn't go over opposing batters with them. There were all sorts of comments about him not being a good teammate, etc..
  13. What do you need a leadoff hitter for? We got one and where are we? I am so sick of this line of thought. If the Cubs had Jim Edmonds in Center, how many more runs would the Cubs score? Get the best player you can get at each position and then make the lineup. Trading for Pierre has the whole thing backward. Murton and Walker are probably the best choices to lead off from the curent roster. Please don't give Pierre an extension, and Pie bats 7th where Patterson should have always been. Exactly. BRAVO. What he said..
  14. Moore made the "In the Team Photo" section on this week's BA Prospect Hot Sheet.
  15. Has anyone seen Grant Johnson pitch? How hard is he throwing? I ask because his numbers haven't been very impressive this year. I wonder if he's working on a particular pitch...or if they're preventing him from throwing a certain pitch...in which case, his peripherals would be less bothersome. Going just by numbers, it's been disappointing so far.
  16. Micah has 13 home runs now! Send Bynum down and call Hoffpauir up?!
  17. As of May 22, here are the Cubs players in the minors are the leaderboard of their leagues. Of course, with their promotions Hoffpauir and Montanez will be dropping off shortly. With enough at bats, Reed should made the leaderboard soon in the Midwest League. EPatt just missed the top 10 in several categories. 18. Moore with his 9th home run today. His average is above .300 now as well.
  19. I actually like our chances with the White Sox bullpen. While it was a strength for the Sox last year, this year as a whole it hasn't been very good.
  20. A Jones HR off of a lefty? Or maybe you mean against the bullpen...
  21. Geesh....think he could give up fewer home runs already?! I mean, come on!
  22. On the subject on hand, I've been very impressed with Cedeno so far. It's clear that defensively he is a major league caliber shortstop. On the offensive side of things, I like his swing. He doesn't slap at the ball, like Pierre. He tends to make decent contact. And he can hit the ball the other way as easily as he can pull it. I'd say, in spite of his recent slump of sorts, that Cedeno should be manning the Cubs ss for several years. Yould make the case that he has been the biggest bright spot on the team this year.
  23. Very interesting post about Shaver, Craig. Thanks.
