  1. I just don't understand how Hendry can continue to ignore OBP. What about OBP doesn't he get? It isn't a difficult concept.
  2. YES! Izturis has a career 295 OBP and 69 OPS+. I'm feeling quite sick right now. Yes here too. Izturis doesn't help this year, next year, or any other year. I don't see the point of trading for him. I see Cedeno's ceiling as higher, and he might take playing time away from Ronnie.
  3. Arroyo is having a much better year than Glavine right now. I'd take Glavine off, as his ERA is in the high 3's. At this point, I think Webb deserves it, with Z not far behind. Watch out for Carpenter and Pedro. In the AL, the top 3 are probably Halliday, Santana, and Liriano so far. What a 1-2 combo for the Twins.
  4. Corey and Lieber. And Mitre! I loved Sergio.
  5. How bout Jones and Williamson to the Yanks for Phil Hughes? http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/26/sports/baseball/26hughes.html
  6. i remember that all they gave up was polanco and bud smith ](*,) Why must you cause me pain? Mike Timlin was also in that deal too as I recall. Still a steal, but the Phillies let Timlin go. Phillies wanted Jon Lieber from us....who of course they eventually ended up getting through free agency....while we did NOT get Rolen. Rolen was easily worth Lieber.
  7. dude the gay jokes aren't funny.
  8. FOX and FULD are the killer F's for Daytona! It kind of sounds like poker strategy: "Fox or Fuld"
  9. I like our lefty better than their lefty! Go Sean!
  10. Marshall's going to make this a four game winning streak tonight!!!!!!
  11. one good start by marmol and marshall's 4.43 era remind you of prior's near cy young season and wood's 14 win, 3.19 era and amazing pitching down the stretch leading the cubs to the postseason? that's some imagination you got there. While I agree it's a stretch. He's just basically excited to see some pretty decent young guys step up and possibly be our pitchers next year. Don't put a downer on that please!! You have to remember also that marshalls ERA is inflated by that one inning where he gave up like 6 or 7 runs. He's had a handful of only giving up 1-3 runs per game. 4 of his 12 starts he's been pretty bad(4 ER/4.1 IP, 4 ER/5 IP, 9 ER/3.2 IP, 7 ER/3.1 IP), so it's not like one or two outings are really skewing his numbers. The two outings where he gave up 4 runs were the first two starts of his career and his pitch counts were likely limited (65 and 79 pitches). I wouldn't call those "pretty bad" since the Cubs won both of those games. Since then he has had two bad starts out of the remaining 10. He's also had 7 quality starts. Exactly. Minus those two starts, his ERA is in the mid two's for the other 10 starts, with about 40 hits allowed in 60 innings pitched. VERY VERY impressive indeed. (and that still includes his first two starts) If Marshall can eliminate the blowups (again, which have been 2 of 12 starts...or 1 in 6), he should be well above average.
  12. Going into 2005, Negron was rated as having the best of the following tools in the Blue Jays system: Best Athlete Fastest Baserunner Best Defensive Outfielder Best Outfield Arm
  13. Thanks for posting the article. I love how "ticked" Wells got for simply walking one batter! That is sooooooo rare in the Cubs system. Here's hoping he keeps up his success and control. I'd like to see him up in Triple A actually. Reputation has him more as a "competitor" and a control guy, rather than a stuff guy (like Marmol). As I understand it, people don't miss mistakes as much in Triple A as they do in AA. Calling him up to Iowa might give the Cubs more insight about whether he could handle the big leagues. After all, he's certainly proved himself in AA.
  14. I wish that Jake Fox had been promoted with him.
  15. I like our coaches in Double A!
  16. Congrats to Sean! He's that much closer to the Bigs. He's joining a great rotation: Wells, Shaver, and Mateo are all pitching lights out. Vasquez, among others, is strong in the bullpen. In fact, the team ERA is in the mid-2's. And of course we've seen the success of Marshall and Marmol have had directly up from AA. This reflects well on the pitching coach in West Tenn. with whom Sean will be working.
  17. So what the heck is Wells' potential? He is having a VERY impressive season, while being still relatively new to pitching and age appropriate.
  18. Don't forget Marmol. I think he has an outside shot at the rotation next year as well. I also think there's a possibility Wood is back (at a lower rate).
  19. I have to disagree. He still hasn't had many starts on the Cubs. Take Corey for instance. He had several YEARS to try to turn it around (though i still prob wouldn't have traded him). Hill has not even had a half of season's worth of starts for the Cubs in the majors. People are expecting WAY too much too quickly. Hill has NOT worn out his welcome. He should get another chance on the Cubs. Patience all.
  20. Glad to see him hitting. No can someone please teach him to throw?
  21. How could Fuld not be chosen? He was completely robbed.
  22. Gallagher, Fuld, Montanez, and Jackson continue their success..... And 5 k's for Vasquez in 2 innings (now in double A)
  23. You are putting stock in 12 lousy at bats? To be fair, they were a REALLY bad 12 at bats. He struck out in 5 of them. But if that sample size is too small, add his 84 at bats with the Priates last year, in which he hit .214, whiffing 24 times. I'm not confident that Nevin will hit, but I have much less faith in Restovich.
