  1. I think that Marmol could be an excellent starting pitcher. If Hill gets traded for Bedard, why not consider Carlos the 4th starter?
  2. Glad that no CURRENT Cubs players were named. =D> Go Cubbies in 07!
  3. You're talking about a man who has devoted most of his professional life to public service. He chose to go to Ireland to broker a peace deal, rather than accept a lifetime apptment to the U.S. Supreme Court, b/c of his call for service. I wouldn't be so quick to judge Mitchell as out for publicity.
  4. Really happy that Wood is not on it. =D>
  5. Or how about not trading for him at all. I think DeRosa is perfectly cabable of handling second base. See, in my world they flip a coin and one of them plays shortstop. Can't be that much worse than Riot and the offense would make up for however much it is. Plus you'd hopefully have a better defender on the roster for late inning lead holds. I hear what you're sayin', but I don't want any ROIDS/HGH users on my team. If they've been a cheater, don't trade for them. And if Wood is really on the list, I'd trade him. Marmol can close instead.

  7. Thank you. Let's go with the confirmed list.
  8. I'm still hoping that Wood's not on it....waiting to see the confirmed, published list. I am happy that no other current Cubs are on it. If Roberts is on the final list, I don't think we should trade for him.
  9. I don't think we have the confirmed list yet....
  10. Has it been confirmed yet that Wood is on the list?
  11. They may also be thinking of Fuld as a backup plan to Pie.....Fuld could be a stopgap for Colvin in their eyes. I think Pie's gonna step it up this year though.
  12. I'd rather sign Rowand than Hunter, and probably Jones too considering how much he'll cost. Here's hoping we get Fukudome though.
  13. maybe ward should start in right and soto and ward should hit 3rd and 4th :?
  14. Will it be this? Pitchers (11) Zambrano Lilly Hill Dempster Howry Marmol Wood Wuertz Eyre Marshall (or Marquis)...the longman, just in case Hart (or Ohman)...Marshall can be the second lefty in place of Ohman Infield (6) Lee Ramirez Theriot DeRosa Fontenot Cedeno Outfield (6) Soriano Jones Floyd Murton Ward (If he can't go, then Monroe gets the nod) Pie Catcher (2) Soto Kendall
  15. Marshall should have been starting today.
  16. Nope, it's the 25-man roster, not the 40-man. The only way another player can be added from your own system is if a player is on the DL and will miss the playoff series (and, of course, the player has to be in your system when that roster is set on Aug. 31). I don't think you're right....or if you are, then ms muskrats article was wrong on cubs.com (which wouldn't surprise me). You have the link? It's definitely 25-man + DLed players. Couldn't find the link, but I found this one: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view.bg?articleid=1018841 Sounds like the rule changed this year.
  17. Just to clarify....this is my understanding: Yes, Soto is eligible for the post season roster. If you were on the 40 man by september 1, you can be on the post season roster. It doesn't matter if you were in the bigs or in the minors. It only matters that you were on the cubs 40 man roster. So a team CANNOT get a player from another team just before the postseason and add him to the playoff roster. that's what the rule is designed to protect against. should the cubs make the postseason (and i believe they will), and should soto continue to hit down the stretch (and i think he will), then you will likely see soto in the postseason.
  18. Are we writing off Guzman and Prior completely? I think Dempster is ready for a move back to the rotation also. I would MUCH rather try Marmol in the starting rotation than Dempster. Dempster was never an effective starter, where as he is a quite decent reliever. I'm fine with him at closer. I love Guzman and Prior, but I can't count on either of them for the rotation. If one or both of them remains healthy and performs how they are capable, then they too deserve a shot in the rotation.
  19. I'm of the opinion that a good starter is more valuable than a good reliever. And another dominant arm in the rotation would do wonders. I don't know whether Marmol could be a good starter or not...but I don't see why not. What does he throw besides FB and Slider? (Those are good enough that I'm not sure he'd need to throw a 3rd pitch all that often.) How would this be? Zambrano Hill Marmol Lilly Marshall / Gallagher / Samardzija
  20. Anyone want to try Marmol as a starter again next year?
  21. you're going to judge him on one night? every pitcher has a bad night. does webb suck because the padres scored 5 off of him last night? he must not be the diamondback's best pitcher by your logic. Zambrano hasn't been the best pitcher on the Cubs this season. Hill and Lilly have been better. who do you start game 1 in the playoffs (assuming they're all equally rested)? don't know about you...but i start big Z. Honestly, I wouldn't. I think he would be too jacked up for game 1 and be all over the place. Although, he might be jacked up any game of a playoff series that he starts. Kinda like 2003 when we gave him a 3-0 lead in game 1 of the NLCS and he preceded to give up 3 HRs in a span of 4 batters when he only gave up 9 HR all year. i was at that game in atlanta. he was what...21 yrs old then? not sure its still relevant to today.
