  1. Power and speed might score more than just power, or it might not. Speed doesn't guarantee more scoring. OBP guarantees more scoring. That is where the Cubs have been lacking. And you don't have to have great speed to get great OBP, but it's still nice to have. I'm saying that even if the power lineup scores more runs, and I concede that they probably will, the team with speed will still win more games. I think there are a couple of testable hypotheses here. Going back, I think the first hypothesis is that a speed team will score runs more consistently than a power team. We can compare the standard deviation of runs scored / game to test this hypothesis. The second hypothesis is independent of the speed issue, asserting that the a team with more consistent run production will win more games than a team with more variance in the distribution of runs scored. The second hypothesis is easy to test, the first requires a proxy for team speed.
  2. Or Slap Nasty
  3. Has anyone confirmed that on the record as opposed to unattributed leaks? If I recall correctly, wasn't it the Grand Jury testimony that got Conte sentenced to prison? Or was it the congressional testimony? It was one of the two. It would be trial jury testimony that is required to sentence someone to prison, not grand jury testimony. I'm not aware of Bonds testifying under oath in open court, and I believe the grand jury testimony is still sealed. Have I missed something?
  4. Has anyone confirmed that on the record as opposed to unattributed leaks?
  5. Defensively Craig might be the worst catcher (initially), but I doubt he would be the worst offensively. Maybe he'll play 3rd and 1st in games while getting work at catcher during practices.
  6. I predict by the end of the year we will be looking at Murton, Lee, and Ramirez as solid big boppers. . 25 homers for Murton is not out of the question, IMO. He's on pace for 162 HR and 486 RBI. 8) But after the book gets out on him he'll more likely end up with 161 IBB's.
  7. As I recall Pierre's initial leadoff AB gave the Cubs an OPS of 4.000. The team couldn't keep it up.
  8. Well, 3 catchers + Matt Craig learning the position should make them well covered behinfd the plate. Good to see Jemel on a roster.
  9. I'm pretty sure it's a season high. But without the breaking news on Rollins...
  10. Fred probably was there to see it. A pax on your house, young man !!! Peace to you, too O:)
  11. From time to time you'll work during a dull game, but that's about it. That's why we use screen names.
  12. An accurate projection would be 1 HR an inning for 162 games. Welcome to cooperstown career home run leader with 1458. Naw, it's one HR per game and 9 IBB's.
  13. I hope our professional ballplayers have a better attitude.
  14. I'm gonna try and stay optimistic about Jones.. Maybe they'll give him enough days off against lefties that his numbers will be solid. Hey, Jones has a 1.250 OPS against Harang (in 4 AB's)
  15. How about a call-up if performance dictates it? nt Duly noted, but why are injuries required for a call-up? Why not "[fill-in-the-blank] isn't getting the job done and Aardsma is lights out in AAA", even if [fill-in-the -blank] isn't injured?
  16. How about a call-up if performance dictates it?
  17. If by power rankings he means the current strength of the team, and not necessarily a projection of where teams will end the season, it makes a little more sense. Currently, Prior and Wood are on the DL and our CF and SS are coming off disappointing springs.
  18. How about one healthy season between Prior and Wood?
  19. Wojo's job should be to think about what he says.
  20. I wish I knew even half the stuff that is well known.
  21. Just tuned in- I didn't know Chris Young was pitching. How did he look? (Besides really big)
  22. I'm pretty sure at least one of the folks was Barrett, also a former shortstop.
