  1. I agree that nothing you said could be considered ignorant or bigoted. I'm sorry to hear about your neice's condition, but glad to find she has found an outlet in baseball.
  2. The Daytona paper had an article about Adam Greenberg on Sunday. Not much new, but just another reminder about the fleeting nature of this game.
  3. Haven't you ever heard of "The Natural"?
  4. Maybe Hebdry will try to get some guys who can "catch the ball" this off-season.
  5. Well he hasn't done much to increase his trade value.
  6. Maddux agrees with you - I'm not sure about Franco.
  7. It's final - DCubs win 5-4. Norton's looking good - 0.93 ERA!
  8. Harvey's got 2 HR's through the 7th. Fuld also has 2 RBI's as Daytona leads 5-4 in the middle of the 7th.
  9. me = jinx :( I had just tuned in - it could have been me.
  10. Veal gave up his first ER in the 6th. :x
  11. OK, just looking at the A+ Florida State League, 3 of the top 4 OPS leaders are from Daytona. Fox is the leader, already been promoted to AA where he's not exactly lighting it up. Fuld is number 3, but currently on the DL. Craig is number 4, wondering what he's doing in A+. But still, if 3 of the top 4 OPS guys in the league are not considered prospects, what does that say about the rest of the league?
  12. OK, when I go to the site there are 2 versions, one indicating NODIF, one indicating PEAK. Which is translated, how do you compare, what is most predictive? Are there any stats that are theoretically comparable among the different leagues?
  13. What if the Brewers have the same unwritten rule and the Cubs have to overpay for whoever we get from Milwaukee?
  14. You left out the fourth, and most important group, and that's the team. They have to accept responsibility for their own performance and demand effort from their teammates. This isn't meant to defend Dusty, but a new manager won't have success if the team doesn't change.
  15. Does the mean ARam has the option of walking the bases instead of running?
  16. Any sabremetric types have any clue what these mean?
  17. Steve Buchele's claim to fame is that he was roommates with John Elway at Stanford. :) Steve Buchele's claim to fame is that he paid special attention to my daughter when she was honorary ball girl at a Rangers game. He's her alltime favorite player.
  18. I think the coaching staff reading this would react about the same way I would if I saw a posting on Monster.com for my current job. And that may be the reason for it, so he can get an indication of interest from potential replacements.
  19. Don't trade them unless we get a really, really, really good offer. These are 2 guys I want on my team in 2007. And to the White Sox and Cardinals, they should be 100% off-limits. Please give us one good, legitimate reason that makes sense to anyone beyond puberty. Cardinals - Division team. I don't want them mowing us down 20 times a year for the next 2 years White Sox - You tell them they are in the Cubs plans for 2007 (which they should be) and the fact that they're the guys that can get the White Sox over the top is what makes it 100% off-limits OK, so if we've decided to trade Maddux, and we have 2 offers - one from St. Louis (or the White Sox) that all of the coaches, scouts and NSBB gurus feel is a better offer than the other one from, say, the Red Sox, we trade with the Red Sox. Am I understanding this correctly?
  20. If only we had some guy that could show them the benefit of not walking people. We could call that guy a pitching coach. Then maybe we could have another guy that could teach our hitters to not swing at bad pitches and take some those walks the other pitcher is offering. We could call that guy a hitting coach. (I thought about calling that guy a walking coach but Dusty would never stand for that.) ROFL Very good, walking coach :D It would be funnier if it weren't sadly accurate.
  21. You do if there are competing offers - and it's hard for me to believe the Cubs are the only potential home for ARod.
  22. Well, I waited 3 months to check the HR Derby results, and now I think I understand why. Awfully thoughtful of HawkCub to save me from total embarassment.
  23. All those bus trips must be hell on backs.
