  1. Here's a link, but it's subscription only: Link Here's the quote for the suits: Maximizing and protecting the value of corporate assets is something they can understand.
  2. Too little, way too late
  3. If he keeps up the 1.000 OBP no complaints here.
  4. Well that's just dumb. We all know that Hendry is already trying to work out a five year extension for Izturis that comes with a complete NTC. And don't forget the player opt out after 2 years in case he miraculously turns into ARod.
  5. Can we put both Neifi and Izturis on waivers now in the hope we can work a waiver trade? We've got 30 days for a contender to have an injury that needs a Gold Glove middle infielder - and if Neifi's claimed on waivers, wave bye-bye.
  6. Now there's at least one member who might take that as a compliment, but I think most of those who differ with jmajew are pretty much red-blooded capitalists (not that communists don't have red blood too). As such, we have an aversion to over-spending for under-production. capitalism is actually much more inefficient than communism. if you lived in a commune, your basic living expenses for one year would be around $10,000. Yeah, but my production would be worth about $3,995. :)

  8. Can you link us to some of the current scouting reports that indicate Izturis looks much much much better than his current stats indicate? I won't speak for everyone, but I know I would love to hear some reassurance that we've got a diamond in the rough instead of a pig in a poke.
  9. Getting nothing back would literally have been better. Thats a joke. I rather get something, rather than nothing for him. OK, imagine you trade in your car (any car) for a 1995 Chevy Cavalier and take over payments on a loan with a $10,000 remaining balance. Oh and kick in $2,000 cash while you're at it. At least you got something, right?
  10. Are you saying that his contribution will be greater for another team or that someone will make an offer based on an inaccurate projection of his contribution? Because if he truly wants to pitch one more year he'll have to take what the market offers.
  11. Bad idea for the team - great idea for the player. If he has a bad 2006 he still gets his money for 2007-2008. If he has a good 2006 he can opt out and have a chance at even more and longer money. From the player's perspective it's a great idea. Also, it's a negotiating point. The Cubs didn't just throw it in because they didn't understand how it works. Without the opt-out clause he would have cost more in guaranteed money.
  12. Only when LA is in town.
  13. Never tried to say he was great, or even good, but given the dearth of pitching talent available these days he still has value. There are 14 out of 45 qualifying AL pitchers with worse OPSA including Jon Garland, Mark Buehrle, and ""All Star"" Mark Redman.
  14. Hooray! 2 places away from last!
  15. In what bizzaro universe was John Koronka a top-tier prospect? Maybe not a top-tier prospect, but the #3 starting pitcher on a .500 team appears to be more productive than anything the Cubs have gotten from Bynum. I don't think anyone in the Rangers organization is complaining about this deal.
  16. While Ramirez isn't a FA, he does have the opt out clause. Yeah I know, but any team trading for him could theoretically work out something to get a guarantee from Ramirez that he would waive that option. At least the option of it not being only a 2 month rental is greater with Ramirez than it is with Lee and Soriano. No, actually it's worse because if Lee or Soriano tear up a knee or something in September you aren't obligated for future years. Ramirez's option is his option - he exercises it if he thinks he can do better, the team is still obligated if he doesn't.
  17. Daytona has a double-header of sorts today Link
  18. You mean someone in a management position used leaks to inflate the value of a player they want to trade? I thought you were supposed to beat up on the players so the fans won't be upset when he's gone. Those Nats must not have a clue.
  19. That explains the 5000+ posts on this board.
  20. I think the point was that Walker's stats in 2004 and 2005 were artificially inflated by keeping him on the bench against tough lefties. Put another way, do you think Walker's OPS+ in those years would have been just as high if he played every day?
  21. done! No, he had 3 errors tonight, I expect the Yankees to DFA him tomorrow. Wait til tomorrow, we can get him for nothing I'm sure.
