  1. wow. the collettis are dropping cash like it aint no thang today. maybe they'll try to get good soon, too.
  2. hendry gets desperate and trades too much for Westbrook, Jennings, or Penny. i'd rather have either of those three over meche/lilly Depends on what we give up. I'd rather give up money for Lilly than players for Westbrook or Jennings. I like Penny a lot, but I think he is going to demand too much in return. We don't really match up with the Dodgers either. They don't need OF help, which is what we can provide with Jones. the money hendry is about to spend on lilly is just as pricey as a prospect/whatever package for penny when talent is taken account of.
  3. The praying for Prior and Miller to be healthy by April will begin. that hasn't already started?

  5. Well, I guess the Cubs will be good in 2007. 2007 Cubs: great team or greatest team of all time?
  6. Angel Guzman? :) Yeah, but Guzman doesn't have his experience. Seriously, from the look of those highlights I wonder why the guy only won 11 last year. He really has great stuff from the llok of them. His win total is insignificant. It's the rest of his totals that make him not good. You do realize he's not good, don't you? Here's proof in case you need it: http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/mechegi01.shtml Similar Pitchers through Age 27 Compare Stats Jason Marquis (972) Hank Johnson (968) Jason Jennings (959) Chris Carpenter (959) Jason Schmidt (958) Matt Clement (956) Shawn Estes (955) Willard Nixon (955) Johnny Marcum (955) Todd Stottlemyre (954) look familiar? hendry seems to be enamored with clement types.
  7. All I'm saying is, some players, who really love where they play and want to stick around, are willing to act on more than just financial interest. Latest example of this would probably be Chris Carpenter. Drew's always moving from team to team for a guy with top-flight skills. Maybe it means nothing, maybe it does. carpenter? dude just got what equates to 50 mil over 3 years. I thought the deal was 5/65. There were a few people on the radio earlier saying he gave the Cards a home-town discount. In this market, $13mil/yr for a Cy Young is probably fairly cheap. That's why I singled Carpenter out. well they already had him under control over the next two years for salaries of 8 and 9.5 respectively iirc.

  9. Lugo? Did I miss something? Per rotoworld: ESPN's Steve Phillips says he's hearing free agent Julio Lugo will join the Red Sox. WFAN reported earlier Tuesday that Lugo had a four-year, $36 million contract from the Mets. The Red Sox weren't believed to want to go that high, but if they felt thet couldn't land a shortstop in a Manny Ramirez deal, they might have believed they didn't have much of a choice. Dec. 5 - 6:21 steve phillips should have been named sweet phillips. he is awesome!
  10. The Giants are going young. Young? How about a younger version of old? Durham and Aurilia are not spring chickens. there is no way that wasn't sarcastic.
  11. worst deal yet this offseason... but hendry isn't quite done :D
  12. Based on that report #2? ha! if the cubs go into the season with ted freaking lilly as their number two starter they aren't winning anything. :x
  13. I doubt Schmidt will get an offer in the 60-70 million range. How much do you want to bet? i'd like to take that too.
  14. so i'm confused. is lily on the team or is this speculation? it doesn't seem to be being reported anywhere i look.
  15. not the best, not the worst = average cubs signing. actually for some reason this reminds me of when we got matt clement, which wouldn't be so bad.
  16. And Bruce wins again. :) Think about it: when have you ever seen "Bruce Miles" and "Jim Hendry" together? They're one in the same, and involved in some weird plot to make money from us somehow. I'm on to you... other than the whole 'bruce miles' understanding obp and metrics and whatnot.
  17. if the red sox could get gonzalez and peavy for ramirez straight up it would be a coup.
  18. if this team stays healthy, there is no reason why it shouldnt be way over .500 as it stands right now? way? there is very little starting pitching on the team as of 11/28/06
  19. probably plenty... they only spent $7-8M today, I think. yeah, their offense is pretty settled now. maybe a bench player or something, but other than loose parts they have payroll to drop it seems.
  20. Kaplan also said that the "Floyd deal would be done by Monday", also....So go figure. one of those two has a problem figuring out payroll too, for what that's worth.
  21. do any of the cardinal fans here know what kind of money they have to spend after todays signings?
