  1. if the actual guaranteed contract is 5/90 with 6,7,8 some sort of options it will be okay, if not this will be a chan ho park/mike hampton thing down the road. as far as the actual player goes, you know, i really want to see the cubs win. and while soriano might not be vlad or beltran or arod he is still a quality player and makes the lineup that much better. if the cubs still get lugo then two GOOD pitchers(ted lilly/gil meche/jason marquis are not included) the cubs will be the easy favorites in at least the central heading into 2007, which, really, is all you can ask for out of a front office. and if if if if prior can be healthy and 2003-ish for at least the last half of the season, a championships might not be that far fetched. it's obvious hendry has the money and wants to win now. he will lose his job in under four years, so the end of this contract doesn't matter to him. i just really really really hope we win in the next few years.
  2. Gonzalez isn't an above average defender. spare me your frar crap and all those bush league stats that i dont care to look up. Gonzalez is a winner. Who cares about his ISOD i care about his HEART. But is he VERSATILE? clutch?
  3. after not clicking into the thread because of the title and almost exiting it because i had no idea what was going on $10, $12 million over two years for garland is probably a much better bet than what the cubs will end up giving to meche or lilly.
  4. from the 2006 baseball prospectus on neal cotts meh. i'd rather keep eyre.
  5. very very doubtful. please platoon!
  6. i'd rather have a solid starting lineup than a solid bench, though i'm sure you'd agree with that also.
  7. are there actual rumors out about this or is it our wishful thinking? just wishful thinking on may part. sorry, i didnt want to start a rumor just give my opinion. well it would be nice.
  8. rotoworld said: wow. he's really that close to neifi against righties. this is not looking so hot. unless he is out to platoon with jones.
  9. are there actual rumors out about this or is it our wishful thinking?
  10. you know, i don't believe it but, it would be interesting to have derosa as a platoon guy with jones in right. he did bat .342 against leftys last year.
  11. for texas in 2006 he had a fielding percentage of .993 with a zone rating of .917 at second base for what it's worth(though he played more games at third and right)
  12. that was my thoughts too. theroit isn't proven, but derosa doesn't really seem to be either, though if he can do what he did last year offensively it would be great(mind you that was in texas). AVG .296 | HR 13 | RBI 74 | OBP .357 | SLG .456 not bad. but walker probably would have done about the same.
  13. No financial details? nope, all that was said was three years. i am checking around and don't see it anywhere else but it was on the update i promise you.
  14. if this is posted somewhere else i didn't see it, so please delete it. on the last update it was said that hendry is nearly finished with a deal to have derosa become the cubs secondbaseman for the next three years. thoughts?
  15. some metrics actually have murton as an above average fielder.
  16. well who is a number two in that staff? none of those pitchers are too much of a proven commodity.
  17. i would like to predict that starting pitching will be the problem with this club come opening day. i am very very afraid that the rotation will end up looking like: Zambrano Miller Hill Lilly Padilla basically a number one and four number fours. matsuzaka is gone, from all accounts i've read both zito and schmidt are wanting to stay on the west coast(zito in san diego and schmidt in seattle), leaving hendry very little room to end up with at least a solid number two(no pun intended). dempster and jones for hudson is a possibility, and while i admit i'm not so sure about contract dollars, it's tough to imagine atlanta taking on any salary(though i guess the cubs could pay some extra if need be). i know hendry can do better than lilly and padilla, specifically with wade miller still being a question mark. and while the offense is in need of upgrading certainly, this is a pitching staff that has had little in the way of consistency outside of zambrano(who, by the way has still been used A LOT over the last couple years). who else is out there to acquire via trade?
  18. holy carp. burrell for benitez? what could we get for dempster if that's true? DEMPSTER + JONES FOR BURRELL PLEASE. would you rather do demp+jones for hudson or burrell? also, from cubs.com(Muskat): i know i know, it's Muskat. but the interesting thing is that soriano was not mentioned at all in any of the questions, she just threw the blurb in there. what inside info may she have? probably none, but there seems to have been a lot people saying that hendry is going to aggressively persue alfonso.
  19. from rotoworld: holy carp. burrell for benitez? what could we get for dempster if that's true?
  20. it bothers me so much but schmidt is going to seattle.
  21. Hmm. Would he throw a hissy fit about playing CF like he did over playing LF? I think his performance with the bat was a direct result of not having to carry his errors to the plate. Stay in the OF, Soriano. I didn't hear him complain about the move after the initial growing pains. Anyone heard whether or not he wants to go back to 2B? The 2B market is fairly flooded this offseason. I think he makes more money remaining in the OF. that last part isn't necessarily true if soriano is vastly outproducing other secondbasemen on the market. if you put alex rodriguez on the market alongside a bunch of joe randas that's not going to make rodriguez any less valuable. Soriano isn't a defensive liability in LF. He is at 2B. Does his bat make up for it? Of course, but it detracts from his value as a player. Compared to the other LF FA, Soriano is a plus defensively and offensively. Compared to other 2B, Soriano is a big plus offensively and a big negative defensively. Soriano still has a lot of value as a 2B, but not even close to as much as a LF or even a CF. No one wanted to trade for Soriano this past offseason to be a 2B. That should tell you something. how is soriano any less of a defensive liabilty in left than at second? did you watch him play at all this year? his offensive output is much greater in comparision to secondbasemen versus that of other left fielders.

  23. Hmm. Would he throw a hissy fit about playing CF like he did over playing LF? maybe we put him at second and still get drew for center? :D Or put Soriano in Center, Drew in Right, and Trade jacque! for tejada?
