  1. Doesn't SC have something like 30 recruits "verballed" to them? What's going to happen tomorrow if they all somehow qualify academically? We actually have 32 (counting Ryan Broadhead, a grayshirt from last season). We can take 27 this year because of drop/outs nonqualifiers from before. Thus, we will oversign by 5. We will probably have 2 non-qualifiers, one we know for sure. The other three will grayshirt.
  2. South Carolina's class is ridiculous. If Spurrier can come close to the talent at Florida, Tennessee and Georgia, look out. We all know he can coach. More importantly, this class really met the needs of our team. I really wouldn't trade it for any other class in the country.
  3. I think it was more of a speculation that they'd be interested in Lovie than a report that they are interested. I think the Bears will extend Angelo and Smith this week. But if they end up trading Lovie for picks I wouldn't cry (or did the NFL stop that following the Gruden situation?). The talent on the field is more important than the head coach. And Angelo is responsible for the talent. I would think Angelo would have a VERY tough sell PR-wise if the Bears win the Super Bowl and he doesn't want to give Lovie his payday. I would love to see the Cowboys go after Cowher and have to give the Steelers a big compensation package. I was hoping Miami would try that as well.
  4. I completely agree on all points. The man's a .500 coach since he left the Giants. No more, no less. plus he has man boobs Doesn't your coach sport a pretty mean pair? ;)
  5. Wow. Sucks for Russ Grimm. This was a false report, I guess. Pretty much everyone is denying it now. Interesting goings on. ESPN is reporting it's a done deal. But I just heard Adam Schefter on NFL Network say that noone with the Steelers or Vikings are confirming anything. He thinks the Steelers may have chosen Tomlin, but are waiting until Monday to make it official. EDIT: ESPN says sources have told them the deal is done, according to the link. They also say there is no confirmation from the Steelers or Vikes. My opinion is they're waiting until after the playoff games Sunday so as not to steal the playoff thunder and also have somewhat of a spotlight for their announcement. This hire reminds me so much of Bill Cowher, its scary. I think they made a great hire and I'm very excited. I liked Wiz, but I think this is a great choice. Its going to be fun to see how it goes.
  6. Grimm interviewed with the Bears when they ended up picking Lovie. Grimm may have been offered the job, but balked when he was told he wouldn't have total autonomy to pick his staff. Now that Wiz is out of the picture, I hope they hire Grimm.
  7. They'd be morons to sign him and bump Jason Botts. JB is ready to produce and Sammy is well, an overly sensitive, ego maniacal senior citizen with no good baseball left in him.
  8. I think Sidney Rice will be better than Samardzija too. I don't think there is any "will be" to it. I think he's already better. I think the receivers are ordered this way in terms of talent... 1. Johnson 2. Jarrett 3. (tie) Rice 3. (tie) Meachem 5. Samardzija 6. Ginn (the spaces are intentional)
  9. Our rivals site is reporting that Sam Dyson is out for the year for South Carolina. Very unfortunate news for a team hoping to make a run at the title.
  10. Very nice assessment, raw. I personally hope the Steelers will go with Wiz. It appears it will definitely be him or Grimm. The vets and the management both wanted to stay in house. However, they're both white and the Rooney Rule being, well, the Rooney Rule, they brought in Ron Rivera and Mike Tomlin for interviews. I think it'll be Wiz by next week.

That also has to do with the fact that the SEC eats its young.

For everyone"s enjoyment next season, could we have ND play an SEC schedule? Pretty please. Then maybe the ND hype machine can end. Many of the ND realists around here called this whoopin since the bowl games were announced. Sidenote: Williams just scored for LSU 48-14. Maybe the reason Notre Dame is 0-9 in their last nine bowl games is because they are going to bowls they do not deserve to be in. I am furious that ESPN and the ridiculous ND fans have made me hate a team I used to love, but that is just how it has to be.
  14. Granted that was a homer comment. I really don't have an expansive knowledge base required to make such a statement. I'll just say that Justin Smoak is NASTY.
  15. Jad Dean is a total headcase. He is easily thrown off his game. I am sure he is crying on the sidelines.
  16. I am still pissed about that game. Damn you, Brad Smith! Hopefully that won't happen again this year. Go [expletive]!
  17. Why is that? He'll be 22 this season, hardly an unprecedented age to start in the big leagues. He's stopped at every minor league level. And he's got 426 pro innings under his belt. That's almost as many as Rich Hill. I really don't know much about the guy, but on the surface, it doesn't seem that you need to be high to think he could be MLB ready this season. Have you seen him pitch? He's not ready. He's barely spent any time in AAA and he didn't exactly dominate. He's not blowing anyone away with his stuff and doesn't have good command of a third pitch yet. He needs another full season at AAA. Full season? Nah, he just needs to show more consistancy with his curve - his change and FBs are fine. That won't take a year. I completely disagree about his fastball. He's still not locating well as evidenced by the home run totals and he's not overpowering anyone. But I still think he can be a decent major leaguer if he's not rushed.
  18. I really think this is our year. We were extremely lucky only losing Jason Place to the draft. We got arms that we needed and our lineup just got a year older and more experienced. I am not sure there is a position player in college baseball for whom I would trade Justin Smoak.

  20. Not to redirect the thread back to its original purpose, but anyone who thinks that Danks will be big league ready is HIGH. Masset may be ready, but is probably better off starting out at AAA and moving up in late May.
  21. I think they are overstocking because one of the vets might wash out.
  22. You're just jealous that you don't get to play Florida State in a bowl game. Actually, a Spurrier/Bowden matchup would have been fun. I was just messing around about these bowl games. My team plays Houston, so I don't have a lot to talk about.
  23. If a tree falls in the forest...
  24. I too picked Texas. USC probably did have a better all around team, but I just love Vince Young. He doesn't necessarily put up great passing stats (though last year he was #3 in passer rating in the NCAA), but he wins. His Rose Bowl game was one of the best performances I've ever seen from an athlete in that big of a situation. That's why I really liked him this year in the NFL draft. Look at this year even - that team was awful last year, and even though his passer rating is pretty lousy, they've won 5 of the 9 games he started. I think he'll make several Pro Bowls before his career is through. I really dont care of follow pro football enough to make any judgements on his pro career. He does seem to have that I am going to win this game at all costs level that he can achieve. Similar to guys like Micheal Jordan or John Elway. John Elway? He was in the playoffs like 8 times and lost 3 super bowls before winning two of them. Jordan, can't disagree there. Some guys just have that "it". Vince Young single handedly beat Ohio State, Oklahoma State and USC. He took over those games in a way that only the transcendent athletes of our generation have done. I don't know how that will translate to the pros, but I sure as hell enjoyed watching him in college.
  25. 1. I didnt know those 2 teams play against each other freqeuntly. Well its a good opportunity for PSU to prove themselves other than the 4 tough losses to top 12 teams. 2. There seems to be a lot of people in and even outside of B10 that thinks this game is going to be a OSU route. I am a big SEC homer and I think Ohio State is by far the best team in the country. I think they would win by 10+ over anyone in the country. Yes, I am aware that the Michigan game was a 3 point game, but I just don't see them getting any closer, rather I see it getting worse the next time (should there have been one).
