  1. Word going around is Mike Maddux would take the job this time around with Greg coming with him.
  2. Villanueva is a Top 100 guy but in a position of depth for the Rangers (3B). With Olt nearly ready and Joey Gallo murdering the ball in Arizona (not to mention Beltre signed for another 4 years), the Rangers have 3B covered. I think worth it for a team that really needs SP help if another World Series run is to happen. Everybody wins.
  3. I think he'll certainly be in the mix and they are paying him a lot of money. We'll see. My guess is that it will be a platoon, though it may be a Martin/Gentry platoon instead of Borbon.
  4. The Darvish contract details... 2012 -- $5.5 million 2013 -- $9.5 million 2014 -- $10 million 2015 -- $10 million 2016 -- $10 million 2017 -- $11 million There are also roster bonuses for $800,000 per year for each year he is not on the disabled list for more than 30 days. If he's on the disabled list for more than 30 days, the bonus is "reduced by $5,228.75 per day starting on Day 31."
  5. If any front office can get this done, I believe JD and co. can. A three year deal (or a deal structured to resemble one makes sense. Josh Hamilton comes off the books after this year and Michael Young after '13. Given that Hamilton's decline is likely right around the corner and Young's age, this could be a great idea for the Rangers. We'll see. But the following lineup is pretty sick... Kinsler, Young, Hamilton, Beltre, Prince, Napoli, Cruz, Gentry/Borbon, Andrus is pretty sick.
  6. Word in DFW is that Prince wants to join the Rangers and that the Rangers can still make it work even after Yu. They will have to get creative, though.
  7. They said that about the Rangers after they lost Cliff Lee.
  8. Well, then you're weird. We're pants optional 9 months out of the year down here.
  9. That was my first question. I really didn't care for Riggins. How about Mike Maddux? :D The leading candidate (and perhaps only) candidate to replace Mike Maddux was BP coach Andy Hawkins. He's highly thought of among the Rangers front office.
  10. Exactly. Speaking of dumps, with all that new money he can afford to move them out of that dump of a state Texas and up to a nice luxury suburb in north of Chicago. Theo has obviously never been to Southlake.
  11. Per Jon Heyman's Twitter... SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman Cubs will do a second round in managerial derby. So far its between maddux sveum alomar and mackanin
  12. Sounds like a mentality of removing the reliance on pitch counts as well. There is a difference between being cognizant of pitch counts and being ruled by them.
  13. Its all about conditioning the arm and the body to be stronger and more durable. The Rangers do not abuse their pitchers at all and the statistics bear that out.
  14. We are really going to miss him here in TX.
  15. Maybe the other teams didn't report it yet. Why would he pull his name just from the Red Sox? Or maybe Boston is a bad fit for him and he decided not to waste his time or theirs. It is well known that his daughters go to college in the DFW area and that he just built a house. He has a good thing going so I am sure there will be, as there always is, some family consideration. But if he decided he didn't want to manage, he would have pulled the plug entirely, which he hasn't done. How would he know it's a bad fit without a interview? Why would Chicago be better for his family? I don't have any personal knowledge about the situation, but he's been in baseball a long time so it wouldn't be crazy to think that he could make up his mind that a place wasn't good for him without interviewing.

  17. Also from Peter Gammons... pgammo Peter Gammons Mike Maddux hasn't been to Chicago, Boston wasn't good family fit, not yet sure he can give more time away from family. Stay tuned pgammo Peter Gammons "We're in a good situation," Maddux says of his Ranger job. "My family moved here, the kids will be in school for 3 more years here."
  18. Per Jon Heyman at SI...its Cubs or bust for Maddux. SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman mike maddux has withdrawn from consideration for red sox managers job. my impression is he may be favored for #cubs job
  19. Can't find the link but the last report from Texas was Maddux was interviewing with Boston Tuesday and Chicago Wednesday (though I may have those flip-flopped).
  20. Texas has placed a great emphasis on both physical conditioning, nutrition and better mechanics to improve the pitching. It is hot as hell in Texas during the summer and pitchers complained about it frequently. Ryan/Maddux/Hawkins put an emphasis on turning that into a home field advantage vs. a weakness.
  21. From ESPN Dallas writer Richard Durrett on Mike Maddux and the Cubs complete with stats. http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/texas-rangers/post/_/id/4875815/is-mike-maddux-a-candidate-for-cubs-job
  22. He also quit on his team in the middle of a season and really only had a 14.5 year career. Would you want Zambrano managing the Cubs? Comparing Z and Ryno is quite comical. That's true. Z came back to the team almost immediately while Ryno actually followed through on screwing everybody over. And here we all thought Cindy did the screwing in that house.
  23. He also quit on his team in the middle of a season and really only had a 14.5 year career. Would you want Zambrano managing the Cubs? I sort of glossed over that. Pretty clear his resume doesn't stand up against the other two, or to Dave Martinez who I forgot to add since those are the three names bandied about at the moment.
  24. Mike Maddux 9 years as big league pitching coach 2 years as minor league pitching coach 15 years as big league pitcher. Dale Sveum 5 years coaching in various MLB positions with Brewers including 12 games as manager 2 years as MLB 3B coach 3 years as minor league manager 14 years as big league player Ryne Sandberg 5 years as minor league manager 16 year big league player (HoF)
