  1. Will today be that magical day that our catcher gets his 1st hit as a Cub....nah I doubt it
  2. Pssst, the Cardinals suck
  3. I think it's coming pretty close to time you can remove the question mark from doable for 90 wins. I disagree. The Cubs will go into a lull that keeps them from reaching it. Right now they're riding a prolonged hot streak that is keeping their stripes from being seen. They have a weak ass schedule the rest of the year, I dont see that big of a dropoff coming. Are they going to play .800 ball the rest of the way? Probably not, but .600-.650 would'nt surprise me with who they have left to play. They've had a weak schedule all season long. They had a pretty tough schedule in May-June Texas and the White Sox were the only teams below .500 in June they played. Colorado was right at .500 when they played them just because certain teams were at 500 at the time it doesnt mean they were good. it wasnt as easy as the rest of the season but it wasnt hard either. projecting the cubs to play 600 ball out is stupid. We will have to agree to disagree on what they can/will do the rest of the season. Septembers schedule is especially weak, and considering they will be fighting for a playoff spot, where every team they play in Sept will be playing kids, I dont see why .600 or above is so far fetched.
  4. Cedeno has been pushed faster than almost any prospect the Cubs have had in recent years. He was in AA at the ripe age of 21 and AAA and the majors at 22-23. His "bunch of time"(600 ab's or so, basically 1 full ML season) was under a jackass of a manager who applauded free swinging, and not walking. It would be really foolish to form a definite opinion on Cedeno based on 600 ab's in the ML's at the age of 23. Cedeno wasn't just a "light-hitting" SS, though. He was a "light-hitting" SS, with great potential defensively and the projectability to hit 15 HRs a season. He was very raw and young for his league every year in the minors. I think his potential started to show in AA. He credited a lot to Sosa helping him when he was in Tennessee on a rehab assignment. 2nd half of the year in AA he was very good and that carried to AAA the next year. So, it wasn't a case of him just hitting journeymen AAA pitchers. He was solid in AA at 21. Exactly. EJ said Cedeno was a "light hitting SS until a couple years ago"...A couple years ago puts Cedeno at age 20 or 21, pretty hard to classify a kid that young playing above his age appropriate level.

  7. I think it's coming pretty close to time you can remove the question mark from doable for 90 wins. I think you're right. Two weeks after every ball stops bouncing the cubs way is when you remove the question mark. Most teams that go on a month long hot streak follow it up with a week or two of blech, the Mets did, the Brewers did, the Braves did, the Red Sox did. After that week or two you get the real picture of the teams W/L record. The Brewers had their "bleh" stretch because they were on the road alot(and they suck on the road) and were actually playing teams worth a damn. They are 36-17 against teams under .500 and 15-23 against teams above .500. The Cubs are only 3 games under against teams above .500 and are 30-22 against teams under .500. So seeing how the Cubs have a very weak schedule the rest of the year, its certainly possible the Cubs have seen their "bleh" part of the season. note: These records are as of the 17th of July

  9. Sooo any guesses on our new catchers 1st hit as a Cub? Im calling Tues vs the Cards, just because everybody gets hits off the Cards.
  10. So maybe we should start a pool on Jason Kendalls 1st hit as a Cub? Im calling next Tues vs the Cards
  11. wanting to put your 753rd homerun in your trophy case makes you a jerk? maybe other things, but that seems reasonable. No, it was the way he said "I thought they threw the balls back here. They lied." That's what came off as kind of jerk-ish. Wanting the ball doesn't make him a jerk. Wow, Bonds really cant say anything without being made into a jerk. It was pretty obvious he said that jokingly, and in noway meant anything by it.
  12. Anybody else here Matt Morris's comments regarding the whole Bonds situation? He was basically questioning the Giants commitment to winning, and said he amongst others on the team want it to all hurry up and end. This is from the San Fran Chronicle
  13. The Cubs have now won 11 straight starts vs right handed pitching
  14. Fixed. If you can live with Floyd in RF then you can live with Murton in RF
  15. Yup that contract sure looks like a disaster right now huh? 1 start 5 ip wow...After all my Card fans friends have given me crap about Wood and Prior though, I sure as hell dont feel sorry for the Cards, and keep tryin to tell myself not to laugh, but its hard. You can't really laugh at a guy getting hurt. What people laughed as us for was the remarkable silly injuries, swearing every spring "they're gonna be healthy THIS year!" and then being dicked around by our coaches or doctors about the health of those pitchers. I don't think people laughed at the actual guys getting hurt (except for a few Sox fans), but the manner in which those injuries were dealt with and recieved by us. Including myself. Laughing at a guys injury makes you a pretty foolish person, and you also put yourself on Karma's bad side. Good luck with that! No, I know plenty of Cards fans(amongst others) who repeatedly sent me texts laughing about Wood and Prior being hurt. And Id say Im not laughing at Carpenters injury, just laughing moreso at their fans, cause like you said karma is a bitch.
  16. This morning on ESPN 1000, Silvy said that Wood has lost something like 48 pounds??? I wonder if that could have anything to do with his heart condition and needing to carry less weight to make it easier on his body? That's just a complete guess though. One of the articles linked in this thread says hes lost 48 lbs. What heart condition are you talking about?
  17. If that happens, Im guessing Jose Oquendo is the new Cardinals manager.
  18. The Cardnals are now closer to last place than they are 2nd place...they are done
  19. I could go along with Floyd at 1st, but how bout calling Pie back up in center, and Jones in right since we dont see any leftys for awhile? Pie as been hotter than Cedeno of late, and offers a little more pop out of the bat.
  20. I wouldn't mind it, but again that's a rather large loss in power considering Floyd's a gimp, Rammy needs rest, and Lee is in suspension. We now need a power bat, ladies & gents. We've needed one for awhile, before this injury happend. Floyd isnt hitting for power, Jones isnt hitting for power , Therio Fontenot and Kendall dont have much power, so that leaves Soriano and ARam and neither of them are really setting the world on fire in the HR department. It would be a big boost if Lees "power surge" continues the entire 2nd half.
  21. Giving up a potential starting 2nd baseman, for a decent reliever would be stupid. Relievers are a dime a dozen, but possible above average 2nd baseman are not as easy to find.
  22. I thought I heard Lou said they think its a pulled calf muscle, but I was half asleep/half awake at the time.

  24. Wood hit 95 on the gun today. Here is a really good article discussing Wood. He has lost 48 lbs overall  http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19859205/
  25. Yup and with Carp gone for awhile now with TJS, who knows how soon it will be fixed. They sure didnt get alot out of that contract lol
