The difference between ARod at $16-20m and ARod at $30m (not sure where you're getting $35-40m from) is $10-14m. Or, if you prefer, Jared Wright or Carl Pavano. That amount of payroll is nothing for your team. If you let ARod go, you're weakening your offense, so you're creating another hole to fill. I'm assuming he means that the contract would be back-loaded so while the average would be $30M a year, the last few years would be more than that. Not only the backloading, but everyone is missing one thing. BorA$$ wanted 350 million to bring A-Rod to the table and BEGIN negotiations! Plus lets say the Yankees give him 35 a year, stright thru the contract. The Yanks are over the tax threshold! That means you add 40-50% tax to that. So It is like paying him 49-52.5 per year! Big difference! The fact is A-Rod will be missed, but he did not want to be here, AND THE YANKEES NEED TO LOWER PAYROLL! I really dont believe thats true. I think its the Yankees trying to make Arod look like a bad guy.
