  1. There's the project WR. I'm not used to the Bears consistently doing the things that I want them to do.
  2. I wouldn't mind getting a linebacker at some point. And project WRs who can sit for a season and try to break into relevance in 2024. And honestly why not draft a longshot depth QB if you don't have one any given year?
  3. I feel like the roster is starting to look a lot deeper than it has in a long time. Not at every single position (DL is pretty dogwater, not enamored with LB after the first two) but in most spots. I think that's a good thing
  4. So since the offseason started, we've picked up new starts at WR, OG, LB, LB, DE, RB, OT, and at least one DT at a minimum. That's 36% of your 22 in a single offseason. Poles has had plenty of time to put his stamp on this team now. There's no reason for the 2023 season to not reflect on his player evaluation abilities, no passes for tanking or whatever.
  5. We also addressed WR with our no. 1 pick.
  6. I won't pretend to be enough of a scout to have strong opinions on guys in the 2nd and 3rd rounds or whatever. I just really like the approach of making a ton of picks. Two picks in a part of the draft that has a 50% hit rate will always be a better bet than one, even if you really truly love the one. If it turns out they suck at drafting, then it doesn't really matter, sure. Brisker was good, Gordon flashed at best, VJJ sucked, and everyone else was handed jobs by the tank so it's hard to say. I'm intrigued by the idea of prioritizing pass coverage over pass rush. That would at least be an attempt to be at the front of the curve instead of chasing it. Apparently Dexter is excellent at everything once he gets going, but he has an ungodly slow first step.
  7. what else would you throw at a problem?
  8. Using a second-rounder two years in a row on a CB is either an admission that you screwed up the first one or a signal that you find the position to be incredibly important.
  9. Yesterday not taking a DT was drafting for need. Today taking a DT is drafting for need "Drafting for need" has become the derogatory version of "BPA". It doesn't seem to mean anything
  10. Wouldn't be my first choice, but I won't riot if we do. We made 11 draft choices last season, and had four UDFAs get at least 10 games. All those guys are still here, and now we are set to make 10 draft choices. They aren't going to be short on fresh bodies.
  11. You're right but I'm not sorry for loving it. I would be surprised if we didn't throw DL a bone though today
  12. I would be ok with drafting a center today to challenge whitehair, but yeah. J think the bears offense has a chance to be very, very good
  13. Isn't that just asking if you think Fields is a bust? I dunno. There's a large, vocal majority of Bears fans who seem to think there's zero chance of that.
  14. I remember the first time that call was broadcast on the baseball America website via RealAudio player
  15. So much angst over a guy who couldn't finish his pro day because he was too out of shape.
  16. Remember when the Panthers wanted to give us DJ Moore and we insisted it had to be another first round pick.
  17. Anything's possible in the NFL, but at this point I think it's more likely neither of our 2023 firsts are top 10 than both are
  18. Ok, let's follow the chiefs blue print then. All-world offense and a middle of the pack defense with an all-world DT we got in the 2nd round. We can get one tomorrow
  19. Words are wind. I'm pretty happy with the braintrust that has, as per the other post I just made, steadfastly refused to make any commitment to DT and let it become the worst position on the roster (voided contract to one guy notwithstanding)
  20. Put it this way. The Bears have now gone two free agency periods without giving a DT more than $6m/year on a non-voided contract, and have made 12 draft picks without taking one. It's easily the worst position on the roster. They may end up being wrong and foolish, but I think their priorities are coming into focus.
  21. I mean I won't complain if we draft a 3rd RB, or a project guy at WR to set the stage for if Mooney and claypool leave, or a depth QB
  22. Defense is the least important side of the ball Edge and CB are undoubtedly more important than DT, and in modern NFL offenses coverage LBs are starting to be too. DT can be tied with safety
  23. I'd like to see a center with one of our next three picks. Maybe a late-round depth lineman. Otherwise the offense looks pretty complete, use the rest on defense if you want
