    Pace - routinely turned multiple first-round picks into a single guy, roster always short Poles: turns his first first-rounder into a pro bowl WR, an allegedly ready to start RT, another first, two seconds and a fourth. It won't work work if he sucks at drafting, but he's doing an excellent job of piling up value while also fielding a very non-tanky team in his second season. If Fields is 80% of what everyone keeps insisting he is, this is a playoff team next season. And if he's not, the next guy comes into a way better situation than Fields did.

    Even if Carter flashes, he's still going to be a guy at a non-critical position who takes plays off. Good luck to him, don't care, never wanted him. The failure point for this pick is if Wright sucks and the tackles taken immediately after him or that CB don't

    But DT is a need too. That's not passing on value for need. That's disagreeing on value. Heck, DT is a bigger need than RT was. Borom is better than whoever we have there I'm not even sure at this point.

    There were five trade-downs in the first 9 picks and we made two of them. Eventually you run out of market to trade down into. I couldn't possibly be happier with how this offseason has gone. I guess maybe if we'd replaced Braxton Jones, but a good opportunity to get a LT never really materialized. Otherwise, this is exactly how I've always said I wanted them to behave. They picked up two upgraded starters on the OL and a star WR1 (in addition to the WR2/3 we picked up mid-season). And we did it while also adding a crap-ton of future draft capital. Fields is in about as good of an environment as you could possibly ask for in his make-or-break season, absolutely zero more excuses. And if he fails, that's bad, but at least we're already setting up the next guy to succeed.

    I'm pretty happy. We turned the first round pick into a pro-bowl WR, a first-round tackle, and four additional picks. Fields is 100% out of excuses. Hes been given everything he could possibly want.

    I really, really like Poles' approach to team-building. Ignore the hype, focus on value. Exact opposite of Pace.

    If they can't find a partner so be it, but I would love a trade-down here. I think it's the right move if you can find it.

    Turns out bad teams drafting at the bottom of the draft tend to make bad decisions because that's how they got there.

    I'm fine with whatever. If they followed what I believe to be best draft practices, they probably end up with one of the defensive studs or maaaaybe an OL. If they focus on need, it has to be OL. But Bijan or JSN would be the most fun.

    His whole schitck is that he's supposed to have off-the-charts agility and technique, such that he can get open in quick bursts, but he lacks the top-end speed to pull away from people on longer routes.

    It's probably true, but Hub Arkush likes to stir stuff up. By my count, between players under contract, the front office and the coaching staff, the Chicago Bears have about 150 employees who are directly football-related. Even if 98% of them love Fields and 2% doubt, the statement "some inside the Bears are unsure if Fields is the guy" would technically be true.

    I can almost talk myself into it,. It's one of those where I know that over a decade-long scale it's probably not the ideal move, but it would be really fun for 2-4 years.

    One of the reasons I like the idea of JSN, regardless of whether he's good value at 9, is that his skill set would lead to him being visibly open early in plays, and Fields really likes for his receivers to be visibly open.
