  1. Philly's top scorer had 62 points. Blackhawks had four players higher than that. Maybe I'm just seeing monsters under the bed with them.
  2. They dominated San Jose more than they are getting credit for. Excluding empty-netters, they scored 1.7 goals for every goal they allowed. In 250+ minutes of hockey, they allowed two even-strength goals (and a shortie). That's domination. Yes, it seemed like it was close if San Jose could have gotten some key goals. But goals were really, really hard to come by for one of the most talented teams in the league.
  3. The series was over anyway, but yesterday's game turned on Nabokov sliding that puck into his own net on Seabrook's goal.
  4. Watching some of the previous playoff highlights again. How different might we be feeling about this team if Seabrook's dump-in doesn't hit Kane in the skate and go straight into the net in Game 6 against Nashville. Right now the line is Blackhawks 2:7. That feels a little too pro-Chicago. Something like 2:3 would be about where I'd put it.
  5. Same conundrum as 2008, 2007 (twice) 2003. Do I buy gear commemorating a lesser championship like the division or conference, thus chipping into what I can spend on championship gear if they win. Or do I wait and see how they do in the final, knowing that if they lose I'll be so disgusted I don't want to buy anything.
  6. Okay, I laid out seven coins and the Blackhawks got heads. Flipped one for each game. Blackhawks lose the final in five, winning only game 2. (Also, they would have lost games 6 and 7 too if it had gotten that far. Stupid coins). That's my official prediction.
  7. And I do have to work on Saturday night. Oh well, I can watch at work, but still.
  8. As of this moment, Toews and Kane are 1-2 in playoff scoring.
  9. I'm definitely of three minds on this one. One is that the Flyers are very defensively sound and actually remind me a lot of us except with more traditional defensemen rather than puck-movers. Pronger is a beast and can dominate a series by himself. Another is that this is a Flyers team that went 41-41 in the regular season and has had a cakewalk schedule in the playoffs, including struggling with a very mediocre and banged-up Boston team. The third is that, like some others, it's easier to be negative and keep your expectations down, so I figure the Blackhawks will not get any breaks and lose in four or five.
  10. i always remember the quote in that clip without even watching it. "this is the kind of talent that can bring a franchise back from the dead" I bet I've seen that clip 200 times.
  11. Wait for them to finish. I'm guessing in Philly wins tomorrow night, we'll see Games 1 and be Friday and Sunday in Chicago. Otherwise we're looking at Sunday and Tuesday.
  12. On the extended WGN radio postgame show (going till 9 p.m. central time, wow!), Q said "he'll be fine" but wouldn't elaborate.
  13. Current odds to win the Stanley Cup on sportsbook.com Blackhawks -350 Flyers +200 Canadiens +2500 I'm reading two schools of thought from neutral fans on hockey message boards. About 90% think the Blackhawks will roll over Philadelphia easily. About 10% think Philly is underrated because of their regular season, and that if you just take how they are playing right now they are pretty close to Chicago.
  14. Three game-winners in the closing minutes and overtime. Crazy.
  15. Hossa that's what i was alluding to, i was curious if he was the first but didn't Hossa lose the first two? Yes. And the Blackhawks have lost five straight Finals.
  16. Oh, and YESSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (almost forgot to get that in)
  17. Rooting so hard for a Montreal comeback. Philly is deep and better than their regular season record.
  18. They caught a lot. You don't smack around a team as good as San Jose without them. But the Hawks also have been burned by (lack of) penalty calls and hit more posts.
  19. Sharks wanted an ugly game of bounces and grinding goals. They got it.
  20. This is getting quite ridiculous. They opened the series with 73:13. They'll beat that at 7:02 of the second.
  21. 66:31 since last San Jose penalty.
  22. It took teams ten games to try that again. I'm glad to let them. No forecheck to deal with? Yes please.
