  1. 2 Ks in 26 PAs in his first taste of AAA = nice.
  2. Our roster full of white guys needed an old white guy to teach them how to act like white guys.
  3. And they've won 100 5 times, so, well, that's nice. Theo will match one of those totals. Possibly both?
  4. It doesn't make it any better, but I suspect they already planned for this. The money spent on last year's payroll, draft and IFAs, and then this year's. Unless we are giving Soler a 10-figure signing bonus, or all the scouts are doing their video work on gold-plated iPads, then it's not adding up.
  5. I had a feeling I was going to screw something up in all that. That means we can get 103 days out of him this season, which puts his call-up date around June 23.
  6. There's no exact date. It's sort of complicated. (warning, this is all sort of gleaned from various web sites, and with baseball you never know if there aren't some secret rules they just haven't bothered to tell anyone about). Every day on the major league roster (or the DL) during the regular season = 1 day of service time. Rizzo already has 68 days of service time. 172 days of service time = 1 year. However, the major league season is always a little longer than 172 days. It can vary year to year, but the most common season configuration is 181 days long. So he can get 9 extra days, give or take, per season just by being on the roster all year long. If we don't want him to be a free agent after the offseason of 2017, we have to make sure he has less than 1032 (172x6) days of service going into that offseason. Or put another way, we don't want his current service time + his 2012 service time + his extra days to get to 172. If he gains 9 extra days of service time for each of the next 5 years, that's 45, plus the 68 he already has = 113. That means we could afford to use him for 58 days this season before it costs us a year of eligibility in the future. Realistically, he has to stay in the minors until mid-August to be sure of not gaining the extra year of service time.
  7. Shut up. I was fiddling with the service time calculations, and I don't think Rizzo can come up before like mid-August and be sure of getting the full six years after this year. It's not an exact science because the MLB season isn't always the same length, but he has like 65 days already plus he gets 5-11 extra days a year for each full year on the roster.
  8. I went to a fair number of games that I was too young to remember. I'm pretty sure the only Cubs I've seen hit home runs at live ballgames out since then are Sammy Sosa (twice, including the second No. 60), Mark Bellhorn and Scott Servais.
  9. Especially if his approach really has changed and he's only swinging at stuff he can drive. Any reports on how hard Vitters singles have been? Have they been grounders getting through holes? or line drives? I know the last few days have been line drives. Not sure about tonight's.
  10. This is today's, right? Days are hard. Vitters singled in his first at-bat, already extending his hit streak.
  11. You could say that, but it'd be kinda silly. He wasn't trying to let guys crush balls.
  12. That's perfectly true, to a degree. But you can parse that sort of thing a lot of different ways to get to wherever you want to go. For example, without some serious help from the wind, Ryan Dempster's ERA is a lot less pretty right now. They've been outscored 28-19 through six games. They may not deserve to be 1-5, but 2-4 would be a lot more fair than 3-3.
  13. Having the opportunity to stretch or warmup doesn't prevent a starting pitcher from potentially getting injured while pinch running. Are there landmines in between 2nd and 3rd? If there were, few Cubs players would be in any danger.
  14. Lined a solid double down the left field line.
  15. There's the fake rally. Worried we might not get it in.
  16. You know you are on a bad streak when you get PH for by the backup catcher.
  17. The bullpen has given up 1 run in its last 9 innings, I think.
