  1. Are you going to let him do what he wants to do to you? Take one for the team.
  2. It seems kind of reckless to put someone who can't see properly in the batter's box.
  3. It says they can't deficit spend for any fiscal period. IANAaccountant, but apparently it's one of the rules of the type of family trust that they used to buy the team in order to save Zell some taxes and protect Papa Ricketts.
  4. Non-decisive early-round games are boring, not all non-decisive games. Combine this with the fact that it adds meaning to winning the division, and you've got one of the best ideas baseball has had in a long time.
  5. I don't understand how people can be given a free decisive game and think "You know what the playoffs really need? More non-decisive early round games."
  6. Wait until five years from now when one of Epstein's friends writes a book. Then it'll be that he did it at gunpoint.
  7. No. He's just a manager.
  8. One-game series are awesome in this case.
  9. I'm just assuming it happens. Girardi really wanted the job in the past and has really good reasons for wanting out of NY. Unless he's doing an *incredible* job of trying to use us to get more money from the Yankees, this is basically a done deal.
  10. I'm irrationally convinced that Rivero is going to be our shut-down reliever within a year or two.
  11. A tax avoidy one with little regard for the team itself.
  12. I'm honestly not sure if this means you want him to be good or bad
  13. The more I think about it, the more brilliant I'm convinced this wild card setup is. A couple of elimination games to start things off (and an extra one this time) is the perfect way to kick off the postseason. It's like that first weekend of the NCAA Tournament.
  14. Shoot, it's not working for me. This is going to be the spin now, I've heard it several places. Sveum had to be fired because Epstein and Co. have done an even better job than anyone imagined and we have to move more quickly than they thought two years ago. So not only is having to fire his first manager pick not proof that he made a mistake, it's proof of his brilliance. :banghead:
  15. I watch knowing that it's going to enrage me.
  16. Even savvy fans severely overestimate how easy it is to define optimal bullpen usage.
  17. I look forward to having to pay two manages being added to the list of reasons why payroll is down.
  18. I also remember that they gave in to Sveum on calling up Jackson and Vitters last year when the front office didn't want to.
  19. Why couldn't they have found someone they already knew was the right kind of manager for them? It's not the sort of job where there's a shortage of candidates. Get it right the first time.
  20. This seems like the most likely outcome to me. Unless Girardi is using us to leverage more money out of the Yankees.
  21. Rondon's velocity was up, too. There wasn't any one flashy thing that happened (maybe acquiring Edwards), but the organization had a really amazing year developing young pithcing.
  22. I can't remember, do they have any restrictions for trading their bonus pool, other than the normal ones every team has? It doesn't appear so, although MLB has been known to either not mention rules or make them up as they go.
  23. Rosscup puts his MLB K/IP back over 1 with that last strikeout. I'm legit excited for our bullpen next year.
  24. Your reverse e-peen over your post count is a little weird.
  25. I changed my mind.
