  1. Perhaps, but you're asking to hit on a lot of things at the same time, and the end result isn't even that great in the short and medium term. There's some chance that Castro won't bounce back and become a full-on star again, there's some chance that Rizzo stagnates, there's some chance that Baez or Bryant won't make it. The odds are pretty good that at least one of those some chances happens. If this team is going to be really good before like 2017 or 2018, we have to have major outside talent infusions or have basically everyone on the 40-man with any talent at all go nuts.
  2. When they're all in their early 20's (well, Rizzo more mid), I think it's pretty good. Which brings us back to what I said: It's gonna take a loooong time to get there if we can't have major outside acquisitions and Rizzo/Castro don't become awesome. Because we're still talking about *hoping* that those four can be "pretty good for their 20's" but not really all that great as our team cornerstones in 2015.
  3. I don't think it's super unlikely that they'll give us 16 wins combined in 2015 or something. But 16 wins from the four best players on your roster, and that's what they'd be if we're this broke, is kinda meh.
  4. Not if Bryant and/or Baez are already 2-4 win players in a year. Not overly likely but not something I consider even close to impossible (especially for just one of them) either. Even if then. Even if Bryant and Baez are above average immediately in 2014/15, without big acquisitions or big steps forward, we aren't likely to be a good team.
  5. If we really are that broke, and Castro and Rizzo don't become 5-win players like *really* soon, then it's going to take us a loooong time to get to that direction we're working toward.
  6. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/10/17/sounds-like-the-white-sox-are-going-to-get-jose-abreu/ Basically, three finalists have been reported and two are reported to be out, leaving the Reinsdorfs.
  7. It says "average," so it should be obvious whether it's mean or median.
  8. That's heroinlious. I mean hilarious.
  9. http://www.bleachernation.com/2013/10/17/wgn-looking-to-renegotiate-radio-deal-with-the-chicago-cubs/ WGN Radio exercises option to reopen contract with Cubs, presumably because they think they can get it back for less than the $10m/year they spend now.
  10. I wonder if they might try to bring up Baez and Bryant around the same time (August or September) next year to lessen the pressure on either one?
  11. This is how it begins. Nobody thought the Cubs were cursed when they lost that first World Series after 1908.
  12. My first thought when someone mentioned Almora walked yesterday was that maybe they were letting him pitch and the person had typo'd balk.
  13. And Rosscup and Edwards and Vizcaino.
  14. I'm adding "Internet's Most Important Cubs Fan" to my list of titles. He's basically right: We got a decent run from the early 2000s group and we'll get at least that from this group, more than likely, although the tougher division may have something to say about it.
  15. If I had to guess, I'd say Kane County. He's a pitcher, so getting in healthy innings with personal improvement is more important than the level of competition.
  16. That's encouraging. Where does he start this year? KC or Daytona? Or do they hold him at instructs until the MWL starts? Uh isn't KC the MWL? I assume he meant NWL
  17. Jason Cole ‏@LoneStarDugout 2m Big arm strength from #Cubs RHP prospect Juan Carlos Paniagua at instructs today. Working 92-96, T97. Flashing plus life.
  18. OK, now I hope Puig ties it and flips the bat so hard it flies into the press box and permanently debilitates Mike Shannon.
  19. GFY oh god, this again... has kyle really been a part of my life for 5 years jesus christ Stop quoting my wife.
  20. GFY oh god, this again... It's perfectly customary for people to take up new teams in the playoffs when the Cubs aren't involved. This is totally normal.
  21. It's a risk-reward thing, because if they Vitters, then you've got an even bigger problem for next year. Might as well never bring them up. Or just do it when you think so for baseball reasons and not for a cheap boost. Yeah, but they could always "Vitters" regardless of how ready they may seem. Never mind.

  24. GFY That's exactly what it feels like. And that's not all bad.
  25. Screw it, I'm going to enjoy this. Go Cardinals.
