  1. A starting pitcher, a reliever, a veteran outfielder, a veteran bench infielder, a veteran catcher.
  2. I can't believe we have a 20-page game thread.
  3. Turner is 23 vs EJax 30...I'm a little more patient with JT That's why it's a small fear. But the whole time he was in the game we were hyping about his stuff and how awesome he looked while two or three baserunners got on every inning.
  4. Exactly how often has this happened? Most of his rep in the past has been for mental errors on defense.
  5. My plan is to try to forget this is a thing as quickly as possible.
  6. That loss does not bother me. That was not a bad loss. Other than a small fear that maybe Turner has Edwin Jackson Disease.
  7. If Javy squares up a fastball, the resulting concussive wave knocks out most of the fielders.

And he is. Mainly because of mental blunders. He's not. Oh wait, I see it. Don't worry about it, it's UZRNG
  9. I'll bet you seven NSBBucks that he looked at his defensive WAR on Fangraphs. More like, he has nine errors this year. And several other blunders that are holding him back. I admit he has the potential to be a fantastic defender. And has been pretty good. But not great. If you don't think his mental lapses are holding him back defensively, then I don't know what to say. Holding him back? Sure, I can buy that. But he's still way above average.
  10. Tied for the team lead in OOB this year, ran away with the team lead last year, one short of the team lead in 2012 despite playing half the year.

  12. Different narrative. Castro falls under "brown people are lazy and rely on natural ability" Cutler falls under "A QB's play is irrelevant, what matters is that he's a winny winner who wills his team to win with his inherent winningness."
  13. That doesn't make it not racist. The narrative can be racist on some level locally because I believe if it had been Rizzo you wouldn't read about it tomorrow but JD would've still gotten on him. However, Castro has had too many instances where his mental lapses have cost his team and lost games. And guess what? That's not because he is brown, that's because he doesn't keep his head in the game at all times. Other players have issues with that too, but it doesn't seem to show up in situations that directly cost teams ballgames. He has earned the reputation and it's easy to keep it when it happens on a regular basis. I still think he's a stud and I love his game, but those little plays right there need to go away and that has nothing to do with skin color. I have a feeling your definition of "cost the team a ballgame" is going to be arbitrary, weird, and a moving target.
  14. Castro hit a 398-foot single that he admired lovingly from the batter's box for way too long, Baez had to hold and went to third. Then a single to the left of the SS drove Baez in.
  15. Well, that kinda gets Castro off the hook.
  16. That doesn't make it not racist. Fine. Think of it this way. Every gaffe-prone hispanic player in Chicago is going to get the rep, but a guy like Rizzo (who is a tootblan machine) or Coghlan (who is brutal defensively and has been caught admiring this year too) goes under the radar. That's why the rep is both deserved and created by racism. Ugh, this one cost them a tie game.
  17. He crushed a ball to center, but got under it just a tiny bit and it went off the wall. It was only a single because he stood there admiring it instead of running. Why did Baez not score? He had to hold up in case it was caught. Hamilton got reasonably close to it. Then it went off the wall and went straight to Hamilton, who made a good throw in.
  18. No one ever said it was. Sure seems like it. But maybe I'm now just the one making generalizations. People being racist about a ballplayer's mistakes don't mean the ballplayer doesn't make mistakes. It means he's held to a standard white players aren't. Guarantee Castro's gaffe will be a story tomorrow, especially if they lose. Coghlan could have done the same thing and it'd be gone already.

  20. should I know what this means When you have a big ERA despite good peripherals and stuff, you lose your vowels.
