  1. It's fun to hear for years that part of the reason for stockpiling prospects is that they are currency that can be traded, only to have some fans start clutching their pearls at the thought of trading them now that we are on the verge of being good.
  2. We're full up on the types of starting pitchers that get moved in deals involving Luis Valbuena.
  3. Well, as long as no infielder ever gets hurt or needs a day off, then who cares if we downgrade the 5th infield spot from Luis Valbuena to Logan ".550 OPS waiting to happen" Watkins? We've got to get out of this loser mentality where we hate having anything good on the roster that isn't a fun prospect.
  4. What are we getting in return that we need more? Value has it's place, but for teams that are trying to win, roster construction matters more. Could we use them (and others of our top 100-150 prospects) to get some Top 50 guys or higher, to use in the mythical Stanton deal? For instance, Valbuena+Wada+Vogelbach might interest some AL team into giving up a good prospect, no? We aren't short of prospects to make a Stanton deal. If you're trading for Stanton, you're trying to win. And if you're trying to win, there's no point in voluntarily downgrading Valbuena's roster spot.
  5. What are we getting in return that we need more? Value has it's place, but for teams that are trying to win, roster construction matters more.
  6. Valbuena's going to put up a 3-win season and half the fanbase is going to think he's an OK backup who shouldn't start on a good team.
  7. Urgh. I already saw someone today suggest Baez start at AAA in 2015 so Watkins could get a run as the starting 2b. I wish fans didn't make it impossible to feel good for scrubby players who get little hot streaks.
  8. Soler just gives zero effs about MLB pitching.
  9. Hmm, Bryant was still struggling with Ks despite his uberOPS back then. I wonder if we have any examples of how those types translate to the majors.
  10. Binary "ready/not ready" is silly. He could probably be fine in MLB right now, but that doesn't mean there's nothing he could possibly gain from being down there.
  11. It's such terrible pizza, but $5 and no waiting.
  12. I don't think there's ever been a baseball player where 6.9 years of control wasn't plenty from the team's POV. Nobody's just dying to lock in guaranteed money eight years down the road.
  13. Would this be team-friendly enough: year 1: team option 500k (must play less than full season) year 2: team option 500k year 3: team option 500k year 4: team option 500k year 5: team option 15% of market value year 6: team option 25% of market value year 7: team option 40% of market value
  14. Not unless he is willing to sign something absurdly team friendly. Having 6.9 non-guaranteed, severely depressed years is awesome.
  15. Seems odd that you are laughing at the Tigers in one statement, than seem to be praising the Angels in the next. All misfortune in others is funny, even if for opposing reasons.
  16. Oooh, feed off their disrespect Javy. Use it.
  17. For a guy who is struggling at the plate, he sure does hit a lot of homers.
  18. Can't agree on Valbuena or Alcantara being expendable. Valbuena especially is an ideal utility guy. Nor are any of the relievers expendable.
  19. Baez looks awesome defensively. I should probably be a bit more worried about his bat, but I'm not.
  20. It's hard to frame an Alcantara trade because it creates as many holes as it fills, and how they fill that resulting hole is as important as who they get back for him. The only trades I really want to see is excess prospects for something awesome.
  21. IMB! started it and he listens to rap and covers execution. That proves he's cool, and therefore it is cool.
