  1. IIRC, there was a story about how he told Zambrano he'd be getting a chance to prove himself that came out about six hours before the trade.
  2. While I'd be disappointed at standing pat, I understand this is how Theo has operated since he got here. He's not going to wildly overpay for someone, so if the asking price is too high for a TOR starter right now (with the decision aided by the Cubs mediocre play over the last month), he will move to plan B to add one in the offseason. I'm sure it wouldn't be his ideal scenario, but neither is including Schwarber in a deal for Hamels or something if the asking price gets into that range. The fact that it reflects how Epstein has operated since he got here is *why* it would be disappointing. We were promised that if the team is in the hunt, it would be different. And I still think it will be.
  3. It's a way to convince yourself it's OK to trade prospects without ruining your virtue.
  4. Turns out taking injury-prone pitchers for the Garza trade wasn't a brilliant market inefficiency after all. Or maybe it was and it was just a good risk that crapped out. I just feel like taking potshots.
  5. Save us, Javy. You're our last hope.
  6. Whatever on LeMahieu. Sometimes turdy, stupid little players magically become kinda OK. Doesn't mean you were wrong to trade them.
  7. Why do we still care about the Pirates? Well, when we pass the Cardinals, I'd like it to mean we are in first place.
  8. Whoever scouted Soriano in the minors and said he could be called up has some explaining to do.
  9. Like 2, maybe 3 guys have hit their 50% projections. There are various reasons and places for blame as to why that happened, that's the how. Think about all the young guys we had appear for the offense in 2014: Baez, Soler, Rizzo, Castro, Alcantara. Zero out of the five are having better years in 2015 than they did in 2014.
  10. I think a lot here will be disappointed but the majority of fans will be fine. The "well 2016 was the year anyways don't want to trade the prospects for rentals anyways." Will be a common theme, imo. Personally I get if a big name acquisition doesn't happen but I'd be disappointed if we at least don't do a De La Rosa/Venable/Parra /Burnett type acquisition And if we're 52-49 and 8 games out of the division next year, it will be "2017 was always The Year. We're built for the long haul, there's no hurry. Let this young team mature naturally."
  11. Vogelbach's future is as a guy who puts up an .825 OPS in the PCL for like four years in a row in his late 20s.
  12. HEY I WOULD NEVER ALLOW MYSELF A FEW MOMENTS OF HAPPINESS.
  13. Yeah, I'd be ok with getting the pitcher who has 6.0 fWAR in the last 1.5 seasons for the SS who has 4.8 in the last 3.5.
  14. Run differentail back to even. #weareokay Edit: I fail math and spelling
  15. At least if they only win 76 games we won't have to hear insipid narratives about how they improve every year. Thin silver linings?
  16. Castro has barely any value at all, and Baez is maybe a top-50 prospect right now? Yeah, that's probably not enough for Hamels by a large margin.
  17. I know where he is. I'm not telling, but it's good and you would all love it if you knew.
  18. Without regard for the validity of Hoops, the fact that we've gone from "insane middle infield logjam" to searching for a long-term answer at 2b being plausible is pretty insane.
  19. I was trying to prove that Hammel is a perfectly fine, if not great, #3 starter to have on a contending team instead of just "a decent pitcher, but not a #3 on a contender he is a good #4/5 tho" If he pitches like he did in the first half of the season in perpetuity, then absolutely. I don't know if that's something you can count on. In 2012, he put up a great 118 innings for the Orioles, then fell apart in 2013. In 2014, he put up a great 108 innings for the Cubs, then fell apart in 2013. So we've gotten 115 or whatever good innings from him in 2015, and that's awesome, but I'm not exactly excited about his second half.
