  1. The lesson from that list shouldn't be "Hammel is a No. 2." It's "statline scouting pitchers for half a season isn't a good predictor."
  2. Fangraphs playoff odds down to 40.8%. It was over 70 like a week ago.
  3. I can see us letting him go on an August waiver claim or getting nothing notable in a trade. $38m guaranteed is an awful lot for a guy averaging less than 1 fWar per year over the last three.
  4. Saying "Defensive WAR is tricky" is not a magic phrase that allows you to ignore all defensive value a player brings.
  5. Some chance? I think there's a chance we see Castro shipped out by the deadline and Baez taking his place.
  6. IMB! called me a "hairydicked idiot" for some thing or another and I thought it was funny and asked for a name change. They wouldn't let me have it spelled normally.
  7. Wait. The fact that this season is very much in play with two months left.....that's in spite of Theo? We are exactly where we are because of Theo. This does not absolve him of where we've been nor credit him for where we may yet be.
  8. Quite the opposite. The fact that this season is still very much in play gives me room to criticize Epstein if he doesn't do the right moves to get them there. It's the Epstein supporters that can't wait to declare this a "not really trying" year that doesn't matter for some reason.
  9. He's a [expletive] 21 year old rookie! And Starlin's a 25 year old, 3 time all star with a career line of .284/.325/.410. So maybe we shut the [expletive] up and give them both the benefit of the doubt. His career line going into today was 279/319/398
  10. On July 21, 2014, the Royals were 4.5 games out of the 2nd wild card with four teams in front of them. They were 48-50, with the 2nd worst offense in the AL and a negative run differential. They had lost 7 of 8, with five of those losses seeing them score 1 or 0 runs. I'm not saying a run like that is likely, or that it doesn't suck that we've sucked lately, but maybe let the season play out before we give up on it or retroactively declare it "not really trying."
  11. Obviously we didn't punt enough. Shouldn't have gone for it this year.
  12. Soler playing at like a 1.1 fWAR per year pace, but exit velocity still sexy as hell I'm sure.
  13. Who do you want that's on the market right now, real talk? (Bear in mind that you have to pay for these players, costing you pieces that are possibly already at the major league level, like Schwarber, because aint nobody wants Baez and Castro) We need everything more or less, so I don't have any specific wants. Real talk: No, they aren't going to require a Schwarber-level piece to make an upgrade.
  14. Wins come from anywhere. They could have none of the cornerstone guys start doing well and still make it. They could have some of them do well and just barely miss, leaving us wishing they'd done some buying. They need to be buying regardless. Hell, hold on to McKinney-level guys if you have to and trade the Cs, but they need to make some addition(s).
  15. I can honestly imagine this team being four out by Thursday and deciding not to buy
  16. Oh man remember when Domonic Brown ha a HR/FB ratio of a million and it made him seem like a good player for two months?
  17. Could today be the day Castro reaches the -1 fWar mark?
  18. Falling down 5-0 to the reds and tying it immediately wasn't that long ago.
  19. Oh look, we are starting that thing that always happens after Hammel has a good half-season.
  20. I think it's the shift in the standings that hurts more than the actual record. A few weeks ago, we were legitimately talking about the chance to run away with the 2nd WC to the degree that deadline deals would be superfluous. Now we're 1.5 out.
