Does a bullpen have to have a shutdown guy to win baseball games? You may feel better if they have one, but again: your emotions are important on a human scale because you are a person and you matter in a cosmic sort of way. But they mean jack poop about baseball.

The Dodgers' bullpen is 28th in net WPA. Baseball games are not won or lost in any way by how you feel at various points. Your emotions are not a scoring play.

Of 136 qualified relievers, the Cubs have 3 of the top 50 in Win Probability Added. That doesn't even include Grimm, who has been terrific this year and due to injury and Maddon's preference hasn't been given many high leverage innings. cubs pitchers in close/late situations, per baseball reference: .221/.299/.327/.625 But what were their numbers in those situations *today*? We're getting off track here. The point is that whatever the contract looks like today is definitive. So Theo should feel very, very bad about that Castro extension.

Like when we shopped Garza and Samardzija for three months each then politely accepted the best offer on the table. Yes, this is exactly like those situations. It actually is, but that isn't as much fun as "lol Phillies are dumb" memes. Not that they aren't dumb, but holding a high line on trade demands has a lot of precedent with smarter front offices.

It wasn't predictable how much his contact problems would be exploited by major league pitching. Not to the degree that it was. Nobody was predicting that. -

You do not give up top tier prospects for the right to pay a pitcher 25-30M a year. I'm not sure there are any top-tier prospects in that proposal. -
And then moved out of the infield entirely for the same reason.

He's putting up a .411 BABIP in AAA, that's the only reason his slash line looks any better. He was worse on an fWAR/game basis than Castro in the majors this year. Herrera? Fine, but you're giving up any hope of ever recouping any trade value from Castro.
