Pitching is fickle. This was always probably going to happen some years. I'm just glad we won it all last year and are good enough to tread water while the pitching takes a dump.

I'm not sure I can get behind the line of thought that says "we're looking at mediocrity at best, so what we really needed was more 4th-round picks."

If we only win 88 games this year because the pitching does a turd or something, we'll still be tied for the most World Series championships over the last two years and that's just fine. But that's probably not going to come up.

They're running a football team, not some kind of fantasy Rounders strategy session. You don't try to soul-read whether they are bluffing or not, you put them on a range of possibilities and make the best decision for you. If you think it's Trubinsky, the price they paid was not unreasonable. It's just a matter of whether they are right about him or not.

That's pretty much me. I didn't pay attention at all this offseason. Why would I cue up MLBtraderumors or something when I can just watch the highlights from last playoffs again? It was like this after the Blackhawks' first for me too. "Oh, they lost. Guess I'll watch the championship DVD instead of the highlights..."
