  1. This. No. Neither of those things is inherently different from the basic game of baseball where you have 3 outs per inning to advance a runner from home to home. It is much different. And dumb. And it will only slow the pace of play, because nothing slows things down like guys in running position in extras. Playing both the field and batting used to be inherent to the game of baseball.
  2. It's one of those things that we'll probably get used to and not care about, like the DH or interleague games or whatever. But for right now it sounds stupid.
  3. OK now I'm as sad as I should be that he's gone. Yu better be worth it.
  4. 2-0 in the world series! Personally swatting down whatever that little thing was that the Pirates had going on for a couple of years.
  5. Oh yeah, this guy threw two no-hitters for the Cubs. This should feel like a bigger deal than it does.
  6. The rumored extension the Cubs were offering was probably worth more than what he is receiving from the Phillies. Yeah, Boras and Arrieta messed up and are probably pissed about what happened. I don't think I'd be results oriented on this. It was probably the right move at the time, even if it didn't work out.
  7. It started getting to me last year. Welcome to the club. Honestly, it probably started in the 2016 postseason for me. The moment he brought Chapman in during game 6, I started doubting whether I wanted him here. It worked out so I forgave him, but for while there it looked like he was dustying the hell out of game 7 and I just couldn't believe it.
  8. Also win now in NFL terms can be anywhere. even Chicago? Probably not. But maybe?
  9. Seabrook was an Olympian and might very well end up in the Hall of Fame. He's not that guy now but he once was among the top tier of defensemen. If you mean that he was overshadowed by those guys then that's certainly true. Olympian is a good fit for him. He probably wouldn't be a HOFer if not for being on a great team. Keith at his peak was a No. 1 among No. 1s. Seabrook was a good No. 2 or a weak No. 1.
  10. Got to see them live today as they were in town to play the Ducks. Jesus they look bad. Kane was sloppy and has lost a half-step. Keith has lost a step. Seabrook has lost a step. Their D looked particularly awful, no control of the front of the net either by clearing or well-timed sticks. They outshot Anaheim, but Anaheim's shot quality was way, way higher. Probably just overreacting from what I saw, but I don't think this is a one-year fluke. I know hockey careers have traditionally lasted longer, but Keith is 34, Seabrook is 32, Kane and Toews are 29. They're exiting their athletic primes and have a ton of playoff miles on them. They can still be useful players, but we might have seen the end of them as elite differencemakers (yes, I know, Seabrook was never quite on that level). Combine that with the very uninspiring rest of the roster, and I think we might be headed toward something similar to what's happened to Vancouver.
  11. It's not a system thing. It's just something that's always bugged me about Howard and that I suspect makes him less valuable than he seems. It won't show up in his statline when your other four receivers have more trouble getting open because defenses don't have to worry about him when calling coverages. And given the lack of longevity running backs usually display, feels like a great time to sell high on him. Basically, screw RBs, they're the pitchers of football.
  12. I would be OK with that. I think Howard's utter lack of receiving threat is a bigger drawback than it seems.
  13. Or else what? We'll most likely suck again? I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're fine with that. Right or wrong, they could easily decide this is one more developmental year.
  14. You can't do anything but preach being careful in free agency. You know what I mean though. He's got to land an impact talent or two, PLUS the mid tier guys he's gotten in the past. Or else what?
  15. *squints* I have no idea who "reayel piatko"? is and neither does google.
  16. My favorite Bear of all-time is Mitch Trubisky and yours should be too.
  17. OK but that's the last one and we never speak about the general idea again.
  18. To be fair to Grimm...this IS Spring training. I prefer HRs allowed to walks at this point, no matter last year's HR/9 rate. Very true. He's not wrong. But I'm not sure the best thing for a guy fighting for a roster spot is to give up bombs, like he did non-stop last year. (obligatory yearly) I really hope we're not giving our roster spots based on spring training performance.
  19. Horsefeathers pitchers forever
  20. The only spring training result that matters for any pitcher is did they throw their allotted pitches and not get hurt.
  21. I always liked the idea of being able to send out the players in any order you want until you've gone through the entire lineup, then repeat the process.
  22. You can't fool me. The first two are 80s rock stars.
  23. I think we're missing the subtle racism at play. We immediately see Mark Prior in the 1989 NLCS as fake, but we all believed Alfonso Soriano orchestrated the Trail of Tears.
  24. I had never heard it either.
  25. I guess Dusty is partially absolved. Whoever thought it was a good idea to have a 9 year old pitching in an MLB playoff game should get some of the blame. I hope he wasn't forced to throw any breaking balls. Real life Rookie of the Year just wasn't as good as the movie. Most professional pitchers these days are in excellent physical shape and do not, in fact, have big butts.
