  1. Personally, if I said Peyton Manning didn't win anything in Denver, I would stop typing for a few hours. I wouldn't say that coaches don't matter. I would say that fans massively overestimate their impact, especially after anger-inducing losses. They understand "adjustments" at the level Cosmo Kramer understands tax write offs. I could go a long, long way down the list of reasons the Bears lost that game yesterday before I got to Eberflus and Waldron. Key defensive starters hurt, offensive line decimated, veteran WRs showing their age, rookie QB having an inconsistent day (although I really didn't think he was terrible).
  2. Outlier isn't a magic word that makes data points you don't like go away, even if that's how most of the internet uses it
  3. I know better than to expect anything from football fans in general, and especially when they're mad, but damn. Eberflus is probably gonna get fired this off-season, and that's fine, nothing of value will be lost. But it will accomplish exactly as much as the last six firings did.
  4. 1) I didn't say "with new teams.". All of those QBs had winning seasons virtually every year of their primes and deep into their declines, despite having several different head coaches. They didn't just all coincidentally have good coaches every year. It's insane how hard it is to get people to admit that the players on the field are the ones playing the game and deciding who wins and loses 2) jfc you're not derwood, I shouldn't have to link this https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/den/2015.htm
  5. I think when we are at the point where we say Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers didn't win anything, we've left serious conversation land. Or more accurately, admitting we were never there
  6. I don't think Eberflus is an idiot or that the locker room is completely unsalvageable. But I think that's moot because with this schedule and these injuries, he's not likely to win enough to salvage it and is probably gone at the end of the season.
  7. You can tell this theory is true because great QBs struggle to win consistently when coaches change. Guys like Manning and Rodgers and Brady fall right back to 5-12 town when they get bad coaches. The degree to which football fans completely dismiss player impact because it's easier to be mad at coaches is fascinating.
  8. It was never more than 50% for Williams to be the best QB in the draft. You can't take one guy against the field. The Williams pick is a pass/fail pick on whether or not he becomes a franchise qb, Daniels nor maye nor anyone else has anything to do with it. And I wouldn't exactly give up on Williams being the best of them based on half a rookie season p
  9. I have zero faith in fans' ability to tell the difference between players getting outplayed and a failed game plan. The game plan didn't tell Allen and Moore to develop dropsies, it didn't tell Caleb Williams to be scared to throw one on ones outside of the red zone or to spray throws, it didn't tell the offensive line to not block anyone.
  10. I mean, the things they're getting criticized for is the exact things they did to try to adapt. Running with Swift a lot on early downs to keep ahead of the chains, leaving TEs to block a lot.
  11. I have minimal issues with the OC. If you wanna blame Eberflus for late defensive collapses and the locker room looking like it's slipping away, sure. But the primary reason the offense can't score points some weeks is the inconsistent play of our rookie QB. And the second reason is that our offensive line is completely blasted by injuries. We had our sixth option at tackle on the field by the end of the game
  12. You know what's funny? I'm not sure Kyler Murray had a better day than Williams did. He just didn't need to.
  13. I'm sure bears internet will be falling over themselves to have the the most doom-y, angry takes they can imagine, but I think even the realistic take is pretty bad for the short-term. It's theoretically possible to overcome a bad loss that drops you to 4-4, but I wouldn't bet on this team in this state doing it. The keys to having a decent season were staying healthy and banking wins early, and neither of those happened. There's literally zero chance Eberflus is getting fired mid-season. It's just not going to happen. But the vibes were bad last week, they're going to be worse this week, and I would be surprised if we didn't have more ugly losses in our future. So I wouldn't bet money on him surviving Black Monday. So it goes. I thought Caleb Williams looked bad but not disastrously bad. C-/D+ territory. I'd like for him to miss fewer throws, but he wasn't *as* bad as his stat line looks. I didn't love the look on his face in the second half. He looked a bit defeated and ready to move on from the game, not that I can blame him. And he limped off the field on the final play. JFC. The defense without Sweat is not a good defense. Pending Wright's injury, our tackles next week may be Borom/that dude we elevated from the practice squad with a first backup of ... someone else from the practice squad? Someone off the street? If we don't get healthy fast, the Lions are going to drop 100 on us
  14. Wright is hurt? Lololol Never mind, kneel it out
  15. Poles is getting a second coach. You can debate all you want about whether he deserves it, he is
  16. I really don't see the point of running the ball from here on out
  17. Every time a team has a good half season unexpectedly, people attribute it to coaching. Everyone was saying the same things about daboll a few years ago. Firing eberflus won't hurt anything but it won't fix anything. The team will start winning when Caleb Williams starts throwing like Jayden Daniels
  18. Good news: the defense collapsing with injuries and a lost locker room will be great for Williams' chances to hit 4k
  19. They're not firing a 4-4 coach this week. But the odds that this season ends with Eberflus firing looks a lot higher than they did 10 days ago
