So yeah, this team is going to have a helluva time winning 9+ games without this one. The second half of the schedule is full of games that are a lot harder than this.
But I'm about as happy as I can be. Caleb Williams just put up the 11th-most passing yards in a game in franchise history, in his third game as a pro. He didn't look perfect, but he looked better the longer the game went. His first quarter was terrible, but every quarter after that got better. He hit some deep throws, he made some throws into tight pro coverage, he used the middle of the field. This is the kind of game elite QBs have early in their careers.
The first INT was a rookie mistake. The second INT I really didn't mind, he lasered a throw to a receiver he trusts and put it on his hands in tight coverage. Two separate defenders made great plays to turn it into an INT, it happens.
Waldron is going to eat so much horsefeathers this week, and he deserves it for the disastrous goal-line sequence that was arguably the difference in the game. But I really liked the game plan overall.
The running game looked a little better. Not a lot better, but at least the ball usually went forward. I'll take it. Roschon Johnson looked like our best back and it wasn't particularly close.
Taylor had a bad game. There's no such thing an elite punter. He outkicked his coverage several times and he hit a wobbling half-shank on his best chance to pin them deep.
The defense did about as good as you could hope. The Colts' offensive line is really good and they broke off some big runs, especially when defending a lead, but we repeatedly made Anthony Richardson play QB, which he can't do.
