  1. Remember how much we laughed when Brewers fans thought their front office and future outlook was better than ours? What idiots they were
  2. Nagy's had repeated chances to prove that he can produce a useful NFL offense and failed every one of them. But he's not The One Thing Holding Us Back. Nagy didn't even try, but you can't really scheme around an offensive line performing as bad as this one did. And our skill position players have a few bright spots (Montgomery, Robinson) but not a ton of depth. And our QB options are a broken-down retread who was never that great to begin with, or an unpolished rookie who clearly isn't ready. And we only have 29 players under contract for next season, with no first or fourth round pick. And the guy who orchestrated all of these problems is still in charge. This is a bad franchise with every reason to believe it will continue to be bad, unless Fields is everything you guys hope and drags them kicking and screaming into acceptableness.
  3. OK, so the guy who is *better* than a Peyton Manning-level prospect somehow fell to No. 11. This is the kind of hype train I'm just not seeing. Aaron Rodgers fell to 24th. Lamar Jackson went 32nd. Deshaun Watson was the top college QB prospect for 2 years, and went 12th. horsefeathers happens all the time, man. None of those guys were "better prospects than Peyton Manning." And for every one of them, there's a dozen guys picked around those spots who flame out
  4. Have pro days gotten more reliable? Because pro day 40 times used to be ... less than reliable, but maybe that's changed.
  5. Maybe if talent = arm only. Cutler has a better arm, but Fields has shown better in literally every other aspect of quarterbacking than Cutler and he runs a 4.4. 5-star recruit, 2nd rated HS football recruit to Trevor Lawrence, who he beat in a Nike camp for MVP, and in the national playoffs last year. Trevor Lawrence was seen on the Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning level of QB prospects and Justin Fields was better than him every time they were on the same field. OK, so the guy who is *better* than a Peyton Manning-level prospect somehow fell to No. 11. This is the kind of hype train I'm just not seeing.
  6. He doesn't have more raw talent than Cutler
  7. not going to seriously reply to this because you’re just doing Kyle things but fields is literally one of the fastest people that has ever played quarterback in the nfl Is he playing hurt or something? Maybe he's just never run full speed as a Bear yet. One of the best rushing plays I can remember seeing from him so far is this one at 4:21: It's nice, but it doesn't make me go "holy crap, that guy is one of the fastest NFL QBs of all time"
  8. As always, I am an idiot, but what am I supposed to love so much about Fields? I see plenty to like. I'm fine taking him 11th overall. But he keeps getting talked about as an elite prospect and ... why? His arm is fine, but certainly nothing special. I'd call it NFL average. It won't stop him from being a starter, but it's not anything special. He's not gonna zip balls into impossible windows or anything. His accuracy is fine, but it doesn't stand out to me. His mobility is fine, but there's plenty of guys who are faster. He's not going to make defenses sweat at night with how they're going to stop him from running. If he figures out how to make quick, accurate decisions, he'll be a good NFL starter. But that's true of a half-dozen guys every draft. What am I missing?
  9. This time I’m not accepting any of the arguments that the QB was a failure. It’s 100% staff. Fields is a no-doubt top prospect period end of story. You don't generally see the no-doubters fall out of the top 10 and go third at their position
  10. Next comes two or three years of arguing how much is his fault vs coaching and supporting cast Then when we give up on him, we bring in some crappy retread vet on the principle that he will have to be a huge improvement. Then the vet will suck, we use a high draft pick on a QB and the cycle continues
  11. Are football coaches allowed to lie to the media?! I get it. You don't think it's a big deal what Nagy says, you make it clear every time 2 days after the conversation has ended. And yes, he does have every right to be coy with every single thing around the team. But we also have every right to criticize him as his Fangio induced good season followed by a pair of mediocre years which include failure to put an NFL caliber offense on the field hasn't given him the benefit of the doubt. Criticize him for that then.
  12. Huh? I think the point he is trying to make is that Nagy has said, "Fields will start when he's ready and we will all know when that is". He wasn't ready last week with Dalton as an option, so why is he ready this week when Foles is the only other option? The only thing that makes sense is they think Dalton is better than Fields, but Fields is better than Foles. I mean, we know they don't want to waste anymore time on Foles, which is understandable. But a lot of us have questioned why they thought it was OK wasting time on Dalton. Are football coaches allowed to lie to the media?!
  13. It's football. Who knows what will really happen. But on paper, this team looks pretty bad to me. Offensive line is bad, WRs and RBs are mediocre and shallow, QB is a retread castoff and a rookie. Defense is aging, thin and full of holes. I expect to get torched by LA
  14. I'm so intensely bored with "Bears find a way to win 9-11 games despite mediocre QB play" seasons. I'd rather have the ROY.
  15. My baby momma is in town, so I get my 2 days off for the half-year. I'm going to try to hit a full-size course for the first time tomorrow despite having picked up the clubs twice in the last six months. We'll see how it goes.
  16. I don't really get worked up about the reasoning for doing things, because it's not their job to tell me the truth.
  17. I love me a good doom boner train about these Bears, but nothing that happens in pre-season matters outside of not getting hurt.
  18. Is it just me or, unless Fields has some kind of unbelievable rookie magic, is this season gonna suck?
  19. This is exactly why I'm only keeping one foot on the hype train. It's always different this time, until it isn't. But maybe this time it is.
  20. It's funny because I've heard plenty people raving about Fields' arm.....From his pro day at Ohio St to the people at training camp. But I feel like he doesn't have a super impressive arm. Not meaning that as a knock as I think he's definitely got an NFL caliber arm and it's certainly good enough, but I always thought his arm was more Deshaun Watson than a complete arm cannon like Jay Cutler had and guys like Josh Allen have. I've heard people say, "haven't seen the ball come out with this much zip since Cutler" and I don't think Fields has that level of arm. Again, which is completely fine. Yeah. It's definitely enough arm strength to succeed in the NFL. I'm just greedy and want Cutler-style zip.
  21. Watching his plays now. He's mostly placing the ball correctly, but everything is to well-covered receivers. I don't know if he had better options or if that's just what was there. The throw across his body with 7 seconds left in the half was really impressive. I wouldn't mind a touch more arm strength, the ball takes a bit to get there, but he's definitely accurate.
  22. McNown/Favre comparisons were about the idea that he would be able to scramble and improvise to make plays.
  23. Trubisky was a little mixed on draft day, but there were tons of great reports coming out of camp. I remember when Cade McNown was NFL ready and basically the next Brett Favre. no you don’t yes, I do. And I remember when Kevin Orie was going to be rookie of the year. But I also remember when we sent Kerry Wood down in 1998 after ST and someone said "if they have five better starters than him, they're winning it all."

  25. Really? I remember hype being a lot more tepid for Mitch as most thought there was going to be a learning curve. People were quick to point out when he did well but it wasn’t the kind of horsefeathers I’m reading about Fields. Though I did go to the Reddit page for all 5 first round QB teams the other day and they all seem to think their QB is going to be competing with Brady for GOAT by the end of their careers. Except the Jets that is Trubisky was a little mixed on draft day, but there were tons of great reports coming out of camp. I remember when Cade McNown was NFL ready and basically the next Brett Favre.
