  1. Miller can go away and never come back. I know we shouldn't be throwing away a moderately talented guy in the last year of a cheap deal, but screw him.
  2. I dunno. I don't hate Nagy. NFL coaches without a QB inevitably look dumb, like MLB managers without a bullpen. I can't really say that his teams have underperformed their talent. I do hate Pace, but I can understand why he might not be getting fired today. I don't really care what they do in the short-term. I don't really expect them to go scorched earth rebuild and I'm not sure that's even all that useful. They'll make some amount of moves to try to be competitive in 2021, and as long as they don't go crazy backloading contracts or trading picks, I don't really care how they go about it. All I care about is that we have two primary long-term goals: 1) Drafting QBs until we have a franchise-quality QB 2) Getting the situation set up for our QB draftees to have the best opportunity possible. I don't care about defense at all. I want our QB to come into an offensive situation so good that even when he succeeds people still doubt whether it's him or all the talent around him. I want top-notch receivers, a difference-making offensive line and even enough of a running game to take the heat off the QB. I like Mooney. I don't hate the idea of franchising Robinson. I really like Kmet. I like Montgomery. That's a start, at least. The problem with the OL now is that I don't think any of them are outright terrible. There's just a lot of D+ players on that line, so any of them can be replaced and wouldn't be missed.
  3. Read my definitions again. Do you agree with them? If not, then my definitions may be the issue. If you do agree with my definitions, then you know there's no pass option based on who the QB is reading. Mitch doesn't look anywhere near the LB or Wims. Not to mention an option route wouldn't be a fade in that instance, its almost always a slant or in -breaking route. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk I’m not a deep playbook guy, so I’ll trust you on this. I just don’t think I’ve ever once seen Trubisky make the right read on one of these
  4. Wims was very clearly making himself a passing option. I'm perfectly willing to accept that our OL was screwing it up and would have been a penalty.
  5. Pretty sure there was a pass option if you see it from a different angle. I'm not a deep Xs and Os guy for football but I am pretty sure I have never seen Trubisky make the correct read on one of these plays. Just by accident you'd think he would get it right once, but he won't.
  6. I agree that Foles isn't good. How often do you find a good QB in the offseason? Especially without investing massive resources into one? You're picking over everyone else's scraps no matter what.
  7. The whole point of trading for Foles was that he would be your bridge QB if/when you cut ties with Trubisky. I'd pass on extending Robinson because I hate contract extensions and am convinced all players over 28 are doomed to look like they chose the wrong cup in an Indiana Jones movie. I'm fine with drafting a WR high if need be.
  8. He's been bad all season. Not "bad by his standards." He's been a detrimental football player this season.
  9. 10. It’s the playoffs and a monumental upset would be fun. I understand your points and I am typically all about long term outlook but playoffs are so rare for the Bears, I’m not going to root against them or be apathetic about it I'm at like a 6. Winning is still more fun than not winning.
  10. On a scale of 1-10, how bad do Bears fans even want to win this game, considering 1) It would mean waiting another week before starting the offseason, which we all care about more anyway at this point and 2) It would mean getting pantsed by the Packers a third time
  11. As I mentioned in the other thread, I found a random Bears ball marker on the golf course today in Southern California. I'm convinced it's a talisman of some sort, a sign of what's about to happen this week. I just don't know what it means. It's not utterly impossible for the Bears to win this game. The Saints aren't as good as the Packers. The Bears already took them to OT once. The injury situation does look pretty bleak, tbh.
  12. As long as it's not one of those weird Nagy razzle-dazzles where you try to run a naked end around to the short side but don't send any blockers with it, I really don't care about individual playcalls. I'm not convinced there's always one magic solution to short yardage situations. I went golfing in SoCal this morning for the first time in a month since my kid's christmas break is finally over. I found a sweet Bears ball marker on the ground on the 4th, nobody around to claim it, so I did. I went on to shoot my worst round ever. It's an omen.
  13. It's a very, very mediocre defense. It had two good games in the entire second half of the season, and one of those was Jacksonville so it doesn't count. Mack and Hicks have lost a step. Jackson is completely washed up. Smith is pretty good at what he does, but what he does is clean up plays and pad his tackle stats beyond his actual impact. Quinn was worthless this year, maybe he'll be more healthy next year or maybe not. Fuller and Johnson are ok (although Johnson's a bit overrated by Bears fans). Trevathan is the guy who makes a TFL on 2nd-and-8 then gets targeted for an easy first down on 3rd-and-9. Eddie Jackson is completely washed up and actively bad at his job. I honestly can't remember one thing some dude named Gipson who is apparently our other starting safety did all season. You've already invested way too much in the defense as it is, you can't possibly justify committing a bunch more to it. Montgomery, Mooney and Kmet are what you build the team around going forward. I don’t know about very very mediocre. They were ranked 7th in the league in defensive DVOA going into this week, maybe there are better stats out there to evaluate defense, feel free to suggest. But your remarks on the individual players are valid, so maybe as a collective unit they hold their own but their individual pieces are not at the level were at 2 years ago. Still think the secondary is a strong unit but are often burdened by a lack of pass rush. Jaylon Johnson has potential but for every big play he’s made, he’s countered with a glaring mistake. But he’s a rookie and I like what I’ve seen With our season on the line, we just had to implement a gameplan based around the fact that we all knew our defense had little chance to stop our biggest rivals' offense. I don't feel comfortable calling the defense "good" under those circumstances.
  14. So you're mad that Nagy didn't institute a gameplan that he thought would be less likely to win but more instructive for the future, in a game that was win-and-in for the playoffs?

  16. In this game, only opening up the offense when you have to was 100% the right play. How so? The lost 35-16. They were within one score, in the 4th quarter, with the ball in Packers' territory. did you think that was likely going into the week? Once they fell behind and had to play real football, the score got out of hand. If they had tried to play more open from the beginning, they would have lost 53-16 instead.
  17. Repeated dives to the inside didn't cause them to give up 35 points, and the moment they tried to open it up Trubisky threw a terrible interception. Horrible take. 1) Johnson and Skrine were out, and this D has had issues coming up big all season. 2) opening up the offense Nagy Style isn't what I'm talking about. Nagy only opens up the offense when he has to, when he's down In this game, only opening up the offense when you have to was 100% the right play.
  18. It’s hurt them more than it’s helped them these last 3 seasons. Perhaps aggressive playcalling turns 2 of those FGs on 4th and 2 into TDs and they are up 3 instead of down 5. I’m not suggesting the bears start slinging it down the field the whole game but throwing 90% of your passes to within 3 yards of the LOS is not done because you are trying to slow the game down, it’s because you don’t trust your QB to throw anywhere farther even when the situation requires it. Same thing. You're trying to slow the game down because they have a HOF MVP QB and you have Mitch Trubisky. If the game hinges on which QB can throw more TDs, you lose.
  19. Then you need way better players How can you tell? Repeated Inside dives haven't worked since the 80's Repeated dives to the inside didn't cause them to give up 35 points, and the moment they tried to open it up Trubisky threw a terrible interception.
  20. horsefeathers that, I want to win Then you need way better players
  21. Today’s gameplay did not scream “we want to bring this QB back in free agency.”
  22. That last 4th and inches call will put a damper on what was a fairly decent game plan. That was ugly as a call. Then things spiraled in minutes, mainly because they had no choice but to try and let Mitch win it. I don't tend to get too caught up in the individual play calls. Every playcall looks terrible when it doesn't work and brilliant when it does. They went 4-for-5 on 4th and short. Sometimes the defense just wins.
  23. Nagy's game plan had them within a score, with the ball, inside the opponent's half of the field, in the fourth quarter, against a vastly superior team. If that's his ego, I want more of it.
  24. I know it cost him a fumble, but Kmet being basically impossible to tackle one-on-one is fun to watch.
  25. I mean, this is exactly who they are and exactly what they deserved out of a game against the best team in the NFC
