  1. Not even close You're delusional. No offense to you personally. The fact that the players choke every season has nothing to do with the organization. They put a great team on the field. I'll keep asking till I get an answer: What level of underperformance over what sample is needed to suspect an organizational effect? Surely we can study this statistically instead of just spewing dogma.
  2. In the regular season? Yes. Easy division title. Then in the playoffs, they'll get swept by a huge run differential with lots of unusual things like a good pitcher walking 7 or three botched grounders in one inning, and people will insist it was just a statistical fluke that it happened again.
  3. Trashing the field is embarrasing and ridiculous, but I hope they do it. This piece of trash team deserves to be embarrassed. I hope there's a fight in the dugout too. I want this to get as ugly and comical as possible. I don't want there to be one single thing any dorkwad fan can come along and say "at least..." about.
  4. This made me feel as if I was writing in a Yankees game thread. I wish it was. I'd settle for being a Cardinals fan too. If I had been born 30 miles or so southwest of where I was, the odds are I would have been. Grr.
  5. The Dodgers should forfeit the rest of their at-bats to minimize the chances of injury. They need to be healthy for the NLCS.
  6. I honestly wish they would contract this team so I wouldn't be able to feel any emotional attachment at all.
  7. He'd make my top-10 ballot. If the Cubs were being spotted 1.5 runs to begin every playoff game, they'd *still* be about to complete an eight-game losing streak.
  8. The Dodgers player just fielded a ball cleanly and threw it to another player on his team, who caught it without incident. Is that allowed?
  9. This is really going to do a number on the fan base of the Cubs. A lot of people will give up. It used to take decades to lose this many playoff games.
  10. Outscored 49-14 in their last 8 playoff games. Nothing to see here, there is no such thing as a franchise effect, move along, move along
  11. Perfectly ordinary random variation. Nothing to see here. Move along, move along.
  12. If Zambrano looks like good Zambrano all night, I will personally start a petition to remove the Caray statue and replace it with a Bender-sized one of Zambrano. (I'm watching on the net, so I'll be about 5 minutes behind unless I get frustrated and don't care if I'm live anymore. Until then, my comments will be generic but I *am* here :) ).
  13. Are you sure? What's bigbird saying? Lou will go to any lengths to avoid using his best pitcher in the playoffs. That way, he doesn't have to face a difficult decision about when to take them out and save them for later.
  14. Will 0-6 work? If it means the lineup turns over six times, I'll take it.
  15. It'd make me feel better if the Brewers fans weren't in "just happy to be here" mode, like I was in 1998.
  16. Don't recall if I said this in the thread before, but it's going to be really annoying to have people blame a bad outing on emotion tonight if Zambrano has one. As if he hadn't had a ton of bad outings lately with no pressure or reason for emotion.
  17. This. I forgot what it feels like to win a post-season game. http://www.fangraphs.com/tgraphs/20031011_Cubs_Marlins_0_score.png
  18. It's only a seven game losing streak in the playoffs. Don't be greedy. Losing by just one would be a nice change, at least.
  19. People need to get over this story. Yeah, it's been almost 24 hours.
  20. Longoria gets clutch pixie-dust for life.
  21. Oh look, a Chicago baseball team has an early two-run lead in their playoff game. Wonder if they'll hold it...
  22. you are talking about a network that doesn't do much baseball and is very different than the typical cubs broadcast. CSN and WGN purposefully show fans getting on their feet as part of their show, TBS isn't going to have that kind of bias. I can tentatively buy that.
  23. Where has the main talk been about the crowd, though? It's been mentioned because, false perception or real, it seemed odd to a lot of people. But the talks of what happened in game 1 (and what might happen next) still dominate.
  24. Good question, but I know that in the division-series era, the team with the better record has lost more playoff series than they've won.
