  1. When the GIDP happens, only one will be stranded technically.
  2. I get that, but why does it have to be center again? Why can't it be RW or something for once? It's like the Bears and QBs.
  3. White Sox. If it's going to be bad, I want it to be as bad as possible, so it's funnier in retrospect. If only the Cardinals were in as well.
  4. hell yeahhhhhhhhh although im pretty sure they'll disappoint me too They promise us not to worry about the center depth problems, the young kids will step it up. Never heard that one before? yeah that worries me. I didn't think Lang was such a bad player really, I don't really think they should have traded him with the depth issues we have. It wouldn't bother me so much if it was a new problem. But it's like Wood/Prior '05. I'm just tired of hearing the *same* plan every year.

  6. Yeah, no curses here. Because being cursed predicts that they'll play really, really well? There are no curses, but that argument makes no sense.
  7. This isn't even the goat curse. This is way worse than the goat curse. The goat curse is not making to the world series. It said nothing about getting the ever-loving crap beat out of you every single playoff game.
  8. We don't need to open the box to know that the cat is dead.
  9. Thankfully I was too lazy to go and buy a division champs shirt. Good call. To this day, I don't own a single piece of championship gear for any of my teams. I always wait to see what happens in the playoffs (I don't want a division champ gear for a national league champ season, for example), and what happens in the playoffs always kills my desire to buy any gear at all.
  10. Heck, the Titanic was like 2/3rds of the way across the Atlantic before it crashed, right? These Cubs are some freaky steampunk version of the Titanic that can't get out of the harbor without exploding.
  11. Would've been more so if they had done that for Game 1. By the time this game rolled around we had plenty of warning this would happen whereas Titanic came out of nowhere. "Captain, we've run these channels five times in the last 25 years, and five times we've ran into an iceberg and had a horrific tragedy. Should we be nervous it might happen a sixth?" The 2008 Cubs have nothing to do with any other Cubs team (except to some extent 2007). I'm kinda tired of hearing anything to the contrary. Keep predicting that, keep being wrong. Keep guaranteeing they'll win games, keep being wrong. Does it get old being wrong so often?
  12. I'm really tired of the Cubs getting compared to teams that have been to the World Series in the last decade or so.

  14. That's how I feel about the entire playoffs. Almost, I didn't quite manage to remove all emotional investment, but I came pretty close and I'm just a little annoyed instead of outright depressed. Yeah. I went into this excited but apprehensive until they could show me that this team could win at least a game in the postseason. Getting swept is ironically easier for to deal with since I looked at this so guardedly. Is "guardedly" even a word? I'm fairly certain it is. The downside of this approach is that I wouldn't be quite as euphoric if they did win it all. But since that will never, ever happen, I'm okay with that trade-off.
  15. Rich Harden is not to blame for this fiasco. That would've been his 1st run given up of the game if the rules could be called correctly on the field, for one thing. what rule? i must be too drunk to remember Martin at 3rd base. And when that play happened, two runs were awarded to the Dodgers and the Cubs had no chance whatsoever to recover.

  17. Boo. This is going to get really, really ugly with the fans really, really soon. When the choke jobs start coming in rapid succession instead of every 20 years, it's not quite so lovable.
  18. And that Harden wasn't starting game 1. These little stupidities add up.
  19. If the Cubs forfeited right here, would anyone be upset?
  20. My brain is fried. When was the last Cubs late-inning comeback (say, 7th or later) to win a playoff game?
  21. And how do we split that up into, say, upper-quartile and lower-quartile RHP? you made the claim, do it yourself I didn't make a claim. I brought up a theory. I didn't say "This is exactly how it is." And then I was just commenting that your stat didn't address the theory.
  22. Oh look, a favored team that won four playoff games before losing. Totally comparable. my point was that Lou was there manager too. and it was more a joke. Gotcha. This is some leftover angst from talking to my Cards-fan friend who couldn't wrap his head around 7 playoff appearances since 1990 (all of which saw at least two wins) isn't comparable to 4 with 3 sweeps and 1 epic heartbreak.
  23. And how do we split that up into, say, upper-quartile and lower-quartile RHP?
