  1. This discussion, including your post :), happens with every team with big expectations that starts slow. Some of them don't turn out all right. There's no guarantees, even though I agree it's the most likely scenario.
  2. We were sort of counting on our overall talent level to paper over the stupid things like that. It isn't working :(
  3. Despite the fact that they swept, the series with St. Louis involved close games all around.
  4. I thought the TSN announcers were pretty neutral during the Calgary series. They do the classic announcer thing where they slobber over whichever team is doing well. When the Hawks are doing well, Brent Seabrook was a Norris favorite. When the Flames were doing well, Conroy was an all-star.
  5. Yeah, that's understandable with a bunch of sweeps. But when two series end up going 6, doesn't it behoove them to stick with whatever they had planned already? I'm just hoping they don't play Saturday night. They don't really plan it at all. They don't have pre-set dates. They just have each series go when it's ready.
  6. These are very evenly matched teams with no clear matchup problems like the Hawks's speed on Calgary was. So given that, I think Vancouver has the edge with home-ice and a week of rest.
  7. Why? Cuz I'd rather face Vancouver than San Jose. I think most would. Ehhh.... Tired SJ team that we can exploit their weakness... or a Rested Canucks team who dominated us the last 2 games. The Canucks every time and twice on Sundays.
  8. Ducks are up 3-1 late in the second. Good chance we get Vancouver, which will be a very even matchup.
  9. Byflugien deserves that one. Nice. Bring on the Western Conference semifinals!
  10. Calgary has been taking a lot of risks for the last 30 minutes. That's what makes it look like the Hawks are playing back.
  11. There's your one. Khabibulin just isn't happy unless he gives up his one.
  12. Don't you ever say the S word again until it happens... that's almost as bad as the N-H word. It's Khabibulin. He's allergic to shutouts. We all know he'll blow it :)
  13. Khabibulin determined to earn the entire contract in one night. 50-save shutout, anyone?
  14. Kane with the vision to set up that play.
  15. Well, this plus someone knocking off Detroit before we get there.
  16. Calgary's throwing a lot of long shots at the net. Blackhawks had two or three awesome open-net chances where the shot went just wide. Overall, I'd say the flow of play was about even, but the Blackhawks have finishers.
  17. I'd say Calgary's lucky not to be down 3-4 to nothing. Calgary had a lot of long shots from the point, but the Blackhawks were creating real scoring chances and Kiprusoff looked like he was determined to give away an empty-netter.
  18. Khabibulin has made maybe one huge save, but he's faced a *lot* of long, hard shots and only given up one or two bad rebounds, which is nice. I'll take it.
  19. Kiprusoff almost gets burned by his flailing out of his crease again and gets away with it *again*. Sheesh. Hawks doing a good job of clearing their own zone, which is key.
  20. There you go. Calgary can't get over this "we are tough" mentality and take a dumb penalty, 1-0 Hawks.
  21. The experience argument has been done to death on the internet, but I still have trouble believing there is more pressure in the NHL playoffs than there is in the minors and college, knowing that scouts and execs are watching and your performance will determine whether you make hundreds of thousands playing at the highest level or you flame and out go work construction for the rest of your life.
  22. Is it that they are in this position for the first time, trying to close out a very experienced team? Cuz I can see that. Otherwise, everything leans the Hawks' way in this one. No, I'm not big on believing experience matters. It's ice, there's a puck, and you skate around trying to put it in the net. These guys have been doing it for two decades each, they all have plenty of experience. It's just the way Calgary has played in their home games in this series. They aren't the same team as when we play them in Chicago.
  23. Call me a pessimist, but I don't see how the Hawks win this game. Maybe with an insane night from Khabibulin.
  24. You should find a way to rewatch the first period. The first 10 minutes were epic. The Hawks were dominating like you wouldn't believe, could have easily have five or six goals, and held Calgary without a shot.
