  1. In the pantheon of business debacles, does this surpass the Bears and McGinnis?
  2. Of course we are. The original post said teams. But it didn't specify sports. So I guess the tag team titles would count, but not the singles.
  3. On that point, I definitely agree with you. I think parks and expansion are a good place to look when considering 1993.
  4. I don't see why PEDs would effect the performances of two completely different types of athletes in ways that perfectly balance out. In fact, I'd be shocked if they did.
  5. Watch the counterat- ... never mind.
  6. Testing is a joke across sports. It's better than not trying at all, but if you are a multi-millionaire athlete and you can't beat the league's drug testing, you aren't trying.
  7. If McGwire and Sosa don't get in eventually, the Hall has sealed its own irrelevance.
  8. I really don't know how Aaron gets a pass. Admitted PED use, suspicious career length at a time when we know steroids were starting to creep in.
  9. I think he means a fan of legitimate baseball, not necessarily a legitimate fan of baseball. (technically, the former should be "legitimate-baseball fan"
  10. If it was illegal and ingested for performance-enhancing purposes, I don't see why not. But then, I'd rather just see a lot of PEDs become legal. I think we'll see HGH get to that point some day.

  12. Here's the deal: Sports haven't been clean for decades and they certainly never will be now. With a million-dollar paycheck on the line, there are always going to be guys who are a few steps ahead of the tester. Always.
  13. So if the PED isn't as effective, it's okay? If anything, I prefer the modern-day roids, because at least for a few of them, the long-term health implications are actually not too bad, which is the only really good reason to ban them anyway. (Not to mention there was likely a lot more regular-old steroid use going on than we'll ever know for sure).
  14. I'm far less bothered by greenies than the cream and the clear. That's your call, but a PED is a PED is a PED. I'm not going to give some guys a pass because their's wasn't as effective.
  15. From that argument, why is it so important to keep the old field? If you are just there to watch the game, why do you need the ivy, the bleachers, etc.? Because the way the bleachers shape the dimensions of the field and the way the ivy affects the play of the ball IMO add to the game. Those other things provide a distraction to the game. So it's the dimensions of Wrigley that make it great?. Tiny foul space, wind having a huge affect day to day, deep lines and too-short power alleys. Those are not the elements of a park that shapes great baseball. The tall grass is nice, though.

  17. If Owens was all that great, I'd want him too.
  18. So if I change jobs and move, I'm cool again? Sweeeet...
  19. This. There are genuinely people out there who think Stallworth should get off because he was only a little over the limit and the guy he killed jaywalked in front of him.
  20. The charges were dropped, but as with most domestic abuse cases, we'll never know for sure. I believe the charity issues were a lot more substantial to just heresay, and I do care about the bailing. A lot more than I do for the PED use.
  21. To be fair, without the poetry and romanticism, baseball would be a small, niche sport. On its own, it's pretty boring.
  22. I'm trying to think of a worse hypothetical person than someone with all the worst qualities of NYers and Quebecois, and i'm drawing a blank.
