  1. You know this? Again, gun to my head, most any professional athlete I'll bet is a bad person, but really? Bailed on his team, rum bottle, used charity to funnel money to his family.
  2. Very well said. Two things I already knew: 1) Sammy Sosa was a great, exciting ballplayer at a time where it was more or less impossible to be that good without using. 2) Sammy Sosa is not a good person, for reasons entirely unrelated to possible PED use. I never asked him to be a good person, though, just a good ballplayer. And he did. Thanks, Sammy.
  3. It doesn't particularly bother me. The sport failed, everyone was doing it, move on. But I'm glad we don't have to hear that there was no evidence against him any more.
  4. Sources are trying to milk it. Sportswriters would give their left nut to release the whole list in one shot.
  5. I doubt many were arguing that they'd be surprised if it was true. People were arguing that there was no actual evidence against him, which there wasn't. Sure there was. Circumstantial evidence may not be proof, but it's evidence.
  6. I prefer it. Movies too. (yes, I know that surprises no one)
  7. That's how baseball almost always works. .250 hitters don't go 1-for-4 every day.
  8. I'm sure North Dakota's first championship is coming any day now. ;) What about NCAA hockey? They've won it haven't they? They've won 7, and I think either UND or NDSU has a couple D-II football titles. But living here for 9 months doesn't make me a fan of them. Actually, I'm a little farther from either campus than Chicago is from Cleveland or Cincinnati, I think.
  9. ITT: I get increasingly angry at people who act as if "X" championships is something to be disappointed in, where "X" is greater than 0.
  10. Innate attributes that caused the desired result (in this case, ratings). I'm not convinced that a lot of people couldn't have pulled in serious ratings by being the WSCR midday guy from the beginning. Possibly. But we'll never know and you can't assume they could because it never happened. We have to stick with what we know. True, but we don't have to make positive conclusions based on what we know. As is so often the case, we can't assume causation just because there's correlation. Assuming North caused the ratings is to me the same sort of thinking that leads to RBIs being a skill and Baker being baseball's best manager. (Not exactly the same, because we have actual evidence against the two baseball-related ones.) I'll let it go at that, because no one should be forced to defend Mike North :)

  12. I honestly don't have a strong opinion of him. I'm just taking issue with the "results mean talent" assumption. It's wrong as often as it's right.
  13. Doesnt work at work, any other feeds. Try myp2p.eu or p2p4u.net. That one's working at work for me, so I don't know what to tell ya. This team is so maddening. They shouldn't be able to play this well against Italy and choke to Costa Rica. Must be a matchup thing.
  14. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he was handed the midday slot from the very beginning of WSCR. It's possible that a lot of guys could have been pulling in ratings taking that slot for that station at that time.
  15. Would Dusty Baker have gotten a huge major-league contract if he wasn't delivering the wins? Sometimes, being in the right place when good things happen can convince people that you made the good things happen.
  16. http://atdhe.net/7534/watch-italy-vs-usa
  17. It is 1-0 on a penalty scored by Donovan, drawn by Altidore. Going to half now.
  18. Now bunker, bunker for all you're worth! (Bradley with a nice shot there)
  19. With no audio at work, I couldn't tell until they lined up for the penalty if they'd gotten the call or not.
  20. I don't see why it can't be, especially if he can never duplicate that success.
  21. Baseball is not a sport that lends itself to Olympic-style competition. I like the WBC, but you can't ruin the regular season for it.
  22. Not a Bulls fan. So... none. Not one freaking one. Wait. Super Bowl XX on my fourth birthday counts, though I didn't even know what football was then.
