  1. Pierre has been at least as bad as Jones. Then you have Neifi, Hairston, Mabry and Blanco who have all been awful all season long and are getting the bulk of the bench at bats. And every other bench "contributor" has been just as awful. Of guys with 15 or more at bats the Cubs have 7 with an OPS of 617 or lower (most are lower than 600). Yeah...I'm hoping for a turn-around from Pierre. And the bench is, as you say, dismal.
  2. I'll be taking Addison. I just got my seats down the right field line, first row!
  3. We need a bat that is a consistent threat to turn a game around. Without Lee, we don't have that player. Ramirez can be, but right now he isn't. While Barrett, Walker, Jones, and Murton all have some power...they are all 15-20 HR guys who can occasionally get ahold of one, but not someone that scares pitchers. Because of this, we have an offense that must string together hits to score runs. While no one except for Jones is a bad hitter, we just lack any kind of punch without Lee. Unfortunately, it's going to be June or later before anyone is willing to trade anything.
  4. I've met both Stone and Mercker. Stone was smug and arrogant. Mercker was very friendly. Advantage: Mercker. I'm glad Stone is gone.
  5. Vance, quick question. Are you anywhere close to Lake Charles? I have a friend who lives down there and will be there to visit him in June. No, I'm actually in the opposite part of the state from Lake Charles. Lake Charles is in the soutwest corner and Monroe is in the northeast corner. My aunt lives in Lake Charles, though I haven't been there in a couple of years. My mom and neice and grandmother went there this weekend though.
  6. My preference is still Abreu. I think we could get him with a package that includes Marshall or Guzman if they continue to improve at the major league level. But, I do think Sheff is one interesting player to keep an eye on.
  7. Bob doesn't start fights with our best reliever and make up lies. That's a plus in my book.
  8. They need to start losing soon so we can get them to trade us Dunn.
  9. That's an excellent point, but with the depth of Guzman, Miller, and Hill to combine with him, one of those could step in if he falters. I would think that a second-half line-up of: Pierre Walker Lee Sheffield Ramirez Murton Barrett Cedeno while admittedly right-handed would be a very tough line-up for a pitcher to face.
  10. Sheff is currently hitting 341/390/516. That would look outstanding in the number four spot.
  11. I'd strongly consider Williams for Guillen, though I'd like to set my sights a bit higher.
  12. I've done about 300 today alone. I'm up to 2500 since balloting began.
  13. Len > Chip Chip and Steve > Len and Bob Not even close. Give me Len and Bob anyday!
  14. What got me thinking about this is that the Cubs need another impact bat. Even when Lee comes back, there's no guarantee he'll have his power after suffering a wrist injury. We will need to trade for a bat and right field makes the most sense. Furthermore, if Wood and Prior come back healthy, we'll have the pitching depth to trade. The rotation could be Zambrano, Wood, Maddux, Prior and Marshall. Miller could have a spot with Guzman, Williams, and Hill providing additional depth. Ryu could also be in the picture. Most would think the Cubs would trade one of the young pitchers to get that bat, with Marshall likely being the top of most teams' wish list. A pitcher like Wood wouldn't interest a team rebuilding. On the other hand, if we swing a deal with a contender who is in need of pitching but has plenty of offense, then one of those teams could be interested in Wood or Prior. Of the two, I'd prefer to deal Wood just as I'd prefer to deal Wood over Marshall or Guzman. The Yankees are a match in that regard. There aren't too many contenders who could trade their rightfielder and not miss a beat.
  15. If Wood comes back healthy and effective, who would be in favor of this move? Yes, before anyone brings it up, I know Wood has a NTC. I also know he's not likely to waive it. Maybe if the Yankees would agree to pick up his option.... The Yankees have enough offense to be able to get by without Sheffield. Their weakness is pitching. Mussina is doing ok, but he's not guaranteed to continue doing so. Wang, Johnson, and Chacon have ERA's above 4.50. There's no guarantee that Wright or Pavano will be productive either. Salary wise, the trade is nearly a wash. It would be nice if we could get the Yankees to take by Jones' contract, but that isn't likely. This trade has all kinds of red flags, I know. Wood has a NTC and Sheff has said he would retire if traded. But, this could be a trade that solves problems of two teams.
  16. Just doing a little begging for more help. I'd rather get a jump on this early.
  17. Everyone please go cast 25 ASG votes for Matt Murton...NOW!
  18. Wow, 38 posts per day? You'll catch Jon and Raisin in no time. The trick is maintaining the pace during the offseason.
