  1. Take this with a grain of salt, though I think my source is fairly reliable. Supposedly Sheets was telling some friends that should come by and watch him "let it fly" today. They asked would he hit ninety on the gun, and Sheets laughed and said "you know it." But then a few minutes later, he said, "well, maybe not ninety yet, but I still think I'll look good." That might give us an idea of what to expect as to where Sheets stuff and velocity is right now. I've heard the workout will take about an hour, which means it's probably going to be over with before I can make it that way. But if I hear any more reports, I'll let you know.
  2. I'm going to head out to ULM but it won't be until about 1:45 or 2:00. I've heard he's throwing at 12:30, so I'm sure it's going to be done before I get there. I'll try to notice if I see anyone I recognize from the Cubs. I'd recognize Hendry or Bush if they come, but I'm not certain if they would be there or if they'd just send a scout that I wouldn't recognize anyway.
  3. I think it's more that we as a fan base have become more jaded. Things started to change around 2003. After that playoff run, we were no longer satisfied just to make the postseason. 2004 disappointed, but led to increased optimism. After 2006, we were more angry, but the hiring of Lou brought the optimism back in 2007. But I think the way 2007 and 2008 ended has left us with an empty feeling. It's hard to get excited about the regular season when we want more than just regular season wins, but a lot of fans feel jaded when it comes to what the team will do in the postseason. That being said, I'm sure those who attend the convention still get excited and pumped up. It may be that they no longer wanna run back here and share it.
  4. 35 points in this game already. Wow!
  5. Tim Hightower? Ha ha! You gotta be kidding me.
  6. Warp? Yeah, i think so.
  7. I know we have a Dolphins fan somewhere on the board.
  8. Isn't this the exact situation for which God created substitute teachers? Maybe so if I hadn't had to take two sick days this week.
  9. Sheets is supposed to be throwing around 12:30 on Tuesday. Too bad I'll be teaching then. I couldn't make it over until around 2 and he'll probably be done by then.
  10. A little off topic, but I'm watching the NFL network and they are showing the Saints first playoff win versus the Rams. My god, I had forgotten how horrible Dennis Miller was in an NFL broadcast booth. As bad as some of the teams are, I don't think anything past, present or future could be that bad again. I guess unless NBC puts Jay Leno in the booth.
  11. I'm looking for a shootout in the Superdome tomorrow. I also think Sharper will get a pick six off of Warner. The Saints will win big 35-21. I'm not sold on the Ravens. I think the Colts rout them as well. Give me the Colts 28, Ravens 13. The Cowboys game is the toughest for me. My heart says Cowboys. When I look at it all, I just don't know. The Vikings are a very talented team and will probably give the Cowboys fits. The Dallas defense has played four of the top five scoring offenses this year and none of those scored more than 21 points. New Orleans (rank 1, 31.9ppg) was held to 17 pts, Green Bay (#3, 28.8ppg)-20 pts, Chargers (#4, 28.4ppg)- 20pts, and Philly (#5, 26.8ppg)- 0 and 14 pts respectively. In fact the only team to score more than 24 points on the Cowboys all year has been the Giants who did it both times in week 2 and 13. That leads me to believe the Cowboys can hold the Vikings to 24 or under. If they do, then can Romo and the Cowboys offense top that total. This one is going to be close, so in a close one, I'll go with my hear, Cowboys 24, Vikings 23. In the last game, I'm taking the Chargers. The Jets have a great defense, but I think the Chargers are the best team in the league right now. They are my pick to make the Superbowl for the AFC. Give me Chargers 27-Jets 17.
  12. If the Cowboys win, it looks like I will have a ticket in New Orleans or Dallas for the NFC championship.
  13. I might have to nose around at ULM on that day. I'd like to see Ben throw.
  14. Supposedly Sheets is working out here in Monroe. I'm trying to find out where and when so I can go watch him pitch a bit. My guess is he's throwing out at ULM, but I don't know what times he is there.
  15. "New Owner- Same old ish"
  16. I'll take the Cowboys and I'm willing to accept help from our other resident Cowboy fans. My feelings are, at least in the first couple of rounds, the Cowboys will go BPA unless that player is a QB, RB, or TE.
  17. I've pimped his blog before, and I want to do it again. Bob Strum (he has a radio show on a local station in Dallas) has an awesome sports blog. It won't interest most non-Cowboys fans, but his take is usually spot on and well thought-out. Here's his take on the Cowboys playoff victory over the Eagles. I particularly noted this part. and probably my favorite in light of what I had heard from a lot of the national media before the game...
  18. I'm nervous about the Cowboys Vikings game, but I think our defense can hold them to under 23 points. We held the Saints to 17, the Eagles to 0 and 14, and the Chargers to 20. Unless they pick up an easy score or two from turn-overs, I think our defense will hold them in check. That being said, it's going to be imperative that our offense move the ball on drives and keep the Vikings offense off the field. Also, the Cowboys cannot kill drives with silly penalties or leave points on the field. I'm picking it Cowboys 24, Vikings 17...but I'm very nervous.
  19. I'm so pumped for the Cowboys game. If they win, there's a good chance I'll be able to go to the NFC championship game whether they host it or it's in New Orleans.
  20. That was a freaking awesome game! The Death Star was rocking and loud tonight. The Cowboys look like a team on a roll. I haven't had that much fun at a game in a long time!
  21. Just a question: Would any of you Bears fans be willing to gamble on TO? It's pretty clear he's not coming back to Buffalo and he might be the receiver the Bears need even if his skills are declining.
  22. I'm loving the way Bama is playing right now.
  23. Normally I'd root for the SEC in a bowl game, but I'm morally opposed to all things Alabama.
  24. Rent a car and stay in Albany. It's much cheaper. There will be tons of autograph signings on Saturday. Shop around, but be prepared to spend if you want the big guys. Get there early for the induction on Sunday. It gets crowded fast. Make sure you plan plenty of time at the Hall of Fame museum. It will be crowded but there's lots to see.
  25. I'm excited but very cautious, starting to feel like a Cubs type team. Just need to figure out where to watch the game on Saturday, its going to be a great atmosphere everywhere. You should get your ass to the stadium. I think there are some tix out there to be had.
