  1. According to the Miami Herald, the Angels are actively pursuing Cabrera. The main hold-up appears to be the inclusion of Adenhart in the deal. Link.
  2. I love how NY writers think the Yankees could get Santana without including any of Hughes, Chamberlain, or Kennedy. So, does that mean the Cubs could get him without including Hill, Pie, Marmol? But...but....but.... They may love our a-ball prospects!
  3. [expletive]! yep...word filter still in effect.
  4. I'd guess LSU only drops to, say, #4 with their loss today, with the Mizzou/Kansas winner #1, WVU #2, OSU #3. Georgia in at #5, with VT at 6, USC 7. No way Georgia will make the title game if they don't even play in the SEC championship, so then if LSU loses again, I wouldn't be surprised to see VT or USC jump Georgia to play in the title game. You don't think the Kansas-Missouri loser stays in the top-7, especially since it's Kansas and they only have one loss? The reaon Kansas could fall so far is that to may pollsters, their schedule is suspect. Tomorrow's game is their chance to prove they are for real, but if they lose to Mizzou, then many will not see them as a "true" one loss team in the same way that no one takes undefeated Hawaii seriously.
  5. And there's speculation the Angels aren't done yet. Link.
  6. It's going to be interesting to see what kind of deal Jones ends up with. The Rangers are another team I've heard are only interested in giving Jones a 1-year contract. Link.
  7. It appears Santana has countered the Twin proposal with a 7/126 proposal. LInk.
  8. Bad contracts + bad manager = fun times for the Reds
  9. :P We had nine victories this year. The previous four years we've had eight total. I think we're allowed to enjoy that a bit. Yeah...I was just teasing really.
  10. You have got to be kidding me. The first good year since I can remember, and we're not allowed a bit of swagger? We upset the number one team in the nation for chrissake. Nah...Kentucky upset the number one team in the country. You guys beat a team that was erroneously believed to be the number one team at the time.
  11. Depending on the cost, Cameron could be a nice addition.
  12. No. I have a feeling Hendry could be offering a similar package for Dan Uggla.
  13. This deal baffles me. I thought they threw stupid money at Matthews last season, now they do it again for someone who plays the same position. If they aren't used in CF, bot Matthews and Hunter have even less value. Looks like Moreno is collecting CFers like Jim collects second basemen.
  14. I think it would be easier for the Cubs to do the deal than it would be for the Dodgers or Angels. The Dodgers and Angels prospects rank higher than the ones the Cubs would be giving up. Hill is the best player in the deal and the Cubs would have to move to replace him somehow, but a line-up that includes Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, Cabrera (and I'm not uncertain that I wouldn't want that to be the 1-4 in the line-up) would be very, very potent. It would hurt, but I'd probably make the deal.
  15. We need a big bat.
  16. He played 3b last season, in his 723 games, he's played 100 in RF and 248 in LF. I don't think it's far-fetched to look at him as an option in the OF.
  17. Jayson Stark has an article on ESPN.com (Link) in which he discusses the price in players for some of the big names on the market. The Cubs aren't mentioned in the dealing for Cabrera (Angels, Dodgers, White Sox, and Giants), but here's what he says on what the Marlins are looking for in return. And for those wondering about Tejeda.... After reading the article, I wonder if the Cubs have the players to be in the Cabrera sweepstakes, but I'd love to make a run for him. Could a deal of Hill, Murton, Colvin, and Marmol be enough to get into the discussions?
  18. I'd be happy to have Andruw at 5/60 as well. He's still a decent defender in CF and if he'd shift to RF, he would be an excellent defender there as well. I'm not sure what his struggles were all about last season, but if he were reasonably priced, he'd be worth a shot. I don't think a Jones signing would cause a Marquis-like reaction. I figure it would be more like the reaction to Soriano. Some in favor, some against, and many not liking the number of years and dollars.
  19. Thought this blurb was fun... Link
  20. I've always found Bama fans a little annoying, but the ones I know around here have been quiet this week.
  21. Really? Close and Late- Soriano: 277/335/439 (career) 318/356/578 (2007) Hunter: 259/325/433 (career) 287/357/460 (2007) I don't know where you got the idea that Hunter was a better "clutch" hitter (if those exist), but it appears that they are quite similar with Soriano being a bit better both last year and for their careers.
  22. Then THIS DOOZY.... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Also....Jones was never an all-star, believe it or not folks. It appears the comparison was made by Orestes Destrade. If that's the case, it doesn't bother me. I've listened to Destrade on XM and I doubt he would notice the differences between Jacque and Fukudome.
  23. Link. I'm sure glad Ed Wade's the GM of the Astros.
  24. When I went, you could book a package through visitmesa.com and get your tickets with the hotel reservation.
  25. If that's all it would take to get Tejeda, I'd do it without thinking twice.
