  1. have it frozen on Tivo right now. he's out. Well unfortunately for the umps, they don't have 10 minutes to analyze the play on Tivo before making the call. After a stop like that, Fontenot should have gotten the benefit of the doubt. :D
  2. Lou is great. He will have everyone guessing, and then put DeRosa out there.
  3. A lot of people seem to think hes finally leaving. Please let this be the case. I would prefer to keep the 2006 version of Jacque Jones, but that guy seems long gone.
  4. This is classic. Nothing like overreacting without having all the facts straight. Hawk and DJ are clueless.
  5. It was strange that Lou went to Koyie Hill to pinch run in the 9th instead of Jacque. White Sox announcers were commenting that Jones much be pretty far down on Lou's list.
  6. waiting for proof He won a WS?
  7. Ask and ye receive: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=569 Thanks :D It looks like the Cubs may have had Barrett during the best years of his career. Not a bad time to sell.
  8. Yea giving away one of the top offensive catchers ='s free Barrett had a couple good years offensively for the Cubs, but this year is much more in line with his career numbers. Not sure that he would qualify as on of the top offensive catchers this year. Yea this years 2 months of play completly outweigh his previous 3 years production. Never mind the fact he was starting to hit in the month of June. Did you completely miss the part about this year being in line with his career numbers? No doubt, I'm glad the Cubs got three productive years out of him. But career #'s and this year's numbers don't qualify him as a top offensive catcher. Nevermind the fact the Cubs probably had him during his prime production years. Would be interesting if someone had statistics to show what is the average decline(or increase) of offensive production for a catcher over 30 years old.

  10. Why isn't ---- Cubs trading Barrett to the Padres --- listed as a choice?
  11. not in the lineup... OF is (left to right) hoffpauir, walker, coats. Wonder why Murton isn't playing; I think he has to be in the lineup every day. Daryle Ward is playing first for the I-Cobs tonight, btw, and Soto is back at catcher. My guess is that Murton has decided to take his whole 72 hours available to him to get to the minors-which should mean that he should be in there tomorrow night. dumb move on his part. His production has sucked and if he sulks about the move, then he'll been worse off. Heck, in 110 AB he has 1 hr and 8 rbi, Fonentot in 30 ab's has 2 hrs and 9 rbi. My guess, we won't see Matt before Sept callups. The three days may do him some good. It's pretty obvious that there were some issues between him and the coaching staff, and a couple days to clear his head and simply get away from the situation might help him report to Iowa ready to get his hitting corrected (and hopefully he'll be hitting right away) I don't think it will take more than a few weeks to come back up and probably again be in a 50/50 share of playing time with Floyd. I'm pretty sure he isn't going to impress anyone by taking the whole time to report to Iowa. Especially after how everyone was gushing over Pie's attitude when he was worried about missing one AAA game after getting sent down. I would love to see Murton get some AB's and force his way back onto the roster.
  12. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070614cubsbits,1,6116993.story?coll=cs-home-headlines.com I'm sure the Cardinals are willing to spend $100M+ for Zambrano.
  13. Where is Murton? I thought he was at Iowa?
  14. He's 18 all season long, turns 19 in October. His numbers look pretty decent for pitching as an 18 yr old in Peoria. Any one got the scouting report on him? Is he a power pitcher? Finesse?
  15. Fontenot hasn't come out of nowhere. His minor league numbers have always indicated he could hit. Why it took the Cubs this long to bring him up is a mystery to me. Fontenot has come out of nowhere. There are plenty of minor league players that hit well and still aren't considered good prospects or able to adjust to the majors. I don't seem to recall Fontenot in the top 10 of any prospect lists recently or reading in any reputable publication that he was MLB material (Certainly he has had his supporters on this board, and Kudos to them). Great to see him having a break out year, and taking advantage of his opportunities.
  16. Fontenot seems to have come out of nowhere. He can hit, has a solid glove, and seems to play like he knows what he is doing. With some roster decisions coming up soon, Lou is going to be faced with some tough decisions. I can't see the Cubs justifying sending Theriot or Fontenot down. Maybe it is time to admit a mistake with Izturis and move on.
  17. Barrett is terrible. How many games has he cost the team this year already? Get a real catcher already.
  18. If he liked Ballplayers he would play Murton insteas of Jones and Floyd. He's as old school as we thought. And just becuase he's better than Dusty doesn't make him good. Is Murton hurt? Looking at all of Lou's moves so far this year, the whole Murton situation seems out of place. Murton is the type of ballplayer that you would think Lou would love. My guess is that there is more behind the scenes than we are privy to.
  19. Is it just perception or have the younger players actually performed better this year under Lou? It seems that nearly everytime Hendry has called up one of the youngsters, Lou has picked his spots and let them get playing time. Pagan, Fontenot, Hill (Defensively), Pie, Theriot, Marshall, Marmol, Guzman (for a short time). With Dusty, these guys would have gotten splinters on the bench.
  20. Did he mention NSBB or did he Sullivan us? No. He said northsidebaseball. It was great. Nice:)
  21. does this trade rumor have legs or is it just wishful thinking?
  22. PeoriaChiefs39 made the lastest article on Chicagosports.com. :D http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070606cubsbits,1,6641282.story?coll=cs-home-headlines Sullivan doesn't even give NSBB a plug, but thanks to Sean's dad for giving all of us on NSBB the scoop first. Everyone is pulling for Sean to be successful with the Cubs.
  23. If ARAM goes to the DL, any chance that EPATT is called up to man 2b? It would be sickening to see Izturis starting everyday for a couple of weeks.
  24. Victor was acquired by Jim Duquette, before Omar was hired. That was a terrific trade for the Mets.
