  1. Dempster was awful last year. Grace has a valid point, unless you believe that somehow Dempster got better over the offseason.
  2. Why all the Todd Walker love? The Cubs already have two, all bat, no glove Lefties in Ward and Floyd, no need to add another one.
  3. Agreed. There's a long season ahead. If he's legitimately injured, he should be healthy enough to contribute at some point. I still think this situation is fishy; Hendry and Piniella spoke with him a couple of days ago. I think they convinced him that needs more innings (they would also like to save him from the usually lower temps of early April). Wood going on the DL is the perfect answer to the short term bullpen issue. He also refused to speak to the media... Guzman is going to make the 25 man roster. I don't think there is any need to concoct a fake injury to justify a stint on teh DL to start the season. They can legitimately say he was hindered by his earlier injury and needs time to rehab. Not to mention the fact that pitching in a Cactus league game changed the date they can make the DL placement effective. If they truly wanted him to go on the DL they would have had him rehabing in minor league camp, so they could have called him up earlier if needed.
  4. I wouldn't say his stuff has looked "really, really good". He throws hard and that's about it. When they hit him, they hit him pretty hard.
  5. He has been changing speeds well, throwing a good curve and getting some strange swings. He is doing a nice job with his limited velocity.
  6. I saw Miller's last pitch of the inning was 94mph... Is that accurate, or is the gun still fast??
  7. Looks like that gun is off by +3 mph. are you sure that the 95 wasn't the ball off the bat? His FB to strike out the guy to end the inning was 91.
  8. As great as the 93 mph readings are, his struggles with the offspeed pitches are VERY worrisome. :| Baby Steps Is he throwing a slider today? Or is the movement on his 86MPH FB that good?
  9. Wow!! Where has this Mark Prior been all spring?
  10. I think the gun is messed up. Now it says Maddux is throwing 87-88.
  11. So he failed his physical and then they still signed him?
  12. The announcers for today's game were stating that he may have a sore shoulder. Don't know if that has anything to do with his performance this spring. I thought we had been hearing reports about an increase in velocity, but through the second inning he was only pitching in the mid/high 80's with very few 90 pitches. (According to the FSN).
  13. The problem is that Miller outpitched Guzman last year and is outpitching Guzman so far in Spring Training. I think we are all a little too concerned about velocity or youth.
  14. Not that I'm complaining, but is Angel Pagan with the team anymore? Seems like he is definitely not slated to make the opening day roster.
  15. The bad thing about the Cotts situation is that Hendry would never Release him or send him to the minors because it would make him look bad for making the trade. I know it is only spring training, but the way he is pitching he does not deserve a spot on the team.
  16. The scuttlebutt was that he was going to start the season in Daytona. If that is the case, he must have shown up ready to pitch this year.
  17. Didn't the Cubs draft Micah Owings in a later round a couple of years ago? Just checked out his line, looks like he was pretty impressive today.
  18. Is Cotts guaranteed a spot on the team? There is no way he has earned one on merit.
  19. It's not great at this point, but "fallen apart" is too strong. He's got to straighten things out mechanically, and that process has him a bit frustrated. Bruce, did you forget to add in your blurb that Rothschild fixed Prior's mechanics and that Mark was throwing 94-96 with perfect mechanics? :D
  20. I'll put it here, too. You could have checked the front page of the site for more timely and accurate information. :D Tim your notes in the minor league forum said Shark was sent to Daytona. Was he sent to high A or AA?
  21. Well I guess that makes it official. With that type of analysis, its hard to imagine why everyone isn't just merely agreeing with you?
  22. How many innings is Shark pitching today?
  23. I believe you are actually talking about Alex Cora, who hit a home run on pitch number 18 against the Cubs. Wow, I really screwed that one up, eh? :D What year was that? It sounds strikingly familiar and is probably the at bat I was referring to. Thought for sure it was Izturis. I would have bet money that it was izturis, also. I seem to remember the game taking place in LA.
