  1. Instead of adding to the irrelevent post counts in this thread you could have just as easily sent a pm to a mod. Exactly how long did it take you to find the date of the posts? 10 seconds. You must have a very busy life. Oh, the irony.
  2. No they aren't. They are justifying that he's barely playing at all. Again, complaining about a lack of playing time isn't complaining about a not getting all the playing time. Just like complaining about a poor pitching performance isn't complaing about a lack of a perfect game. There were at least 8-10 people complaining Friday night about Murton not playing in only his 2nd game that he didn't start. This thread was started when Murton had started 4 out of the 6 games decrying his lack of playing time. Has anyone explained who the "lesser player" is that Murton is getting benched for? Floyd may be older, but if he continues to produce like this for the rest of the season I don't see a problem with him getting half of the playing time.
  3. Yes, I bet if Matt Murton had pitched the Astros would have been lucky to get a hit.
  4. I pretty much agree with that. I just found it alarming that they are going to skip him now. Either put him out there as your 5th starter and see what he can do, or put someone else in there. Skipping him is just delaying the inevitable. I dont' have a problem with letting the top 4 pitchers in the rotation pitch whenever available. The schedule allows the Cubs to skip the worst pitcher on the staff without adding an undue burden on the rest of the staff. That is smart baseball.
  5. Every player that makes it to ST has some degree of talent. So without relying on how a player performs in a game environment, how do you propose that a team select players to make the ballclub? Do you base it on how fast a pitcher throws? How fast a runner runs? How well a player fields? Past performance? How far a player hits the ball? A player could have all the talent in the world and still be a horrible ballplayer. Is this serious? I was going to ask you the same thing about your statement, but I figured you wouldn't have taken the time to post it if you weren't.

  7. Wuertz is a good pitcher, and your point would hold water if the Cubs had an unlimited supply of him. But Wuertz is on the Cubs right now. They wouldn't be replacing Howry by Wuertz, they'd be replacing him by Novoa or Marmol, and there is a big difference between those guys and Howry. my point is that you can always find someone to do league average bullpen work for cheap. there's no need to invest $12 million on a guy to do slightly above league average bullpen work. they may not be as good as wuertz, but someone can get the job done. and you would be replacing howry with wuertz...at least their roles. wuertz would become the primary rh set up guy. you'd then be replacing wuertz (whose role is less important) with guzman. Why are you making it sound as if Guzman is a decent option? Granted its early, but he has been horrible. I'd rather take a chance on a BP guy that has had good seasons in the past than a young pitcher who has done nothing but get lit up at the big league level. Sure Guzman could improve, but he will have to make some big improvements to be servicable.
  8. He made so much of a statement they put him in relief. Here is hoping that Pawelek can some how get it together and become the pitcher we thought he would be.
  9. I don't think they expect Prior to come back. He hasn't even pitched in extended ST yet. The bad thing about Miller's day today, was that even his outs were hit hard. He wasn't fooling anybody. Was I the only one who wished Lou would have had a quicker hook? In the 2nd inning is was obvious that Miller was horrible, Cotts could have been stretched out for a few innings.
  10. Cedeno Miller Derosa Eyre i wont rag on derosa too much because he has been great overall the past few games but everyone else has sucked, especially eyre Barrett didn't bring his A game either. I would love to see him learn how to block a few balls in the dirt, and stop making simple mistakes (like not catching a ball right to his glove) at crucial points in the game.
  11. Guzman has to get it together. He was not very good as a starter in Spring Training, and the games I saw him he was getting hit pretty hard. I would love for him to get it together, but I'm skeptical.
  12. I wouldn't call his defensive problems overblown. He is pretty terrible behind the plate. Fortunately, his offensive production exceeds any defensive liability.
  13. Latest on Prior from the Suntimes: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/331433,CST-SPT-cubnt07.article What is the deal with Prior this year? ](*,) The more this drags out I find it hard to believe that there isn't some sore of injury that Prior or the Cubs are not disclosing.
  14. That sidearm strike out on Fielder was a thing of beauty. I wonder if that was Rothschild's idea, similar to convincing Glendon to throw it.
  15. Don't they usually brag about fastball speed?
  16. Game Notes say that Murton was held out as emergency catcher...but i could have sworn i saw Blanco in the dugout at one point during the game. Part of the joy in carrying 12 pitchers is the dilemma it can create in the field late in a ballgame where many of the extras are used or are not available b/c of injury or major cases involving intl smuggling, conspiracy, and money laundering. Hopefully we can return to normalcy and 11 pitchers soon. Nice sacrifice by the Riot. If Dusty had called that, everyone would have been screaming on this board. But oh well, nice move Lou. PS- thought Thom and Brantley did a good job working together, although it sounded like Brant may have had a few cocktails during the pre-game. Blanco was in the dugout (or his twin cousin). Was nice to hear Thom call a game again. I miss him and Steve Stone calling games together.
  17. What does Sammy Sosa have to do with a minor league thread? :)
  18. I thought one of the requirements for going on the DL, was that the player was injured? Does Prior have some sort of injury or is the problem his stamina? Also, if Prior were so healthy when he came to camp, why in the world are the Cubs handling him as if he were about to fall apart?
  19. I don't see the point of trading for a 33 year old veteran to back up your middle IF in AAA. :?
  20. I like how they word the press release. "Will be starting the season" in Daytona sure sounds like they don't expect him to be there all year. I'm pretty excited over Shark's potential.
  21. We'll just have to beat it out of you then. That or scour Nate's posts for info and any inadvertantly dropped hints. :D we have a few surprises....and a few guys who were not on our team when i left on Tuesday. We have 6 guys who saw at least 1 inning in peoria in 2006 and 1 who saw action in 2005....And we have more foreign born pitchers than we have American born pitchers....thats all you are getting out of me! Karen- Brandon is there. he is lifting and rehabbing non-stop. Nate, thanks for the great report. Did you see Suarez pitch in AZ? If you did, what can you tell us about his velocity, pitches, etc.
  22. I'm sure that Sullivan's spin on it makes it seem worse than it actually was. I don't think Prior being upset is such a bad thing. I would be more worried if he seemed resigned to the fact he belonged in AAA.
  23. Has there been an explanation in the media as to why Prior was unable to take a full workload this spring? Or why it is taking him extra time to get prepared? Its just odd to see him stating before ST and in every article in ST that he feels 100%, but yet the Cubs are restricting his innings, etc.
