  1. you gotta be kidding me. zambrano, who is cheap, awesome and under the cubs control for a few more years PLUS the cubs top prospect for a guy who finished between dellucci and sweeney in OPS? Was this a new article or was this from one of his past articles?
  2. Guh? I sure would love to hear what Hendry thinks is a good trade that involves Prior. Well. He thinks J. Jones is a good FA signing, so who knows at this point. I don't even want to think about this happening. I'm going to act like I never read your post.
  3. Oh how I missed the Horny Wagon.
  4. Looks like the Padres are giving him a chance. Rotoworld:
  5. Come on. How much older can this team get? Does Sabean not believe in having players under the age of 38 on that team? Boy Dusty would be a perfect fit back in San Fran now. He'd be in high heaven.
  6. So, anything new on the Astros rumors today?
  7. I don't see why its nauseating. People aren't just making up stats. They are using stats that have been shown to be far more reliable describers and predictors of production than tired old cliches. And it's not true that people are relying exclusively on them. People have seen Jones play. He's a known commodity. I don't think it's "nauseating." But the team that won the World Series this year supposedly had shaky stats up & down the roster. At least, that's what plenty of people on this board tried to sell us. Yet, they still took home the prize. So then, perhaps naked statistics don't tell the whole story of a ballplayer or a team. I do agree they are an excellent tool for evaluation and there's a good reason why people rely on them. Sometimes though, teams & players come along that just defy logic. The White Sox had amazing pitching last season and in the playoffs. They almost blew their 15 game lead in the division though because the pitching was struggling and the offense couldn't pick up the slack
  8. mmm....moldy cake. This shouldn't come as a surprise. Hendry recently talked about how Hairston, Neifi, and Cedeno were all viable options at 2nd base. He made no mention of Walker what-so-ever. Walker must have slept with Dusty's wife or something because I really don't understand why he's fallen from graces so quickly.
  9. Yeah, but one member said the thread should be locked b/c of its optimisim and another called it "idiotic". I don't think eitherof those reactions fall within the spirit of this bd. Where did I say it should be locked because of it's optimism? We already had a Jones thread going and I didn't understand why we needed another one, especially one where it said Jones was a good signing because "he was high energy and pumped up the team". I have no problem with people having optimism, but throw out some numbers to support your claim. Don't just tell me he's a good signing because he's high energy and pumps up the team, and that he runs the bases well. That doesn't help this team. High OBP is what this team needed, not a guy who's good at scoring from first base on a double.
  10. It looks like Damon is getting a no trade clause as well: Newsday The Yankees don't ever seem to learn.
  11. I worry that if we did sign Byrnes Dusty would play him over Murton.
  12. I could buy Jones having a down year because of external factors, these things happen. However, there's no discernable difference in production between the rest of his career and '05. He was performing the same as he always was. Not to nitpick a generally good post, but Jones' 2005 numbers were significantly below his career averages pretty well across the board, aside from XBH. His OPS was about 30 points below his career norm. His 2004 OPS was worse than his 2005. So he's had 2 horrible years in a row. How is this explained? The Metrodome. He's played his entire career in the Metrodome. Well damn, then this really is a bad signing, huh? Just for kicks, here is Jones' 3-year day game splits: .245 .292 .390 .682 Pretty sweet, huh? :puke:

  15. What the f uck is your problem? Did you read one god damn paragraph? I don't care what the hell happens to me at this forum, my thread or my post. I don't appreciate this comment, read before replying. This thread shouldn't be locked, this post should be deleted. Why didn't you compare Burnitz vs. Jones? Burnitz vs. Jones comparison the past 3 years: Burnitz's stats last 3 years: .274 .344 .581 .925 .283 .356 .559 .915 .258 .322 .435 .757 Jones: .304 .333 .464 .797 .254 .315 .427 .742 .249 .319 .438 .757 Which one looks better to you? Pretty obvious. Jones might get better late in the game, but .217 with RISP and 2 outs? Or .256 with runners on base? That's not good at all. And who cares if he is a big energy guy if he's going to post an OBP in the Neifi range. I stick by my statement. Even if he is a terrible option, if he hits a lot of HRs, and we have solid pitching, we can win the WS. Look across town...Or if they have a really good defense, perhaps with a front four that really gets to the QB... Last year we were 2nd in the NL in homeruns. A lot of good that did us. And Jones will probably give you the same amount of homeruns Corey Patterson would give you in a given year. Solid pitching is a different story.

  17. [applause] But the dude hustles and pumps up the team...
  18. I don't even know where to start. Clutch? A leader? How about the fact that he batted .249 with an OBP of .319 last year. That's Neifiesque. And how come you don't compare Burnitz's numbers to Jone's? Is it maybe becuase Burnitz stacks up better than Jones. To say that Jones runs the bases better and is a better defender is ridiculous. And I don't care how much energy Jones bring if he can't hit for crap. This thread is ridiculous and probably should be locked.
  19. Oh, it's been mentioned. Just makes it that much sweeter. :puke:
  20. You may want to edit out the feces reference. Nah. I think it's good as is.
  21. Any chance they inked him to take over SS so they could peddle Miggy to the Cubs? Yeah, I hear he turns a mean double play.
  22. Conine signed with the Orioles. Link
