  1. I get both Cards and Cubs radio broadcasts down here in southern Indiana and there is no way Cubs broadcasts are less entertaining than Cardinals. Listening to those guys is like listening to paint dry. I would concede that they are more technically sound, in that you always know what the count and score is but no way are they more entertaining. (although Pat does a good job of painting a visual when Ron lets him)
  2. I saw that yesterday and was a little surprised. It seems as if Lawton and Gerut would have very different roles with this team. Gerut seems more like a pickup mainly for the future, who can also help out off the bench and with some spot starts. You have to imagine that Lawton would have been plugged into LF and leadoff right away. Maybe Hendry wanted Dusty to plug Gerut into LF against righties right away... and Dusty had other ideas.
  3. Dusty should seriously be fired for this game... yes this one game has been managed so poorly that he should be fired for it... nevermind the other stupid things he routinely does.
  4. I think you have to blame some of the worst in-game managing you will ever see if we lose this one.
  5. Gross Misuse of Z. And why did Dusty even send batters to the plate the bottom of the 7th? Z and then macias... instead of a pinch hitter... wow. Might as well not sent anyone out there.
  6. I hate you Dusty. No really, I hate you. What a joke... do you think we can organize a boycott until Murton gets at least half the starts?
  7. Did you miss my point? It's obvious you did..... Thanks for the great insight!! :? I think you missed his... which is... who cares about stupid Sox fans. Don't pay attention to them.
  8. I'm not disagreeing with you, but if you pitchout 1-1, it almost guarantees the squeeze at 2-1 unless you are trying to walk him. Actually that would not have been a bad move, to walk him. He meant nothing as a runner, and would have set up a double play. That's true, but that also brings you one step closer to Pujols and Edmonds without getting an out. It's basically putting all your eggs in one basket that you get the DP ball. The odds that Pujols(Or Edmonds if you walk Pujols) beats you with 2 outs is higher than Eckstein beating you with 1 IMO. I almost forgot, Welcome to the Forum!! The guy who would have came up was a 93 year old Rookie. And Edmonds and Pujols didnt' look great that whole night. What really would have been putting all of your eggs in one basket is not pitching out there, because you are allowing the attempted suicide squeeze and if you don't stop it, its over.
  9. Does somewhere in the article include the statement: "My analysis of all of the GMs is... they are all at least 3x better than me"? Because that's the only relevant thing Phillips would have to say.
  10. Wow, someone is getting banned. I agree with Mizzou... he was on the OTHER TEAM last night... the chants obviously effected him, so chant away. Now if we could have just told Jody to keep the bat on his shoulder on a 2-0 ball 3 pitch we could have really capitalized. But I do think the straight Hawkins chant was further from the line than the Hawkins Sucks one.
  11. Cubs.com now has Tomko starting against Z on Wednesday instead of Rueter. So, I imagine Hollandsworth will get a start in the next two games.
  12. It's called supply and demand... this detemines the relative value of a player and therefore the asking price. The Cubs having one more reliever with good stuff (whether Wood will or won't is another discussion), at least from the outside looks to decrease their demand... thus lowering the asking price. The reverse would be true if the Cubs were obviously short of a 'pen help.
  13. I like this move. Not because I think that Wood will be effective from the 'pen (I don't... I agree with others that Williamson is going to provide more for the 'pen than Wood), but because this team and fans now no longer can hold out hope that Wood will be OK and come back to his 2003 form and dominate and help carry us to the playoffs. They now know they have to get it done without him.
  14. Burnett would be a great short and long term solution. I just don't think its possible for the Cubs to get him to fit either. I had heard whoever traded for him would want to get him signed to an extension, thus lessening the chance of the Cubs getting him in the off-season for the long term. And I just don't think the Cubs could/would want to put together the package the Marlins are looking for him.
  15. I appreciate the compiling of these stats and sharing them with us. However, I think it may be more useful to edit out players' stats who have little to no chance of playing in the current days game. Especially if you are going to do the Prediction based on matchup, because it can skew the overall numbers greatly. For example, Sanchez, Rueter, Fopert, Fassero and Tomko are not going to face Maddux today. (I do understand keeping someone like Bonds' stats in, however.) But hey its your tables do it how you want, only a suggestion.
  16. After those 3 bad losses in a row, I am waiting for the Cubs to go on another run like the 8 wins in 9 games following the losing streak before I get even remotely excited about this team again.
  17. One of my buddies said he heard on the radio (didn't give the source - but I do live near Rolen's hometown which is also in Cards' country so I generally trust info like this on Rolen) that Rolen might be done for the season or at best be back at the end of August. Not surprising with Rolen, hoping for him to stay healthy is like thinking Kerry Wood will pitch 200 innings. Joe Morgan was talking before the game yesterday about how it wouldn't be a surprise if Rolen wouldn't be seen in the Cards' lineup until spring training next year. OK you can disregard my post then because if Joe Morgan said it then the opposite is going to happen. Rolen will be back 15 days from Friday. Kinda like the whole sac bunt discussion last night. (man, I hate that guy)
  18. Those guys are idiots. My favorite thread was the anti-Lance Armstrong one which was without any support.

  20. Assuming Hill and Jerome cannot be in the same rotation is impliedly counting on Kerry Wood to consistently pitch. An error I don't plan to make till he throws 200+ IP in a season again.
  21. That's what the announcers plan on telling us today... arg! When does football season start.
  22. Why no pitch out? I was just listening on the radio but Pat and Ron mentioned the possiiblility of a squeeze. It seemed obvious... but then again I was only listening on the radio.
  23. Unfortunately, that's about the only category we are winning in this matchup.
  24. All of the articles I've read this morning indicate he may just miss one start. He pretty much refused an MRI, resigned to the fact that the discomfort was the same that he felt earlier when no structural damage was present. Perhaps an edit in the thread title is in order. It says 15 day DL, because we have all seen this before. It starts with just one missed start and turns into a 45 day stint on the DL "recovering" then 3 minor league starts. He should be back in September.
  25. How did it happen? What did Novoa do?
