  1. you could always just re-size it with a picture editor
  2. Nomar would have none of this back when the Red Sox were talking to A-Rod. The theory was to move Nomar to 2ed or 3rd to allow A-Rod to play short. Moving Nomar to the outfield wasn't mentioned back then, so I cannot comment on what the gossip, boards, radio etc. had to say about that. I doubt it would go over well with Nomar though. He doesn't seem to be that much of a team player. That may have been true in Boston (I don't really trust the media, and his teammates seemed to like him), but Nomar's in a different situation now. Unless he gets unbelievably hot in the next 2 months, he's not going to have a lot of teams looking to give him a big contract (or maybe even a small contract). He may be open to a move to 2B or the OF now. On the other hand, I'm not sure I don't want him at SS. Would have been nice to see Cedeno get a real chance to face ML pitching while Nomar was out so we'd know what he could do. But if we'd have done that, Neifi couldn't have "saved" the team's claim to 4th place in the NL Central. It wasn't just the media though. (I don't trust them either.) Call in talk shows, comments made by other players (especially after he left), boards like this etc. made similar comments. I do agree that his situation has changed. I think he will have to prove himself all over again in a way. He's injury prone and a risky investment (at any position), so no team is going to pony up like they would have had he been a free agent say, 3 or 4 years ago. As a Cub fan, I was thrilled when he went to Chicago. I do hope he stays here and can be healthy. Wrigley is a great ballpark for him. I just hope he can keep his ego out and help the team. Gee those are some pretty credible sources you point out. It must be true, Nomar is a me-first horrible teammate. This is why many people here no longer care for the sawks. They jump on every player that leaves the team. see also Walker, Todd.
  3. I dont know.. but I will say welcome to the board!
  4. What is the meaning of this "happy" you speak of? It does not make sense in the context of thinking about a Cubs game.
  5. What does Mark Prior picking his nose have to do with anything? Or Jon Lieber digging a sunflower seed shell out of his teeth with his tongue? I thought it was reminding us of the good ol days of Don Baylor... or even digging up the ol' Juan Cruz debate to distract us.
  6. This thread certainly did not get derailed did it?
  7. Poor guy has seen all of one pitch in the majors so far. At least he has an interesting story to tell his grandkids. At least maybe someone can ease his pain in a movie ala Moonlight Graham.
  8. I thought the Phillies' new stadium was pitcher friendly. Am I wrong? You are. It's almost as homer-friendly as Great American or Coors I think I was confusing Citzens with Petco. Its hard to keep track of all these new stadiums.
  9. Dusty will take blame the same day our President claims a mistake bigger than trading Sammy Sosa. See also the day pigs fly, the day it snows in hell, etc.
  10. I wholehearedly agree here. Dusty is probably doing what is right for Nomar in this situation. He probably can't play everyday when he gets back (maybe even for the rest of the year). And this is coming from someone who wants Dusty out of town. Let's not jump on EVERYTHING Dusty does just because it is something that looks like we can get on him for. The valid points are lost that way.

  12. This is a well thought out, logical idea.... Dusty will never do it. Seriously though, it is a good idea but I would assume a lot of managers wouldn't do it because of the inflexibility that it would provide and because its something different and most manager's don't go outside of the "book."
  13. Thanks for the medical analysis... are you talking about roids or taking a cold shower?
  14. I don't see how steroids can make that big of a difference in your game from one month off them to one month on them. In someone younger, I would agree. But Palmeiro is getting ancient in baseball years. I doubt he had much left in the tank without juicing. Which, IMO, is the biggest concern over steroids in baseball --- it prolongs careers by temporarily delaying strength loss that would come with age. I think it would also have a big psychological effect. Not only are they stronger, but they are more confident. I'd imagine there would be a huge doubt in his mind. Did my natural ability build this career or did the chemicals? Can I perform at the same level on natural ability alone? He stops juicing this winter...gets off to a slow start and immediately thinks it's because he stopped. Continues to lose confidence, shoots up, has a decent game, confidence starts going the other way. I'm convinced that Giambi started up again as well. He looked pretty skinny coming in to the season and was hitting for zero power. July hits and he is unstoppable and IMO looks big again. Maybe I'm dreaming things up. I agree with your psychological effect assessment. However, I am not ready to blame someone just because they "look bigger." I am not going down in that cess pool as Wilbon told Mariotti (what a great exchange by Wilbon by the way). I put on 15 pounds of muscle in 2 months of hard working out and protein shakes one summer, and I am not a professional grade athlete. So I am sure they could do it natuarally as well.
  15. Did you just now start watching games this season? This crap has been going on all year. I am numb at this point.
  16. The confidentiality agreement accomplishes nothing but allowing players to lie about "accidental" ingestion via nutrional supplements. I see no reason why details of violations shouldn't be made public. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/02/AR2005080202101.html Except in Palmeiro's case where we know that the drug he took is not contained in ANY "nutritional supplements." He is a liar, always has been always will be.

  18. You might want to drive to Philly instead. Or he could drive to O Hare and fly to Philly. Yea that's what I meant.
  19. 91 in honor of Dennis Rodman..... hey it worked for Ron Artest.
  20. If Hollandsworth and his 0-12 starts against the Flotilla I am going to drive 9 hours to Chicago to slap Dusty in the face. He is not due, he is just a horrible everyday player.
  21. See the Bruce Miles thread in Baseball Discussions.
  22. Remlinger DFAed? Really. Dusty seems to like him a lot. Although that Grand Slam yesterday didn't help his cause. I think it needs to happen. He is not getting the job done and Dusty doesn't know how to use him.
  23. Conversely, this could have the reverse effect. People could see that someone like Palmeiro was caught and say well if they caught him but haven't caught some of these lesser name sluggers they must be clean or at least a little less guilty. But who knows. One thing is certain with anything steroids is that it will be made a bigger deal than it is.
  24. No, I don't tink so. I am pretty sure it has prevented trades in the past.
