  1. So is the amazing Adam Everett out of a job at Short or is Tejada moving to 3b?
  2. I felt the same way. I'm no scout, and I can't look at a guy and dissect the swing properly. But it appears long to me. Although he also seems to be able to keep his hands back. It's a little sweepy for me but it depends on his hand speed if he can get away with it. I'm very curious on how he'll handle off speed stuff...especially away. Better than Jacque :P ... and for the price hopefully a lot better.
  3. Beause that makes sense. Just because he's Japanese doesn't mean he'd be more comfortable around any other Japanese player. There are plenty of white guys that I despise and wouldn't want to be on a baseball team with.
  4. ! Hey, Paul Sullivan just did a good job of summing up everything we've known for two days! Sullivan's Article Sullivan is an idiot but: *Devil's advocate* He was probably told by his editor to write something on Fukudome and had nothing new, so he wrote on exactly what we've known. *Devil's advocate* I thought about that, too. It's a distinct possibility. Because of the timing of when the article came out it's probably just the article that will appear in the paper in the morning and the Trib didn't want to be the only paper without something about Fukudome in it. Still, though...I want new info :( Go study!
  5. We've asked people not to do this anymore. ever, or just in this thread? Ever. there'll just be a new one, like this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=1agzp_PM-Z4 It is not RICK ROLL. It's a song though. Holy hell. That's the best thing I've seen in a while. I think it should be this one... especially for new acquisitions. http://youtube.com/watch?v=_yJ_86fqX5k
  6. A thread on DeRo being on the radio gets turned into an argument on the desirability of getting Khalil Greene how?
  7. And he thought there was pressure playing for the Cubs... wait till he plays there.
  8. Why would Baltimore do that?? Unless you are talking about some fine prospects and a lot of money.
  9. He sure hit the Garland prediction right on the head.
  10. He won't serve a day. You're probably right. But, I'm just pointing out the insanity of lying about whether you stuck yourself with a needle having a longer prison term than going next door and sawing your neighbor into itty bitty pieces. Well its not that straightforward. You are comparing the max sentences for 5 separate counts that have been added together as if they were going to be served consecutively to one count served on its own. And FWIW, down here in god's country if you sawed anyone in any size pieces, the only sentence choice would be life or the chair. And I'll go out on a limb and predict that if he is convicted on any or even all of the counts that he would get sentenced to nowhere near 30 years, but will likely see some time. After all, it didn't hurt that court's feelings to let Greg Anderson sit in jail for extended visits while refusing to testify.
  11. At least his career is going to end one or two years early so ARod can break all his records a couple months early.
  12. Agreed. He's so fun to throw in Cards fans' faces.
  13. Man Hosak sure it hell-bent on getting the word out on trying to trade a package including Lee for Loney and Kemp, huh? Not only does it have its own thread but i think its mentioned in most of the new threads as well.
  14. This is 5-10 million higher than what was originally report, isn't it? If so, can we really trust Sullivan that the payroll will be above the $115 million range I thought was previously reported?
  15. Sell me on it. I'm open to being swayed. Frees up Marshall to be traded with Murton for real OF/SS. We have righty bullpen depth (expecially if we resign Woody). Or, if Prior comes back and is useful. It kicks Marquis out of the rotation. Demp > Marquis you know. The hit to our bullpen would be minimal. It'd help our rotation. He's no less valuable as a starter than Marshall, but Marshall has a lot more trade value. Thus trade him on the market. Ahhhhh. I fully agree on him being easily replaced in the pen. I like Marquis not being in the rotation. I believe you've changed my mind. What do we do with Marquis? For someone with what appears to be so advanced statistical abilities how on earth can Meph say Demp to the rotation is a good idea. LOOK AT THE DARN STATS! Or better yet, do you Demp for starter people not remember the beginning of 03 before he went to the pen? This is so mindbogglingly frustrating that anyone would think its a good idea. ](*,)
  16. The writer is an idiot, he couldnt have put any significant thought into that statement. Move along... nothing to see here folks.
  17. Games 3 & 4 sold out now.
  18. Nice of you to show your maturity by using a demeaning nickname for a player that didn't have a bad year. I think people need to re-read his post and notice that he was suggestion that Glendon Rusch would be a better option. Glendon Rusch. Seriously. He said it. Yes. He did. So that automatically means he was being serious. Absolutely no other option. I mean, he said his name. Please tell me you didn't miss the sarcasm in his post. Actually, tell me you did. So I can laugh at you. That's a whole boat load of sass from the new guy.
  19. Rationale for this speculation? And what do people think Fukudome's numbers will translate to over here?
  20. That's a lot of hits in 90 minutes. But does anyone know how that compares to what the Cubs normally see when tickets for the season first go on sale... what about this years NLDS?
  21. That's where I'm placing the blame. Don't do this sort of thing if you aren't prepared for the demand. Rockies fans, Red Sox fans, Joe Schmoes, and Scalpers all would love World Series Tickets... you have to account for that or just do a lottery. I wonder what they are going to do with them? Just whomever is patient enough to keep trying when the server does come back up gets them?
  22. See my thread below... same problem here.
  23. I thought about trying to pick some up, but I think their server is already down. 5 minutes before they are even scheduled to go on sale. Pitiful. Anyone know anything about this ticket situation?
  24. I don't want to get rid of DeRosa, I think they should consider trading him if somebody gives up value. He's basically an average hitter (probably will be right around 100 OPS+). He's going to get paid $4.75 and $5.5m the next two years. Not overpaid, but not cheap either. He will be 33 and 34 the next two years. I believe it would be possible to get similar production at 2B by using a platoon of Theriot and Fontenot. DeRosa was a nice player this year. He took a small step back from his career year last season, and will probably continue to do that the rest of the way, but he's definitely somebody they can win with. Anyway, back to the money. You clear away Jones, DeRosa and Dempster, and you've cleared $15m in payroll for 2008 (plus $5.5m for 2009). And each one of those guys is tradable. Jones bounced back, hit for average late in the year (despite a horrible season), has a decent reputation, played CF and RF, and has only 1 year left on the deal. DeRosa was a nice all around player who can fill a middle infield spot and contribute to a team in need of offense. Dempster has the "closer" label and he's "been there". He hasn't been that good, but overall, as a reliever, he's been pretty solid. I would rather take my chances that Abreu would give me significantly above average production in RF (115-125 OPS+) and the other spots would get filled, than keep spending $5m on replacable guys. I don't see 2-3 years as getting in the way as much as 2008 payroll specifically. You missed a "greater than symbol." We're not getting Abreu so there's no sense in trying to force you and other's with this thought process to understand the reality of the situation.
