  1. I don't even think Hendry looks at stats. When I haerd Hendry on the radio, everything he said about Kendall was about as much as anyone could talk him up. "Grit" and "winner" and a bunch of career statistics. Addressed pretty much everything but his terrible season at the plate.
  2. With the season he's having, I'd much prefer to see him start out at the bottom of the order and work his way up to the second spot.
  3. Me, too. Look at the job the team has done with Marquis. I trust the Cubs with reclamation projects. Hey it worked for the first few months, didn't it? Jason Marquis' ERA is only 9 points higher than Matsuzaka's. And we didn't pay $100 million for him. Our scouts are good. Two curves heading in opposite directions have to converge somewhere.
  4. Marshall has struggled a bit lately. Hopefully this Giant offense does for him what it did for Hill.
  5. I only listened to the game, so I didn't get to see any of his pitches, but from the sounds of things he was definitely sharper, early on especially. It also didn't hurt him that he got to pitch against the Giants.
  6. I keep expecting the Cubs to come back down to earth sometime soon and to start losing games like this just a little more often. It never happens. This team is really putting something together.
  7. Ron Santo with another heart attack. I'm getting sick of ARam and all his stat-padding worthless hits.
  8. If going 0-for-whatever for however long he did kept him around this long, his HR just reserved his seat thru the end of the season.
  9. Because everyone in the media is dumb. Kendall has 292 ABs this year and is OPSing .542. His on-base is lower than Jacque Jones's. Did I mention he's on a $13M deal this year? Don't the Pirates pay most of that? Soccer already pointed out that the Cubs are on the hook for approximately $3.5 of his contract, and that's before considering however much cash the A's will be sending with him.
  10. We already traded for the catcher version of Izturis, so why not?!
  11. Because everyone in the media is dumb. Kendall has 292 ABs this year and is OPSing .542. His on-base is lower than Jacque Jones's. Did I mention he's on a $13M deal this year? Cubs will be paying less than $4M though. Pirates on the hook for $5.5M which leaves 7.5M. Less than half the year is left so the Cubs are up for around $3.5M. Plus, Oakland is sending cash in the deal. We still don't know how much, but this is a good point. At least we aren't paying him anywhere near the full amount of his salary.
  12. He's had a decent to great OBP every year since 2001. He's been horrible this year which worries me, but otherwise what's to hate about him. Because his OPS is lower than ARam's SLG this year. He's publicly said he doesn't try to hit for power, so for several years he's been pretty much a guarantee of a sub .700 OPS. His body is broken down from catching all these years and previous injuries, and there's nothing to get excited about defensively. This is exactly like the Cesar Izturis trade, exactly. We didn't exactly give up Greg Maddux, but the return is quite comparable, I agree.
  13. Lincecum starts the inning with 97 pitches, Giants bullpen is active.
  14. The media likes to use terms like 'clutch' and discuss Kendall's career numbers, whereas everyone here is concerned about how he's likely to perform when he gets here.
  15. Hendry on the radio talking about it now. "Gamer and winner" are the first two words he used to describe him, then went on to cite career numbers. Can we please get a GM who can recognize when someone is over the hill and when their career numbers are worth paying attention to?
  16. I thought the goal was to CUT DOWN on worthless catchers. Getting rid of Bowen was such a promising start. @!$%@$%^!
  17. I was just about to ask if anyone has his current PC. Anyone?
  18. This was the first thing I noticed about Hill today. I really like when he's not giving up HRs and gappers all day. This is way better.
  19. Pat just quoted some numbers from a start of his not too long ago against AZ - 7IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 12K. Apparently he at least has the potential to be a stud. His starts seem to either be really good or really bad. When his control is on look out. If it's off, he can be really wild and a patient team will take advantage like Milwaukee did a few weeks back. So what you're saying is, either way the Cubs are screwed.

  21. Argh, hopefully this doesn't turn into an offensive futility contest.
