Selfish jerk. Haha. 8-) One of the greatest shows ever. It was the first time a band like Metallica played on the arena circuit. Most people came for Ozzy. The look on people's faces was precious. I think Metallica gained like 15,000 fans that night. And yes, Cliff played "Pulling Teeth" It's easily one of my most cherished concert memories. I've seen videos of what Bellz turned into when he played it live - between that and his charming lack of rhythm with anesthesia, I can only imagine how awesome it would have been. On year and a half in the life of metallica (or maybe it was their episode of behind the music, i forget), Ozzy was saying how metallica was giving him a run for his money on every single show. It's so amazing to consider the fact that, by the mid-80's, they had a platinum record, as well as one of the widely circulated/bootlegged demos ever, all without having seen a single second of radio time anywhere, and even challenged Ozzy, who had already achieved god status by then, for every crowd they shared. Even though they haven't had a half-assed original album release in ten years, and I barely listen to anything at all by them, they're still my favorite. Probably the same attitude most Cubs fans in the 50s had.* * Baseball-related comment!!

Massive QFT. He's easily my least favorite part about this series.

The entire albums of Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. Specifically, Fade to Black Orion Sanitarium Battery Damage, Inc. Master of Puppets Ride the Lightning For Whom the Bell Tolls Creeping Death Leper Messiah When the people who always reminisce about "old school Metallica," those two CDs are what they're talking about. Kill 'em All is good too, but it has a lot more of a raw sound. Phantom Lord, Four Horsemen, No Remorse, Anesthesia are the ones to check out from that one, IMO. (Should we feel guilty for threadjacking yet?)

Cliff Burton (RIP) + best Metallica song (For whom the bells toll) = Burtonbell I also use it for Burton C Bell from Fear Factory, one of my fav bands back in the day. For Whom the Bell Tolls is my favorite Metallica song also. I just get chills from the first 2 minutes of the song. That would be an awesome song to have as your "entrance music" (relief pitcher, UFC Fighter, et. al. Sadly, Metallica would likely not allow it.) I'm surprised you guys both say it's your favorite. Definitely not a bad song, but it probably wouldn't make my top 15 by them. Also, I don't think playing clips from the song for a brief period at the start of an AB violates copyright rules, so not even Metallica could shoot it down. Sort of like how we're allowed to post quotes from linked articles here, but can't post the whole thing. I can't recall specific instances in the majors, but I know there were several players from Oakland's AAA team that used clips from songs off Puppets, and they aren't far at all from Metallica's hometown of San Fran.

Agreed. I don't want to see the Red Sox win it, but that's a half-hearted preference. It's nice knowing that, this year, we won't want to drive off a cliff no matter who takes it. However, with the recent youtubery, I'm rooting a little harder for the Rockies, just for fear of Papelbon getting naked on the field in post-game celebration and jumping on top of Josh Beckett. Also, props to Aramis fan for the reference to the big lead-blowing comeback victory. It's nice to remember that being a Cubs fan was actually fun for a while this year, starting pretty much with that game. (Though sweeping the White sox the three days prior was nice too.)

I went with the Rockies taking their winning streak into the off-season. Not a chance they'll pull it off, but that's what I'm rooting for.

I'm giving up. This is crap. My roadtrip will be a lot easier if I don't have to make Denver by Saturday. Good job, Rockies.

That's where I'm placing the blame. Don't do this sort of thing if you aren't prepared for the demand. Rockies fans, Red Sox fans, Joe Schmoes, and Scalpers all would love World Series Tickets... you have to account for that or just do a lottery. I wonder what they are going to do with them? Just whomever is patient enough to keep trying when the server does come back up gets them? Yea, I'm not sure what will happen either, but I hope the servers either come back up soon or they try again tomorrow, actually being prepared by then. I was kind of disappointed that they weren't going to be doing any lotteries at local locations like they originially wanted to. I have a friend in the area trying to get tickets too, and his chances probably would have been much better if there were a way to get them in person.

Or we could be blaming the website for not being anywhere close to prepared to handle the demand. My firefox page keeps loading the VWR with a countdown clock frozen at 1 now.

Yea, this is pretty pathetic. I opened my windows around an hour ago, and they both froze at the end of the countdown about ten minutes ago. Did you hear about some government workers in the Denver area who were trying to pool financial resources and use some high-powered gov computer to buy tix? They wouldn't let them use the gov systems, and I can't imagine it working anyway, but it was pretty obvious the demand for these tickets would be thru the roof, especially with the Red Sox now being the road team.

Is anyone trying to buy Rockies tickets for the WS right now? I can't get my VWR to load anymore, and it looks like the site may have crashed. Anyone else having this problem?

In Chicago, I miss our 103.5 :cry: They actualy played Mandatory Metallica, and guess what, there were ablums released before the Black album! I used to look forward to 10:00pm and just jam for a half hour. Nobody in Chicago plays old Metallica now. It sucks. (Doesn't help their newest material for the past 10 years has sucked, but oh well) I remember for a while back when they did that. When the load tour came through Chicago was around the beginning of when they would regularly play stuff from the first three albums, plus some of the covers from Garage Inc disc two, but before it was all compiled in Garage Inc. It was some of the most solid music selection I've ever heard on any radio station. I always wondered if your screenname was a Metallica reference. After reading this, I'm pretty sure it is.

Then he should be tied to the track and run over by the train that comes back to the present.Meanwhile, I'll just skip ahead to 2015, when the Cubs finally win the WS. The other big lesson I want to see the Cubs learn out of all this is that the Rockies, with the possible exception of Helton, didn't have a single player on their roster who was bursting at the seems with experience or who was a "proven winner." With the success of the 03 Marlins and this year's Rockies and Indians (maybe last year's Tigers, though I wouldn't really know), I hope more teams realize that rationalizing acquisitions by using such bullcrap cliches is worthless.

If nothing else, we know that baseball will be entertaining all season long next year, regardless of how the Cubs do.

Same here. Definitely not pulling too hard for the Sox, but none of the three remaining taking this would bother me at all. Good for the Rox. I was really feeling bad for them by the time they got done getting swept out of Chicago. They went on to blow some pretty painful games after that. This has been a fun run to watch. This is the first time since the total apathy of '02 that the World Series winner will not be completely unbearable.

Dude just said 9 outs to go. I don't think i can take this anymore. I'm gonna shut it off and go to bed hoping for half the WS teams to be decided by morning. Go Rox!

Rox radio announcers just made the first countdown... 13 outs from the world series!! I know it doesn't matter since they're not the Cubs, but hearing that just makes my skin crawl.

I will spend a couple weeks on the Rockies bandwagon. This team is unreal.

Morales just dropped in a curve ball for strike one at 59 mph, followed by strike two at 94. Unreal.

I wouldn't mind seeing the rockies not lose again. They've been a lot of fun to watch, and at least their fans have actually bothered to hop on the bandwagon. It's almost as easy to root for them as it is to root against the DBags.
