  1. very skeptical...but still hopeful... I've been pretty pessimistic this whole break, just because it's against the west. But over the last couple hours, it's blown up into all-out optimism, and it's scaring the crap out of me. PLEASE win, idiots!!
  2. Is it the same one they've been running since their last home game with the Silverchair song? If it's a new one, someone better youtube the hell outta that mother.
  3. "Victory" by Bad Religion just came up on my playlist, and now I'm even more pumped for this game to start. :willynilly: :willynilly: :willynilly: :willynilly: :willynilly: :willynilly: :willynilly: :willynilly:
  4. I like this lineup better. "Jacque just loves that number two hole." ~Ron Santo
  5. I just posted my hatred for him in the Sox-angels game thread. I like the Red Sox and would normally be rooting for them, but Beckett alone makes me want them to lose this game and series.
  6. Looks like Beckett is in his old post-season form. I'm going to go on the record and declare my pure, unadultered hatred for him. I hope the Angels come back to win this series, if not this game too, just because of Beckett. I like the Red Sox and all, but not until they've lost a playoff series.
  7. The last game he pitched at Wrigley against Pittsburgh (when the Cubs won 8-0 and all the fans were doing the tomahawk chop) was his single most impressive first inning, probably of his career. I think he had more adrenaline pumping that day than any time in the last three months, so hopefully that's a sign of things to come and not just an anomoly.
  8. I've gotten several phone calls this afternoon/evening. All my family and friends know to leave me tf alone once first pitch rolls around. As for all this bullcrap about 89... [farley]Do you guys uhhh, remember that one time (gulp) in 2003? When the Cubs were playing the Braves? (gulp) and won that series? That was awesome.[/farley]
  9. Two more effing hours. How is this even possible? I could swear this morning was 4 days ago.
  10. That's good to know. I know the Sox are not strangers to long baseball games this season, so hopefully this pace holds up.
  11. Low ball pitcher who requires a lot of patience. I'm predicting Soriano and DeRo have a good night. There's going out on a limb if I've ever seen it. Here's hoping you're right!
  12. This is definitely a lineup Z should be handling. I'm hoping for an outing along the lines of that last one he had against Pittsburgh. Work quick, go hard at the jugular, beat them into submission. He has given us reason for optimism in rehard to his ability to control his emotions. I think we'll see that tonight.
  13. I've heard talk that TNT would get the start of the game until the Sox are done, and if that happens, I'll be screwed into missing the Cubs. I'll be at a bar which I'm sure won't change away from the game, even if the Sox are up by 12 by then. Where are you located? I'm sure there will be multiple tv's if you're in a bar...ask nicely...if you're in the midwest...you shouldn't have to ask at all. I live in a very touristy spot on the central Cali coastline, about 2 hours south of San Francisco. I showed up for a Cubs game that I knew would be on WGN on a weeknight in August, and it took 15 minutes for me to finally get one of the 12 TVs to change from a Red Sox game that no one seemed to be paying attention to, yet it was still really crowded. I'll be fighting uphill, I'm sure. The only Cubs fans around here are military, and most military don't come out to this bar.

  15. I don't know, but I hope like hell there is some vintage Santo for what turns out to be an epic playoff run. That would be icing on the cake.
  16. Yeah, that's the one that was in the paper this morning. I like this better, with Ramirez 4th and the LRLR alternation starting after.
  17. Augie with Cubs: 316 AB's, .196/.270/.275 Augie on another team: 172 AB's, .297/.386/.390 Now I know both of those are too small of sample sizes, but I honestly never thought that Augie could ever have that kind of production in any 172 at-bat sample. I can't believe he's back in the major leagues, I can't believe he was one of the Diamondbacks top pinch hitters for a while earlier in the season, and I really can't believe how he's the starting second baseman for a playoff team and somehow isn't a major hole there. I honestly have no idea how he has done it. More like Augie Oroida. Augie is within 12 points of the top BA in the DBacks' starting lineup. Think about that. I suddenly just got a much better understanding of some of the optimism floating around about this game.
  18. Class is almost over. I'm getting restless. Hurry up and playball!
  19. Bullcrap, Homer, and cheese respectively.
  20. NSBB was around back then but the game threads were in Baseball Discussions back then. Those Karros v Choi and Estes v Cruz debates were fun. :D By the way, do you or anyone know the record for the longest game thread in NSBB history? This, or another this postseason, may surpass it. Don't know what the record is but some of the game threads in 2004 were around 100 non-Premium pages so the recent ones this season might have topped them. I actually went back and looked at this recently, and the last two Marlins game threads from last week rank 2nd and 3rd among threads that haven't been archived and removed. The only thread longer than those two was the Pie debut game when he doubled and threw out a runner going for third. I have no doubt that these playoff games will beat those. Though I know that the only game thread I'll post in during the actual game in the NLDS is if it makes it to game 5.
  21. It's only one game. Another way to look at it is, it's the 15th of 16. Or another way to look at it is they are 1-0. Regular season is meaningless right now. The Rockies suddenly being world-beaters means quite a bit though.
  22. It's only one game. Another way to look at it is, it's the 15th of 16.
  23. It's so strange to see a game thread with people actually split on who they want to win. It's nice not having to root against Milwaukee anymore.
  24. Flash Gordon and LaTroy Hawkins pitch two halves of the same inning of a playoff game. Does that sound wrong to anyone else?
  25. I think it's safe to say that Bartman is self-aware enough to stay out of the limelight until the drought is completely over. Personally, I really hope the guy becomes a non-story as soon as possible, for his sake. I also hope that if he were really invited to sing, that he would turn it down simply so the media doesn't have another reason to mention him. The first game of the playoffs hasn't even started, and no national media outlet can go two sentences covering the Cubs without saying Bartman.
