  1. I was stunned. Played it back like 3 times to make sure I wasn't missing something. Earlier in the day I heard Phil Simms complain about the NFL's pass interference rule being such a huge play because teams can throw it up and get a 50 yard penalty. Yet he also said he doesn't like the NCAA's rule because then teams can just tackle guys on a long pass and it's only 15 yards. Gumble asked if something in the middle would be better and he wasn't sure about that either. Okay.
  2. i think it's asu. Might be, I hope not. He actually called Iowa's Scout.com guy back to tell them that he didn't just cancel it, they pulled his offer. A lot more honesty than you get with most recruits. Sounds like they're confident they'll land Randle.
  3. Randy Cross and whoever his PBP guy was just had the biggest WTF moment of the season in the Raiders/Cards game. The Raiders are down 24-23 with 1:15 left, on their own 35 and have only 1 timeout left. It's 4th down. PBP guy: "Oakland has 1 timeout left so Cable rolling the dice from the 36." After they convert Cross: "Another big risk. (pauses, realizing the situation). I tend to get a little more conservative and rely on my defense in those circumstances. (laughs awkwardly). Play the odds, I know the clock would have run out I just don't like the chances but that's just me." WHAT?
  4. Yeah what the hell? Iowa goes two time zones west and loses to a top 20 team by a touchdown, Texas gets trounced by a bad team at home. So naturally Texas is in front of them. I also like Miami jumping Iowa while they were on a bye and Iowa beat a bad team 45-0. Miami trounced Pitt at Pitt on Thursday. Ah, of course. I read Jon Miller's tweet complaining about it right before I posted that and completely forgot that I watched that game.
  5. Apparently Josh Oglesby canceled his upcoming visit to Illinois so it's down to Iowa, Minnesota and Arizona State. I would think it's Iowa and Minnesota but don't like the timing of him canceling the Illinois visit while being at ASU.
  6. Hopefully they can rally. I want Brewster and Zook to stay in charge as long as possible.

  8. sneakypower, what happened to Best? Adrian is playing the best football of his life this year and it doesn't show because our o-line is awful. He's gotta be getting hit at or behind the line on like 60% of his carries. Only negative today from him was the dropped pass on the first drive where he probably could have had 30+ yards. The defense has been a reverse of last year. The secondary has been solid but the front four is getting no pressure. Allen has been invisible. Overall they've been playing really well even though today was the Lions at home. Sidney Rice needs to get some kind of injection/transplant/transfusion to get back in week 7. I have no idea how we're going to throw on the Jets with this group of WR's.
  9. If you take college sports out of the equation the city of Cleveland (I don't know, maybe Cleveland State will suck at basketball and we can include them too) they have had a crappy year thus far that can almost be comparable. The Indians have been horrible along with the Browns and the Cavs lost one of the best NBA players of all time. Not even close. The Browns and Indians were expected to be last place teams. The Mariners and Seahawks were coming off good seasons and expected to contend. Losing LeBron is enormous but losing your entire [expletive] franchise is on another level. Plus you can't just take out college sports. Many Cleveland residents are Ohio State fans. It's not that rare for a city's teams to all suck in a year. But to lose a franchise after landing a franchise-changing player, lose the only guy who ever made your football team relevant, have the two worst major college football teams in the country and have your baseball and football teams take an enormous step back and fall incredibly short of expectations is another level.
  10. That 2008 year in the state of Washington has fascinated me since the time it happened. UW/Wazzu went 1-22 against FBS opponents. Of course the only win was WSU beating UW and of course it went to overtime. In that same year the Mariners went 61-101 despite being a trendy pick to contend after winning 88 the previous year. The Seahawks went from a Super Bowl appearance in '06, division title in '07 to a 4-12 season in '08. And Mike Holmgren left to open the door for the Jim Mora Jr. era. The topper of it all, you won Kevin Durant in the lottery. You saw him win the rookie of the year and had an idea of how lucky you were going to be, even though your team went 20-62. They then took him and your entire franchise to Oklahoma [expletive] City and left you with nothing. No city or state will ever top that year. Ever.
  11. What the hell happened to them? When Rocky Long was there they seemed to typically be like a 7-5 team that would play in a lower tier bowl almost every year. Then he had one bad year, said he couldn't take them to the next level and they've completely gone in the toilet in like 2 years.
  12. Herbstreit has repeatedly said that this is a "contract" year for Murray. That only happens when you've been around for 7 or 8 years.
  13. Remember when the college football threads used to be like 23 pages?
  14. ok? they have a qb who arrived on campus like a month ago. temple went 9-4 last year and psu outgained them by more than 2:1 and would have won by a bunch if they hadn't settled for 35 field goals. they may go 4-4 in conference but that would have more to do with the conference being pretty good and deep this year rather than psu being "pathetic" I have to admit that I am confident about a freshman QB coming into Kinnick during a night game. Penn State is going to have issues scoring on Iowa you would think. On the flip side I feel confident about an Iowa game and that makes me nervous. Yeah next week is as confident as I've been about a PSU game since they had that stretch where they sucked. Then again, sooner or later Ferentz' domination over them is going to end and they're going to win one you don't expect them to.
  15. Only saw the second half of it but I'm wondering why Alabama ever attempts a forward pass. Not sure if it's decision making or love of referring to himself in the third person but I'm starting to get a Ryan Leaf vibe from Mallett.
  16. I liked the little bit I saw of Joe Webb at UAB, but I'm not sure if he's got the arm upside to be a significantly above average NFL QB. They originally drafted him as a WR but once he got into mini-camps and OTA's and they saw him throw and read defenses they quickly decided to keep him at QB. He's got a huge arm and is a total freak athlete. A handful of players have said he's the best athlete on the team and he showed that in the preseason. He's huge with big hands, ran an electronic 4.4 and has something like a 43" vert which is why he looked like a nice raw, WR prospect. But there are a lot of really good athletes who have big arms. That's what Tarvaris is/was. Accuracy and decision making are the most important traits for an NFL QB and you really have no idea yet with a guy like Webb. The coaches were impressed with how he handles himself and how quickly he picked up the offense. I'm not holding out hope for him to be anything more than a #2 but it would be really awesome to strike gold on a pick like that and get a guy who can at least be serviceable as a spot starter.
  17. This stuck out to me. You think the Vikings don't know what they have with Tavaris? The reason they paid so handsomly for Favre is because they know full well what they have with Tavaris. yeah, they don't want tavaris. regardless of if they make the playoffs or not, i think they'll be trading up to get either luck or locker. Unless this season ends up a total mess, I don't think they'll be able to trade up for Luck because I think he'll be top 5. Locker is the kind of guy Childress would go after. He loves raw projects that he thinks he can mold. I wouldn't be surprised if they think Joe Webb (6th round pick this year from UAB) can be the starter in 2 years. They were hell bent on keeping him and willing to trade Sage so Webb could be the 3rd QB. Childress still seems high on Tarvaris and never gave Rosenfels a real chance at the backup job because of that. He's a free agent after this year and probably wants to get out as soon as he can though I doubt he'll find many opportunities even to be a guaranteed #2. I'm holding out faint hope that Vick lights it up in Philly and Kolb becomes disgruntled enough that they feel like trading him.
  18. Why the [expletive] is ESPN's bottom scroll telling me about that idiot Jets fan pushing somebody?
  19. Thank God. A.J. Smith is a stubborn fool. Reminds me of Carl Peterson.
  20. Didn't see it posted but Jewel Hampton tore his other ACL on Saturday and is out for the year again. Iowa is now down to Robinson and then just a pair of freshman who were planning to redshirt. Sounds like Marcus Coker will be the guy.
  21. I'd be good with the Eagles signing Vick long-term and making Kolb available for trade in the offseason.
  22. Andrew Luck and Nick Foles are going to make a couple NFL teams extremely happy this time next year or this time in 2012. I'm in love with them as prospects. Foles was really impressive last week. He had a couple of big throws that he had to squeeze in on the money and it seemed like he did it every time.
  23. Outplayed them...except for all the mistakes that the 49ers made that you just mentioned, right? Bush muffed a punt also. There's nothing but luck that decided the bounces and gave the Saints both recoveries. Same to be said for the tipped ball at the line of scrimmage that went directly to the Saints for an INT while the 49ers tipped at least 2-3 balls at the line of scrimmage but neither went to a DB. Regardless they're going to have a great start because they have like 2 tough games in the next 6 weeks or so.
  24. I don't want to bother reading, care to summarize? Basically, "I may be the only one in Chicago who hasn't posed next to the Stanley Cup. I have had the opportunity but I am too professional unlike some of my colleagues. Since so many people have had their picture taken by it, it's almost cooler to not have your picture with it. It's impressive that I have showed some reserve and not been giddy over the sight of the Cup."
  25. Yeah sorry I can't get on board with that. Imagine the debates Meph and TT would have about early season rankings.
